Just found out today that Bert I. Gordon passed away last month, died from complications following a fall in his home. He seemed like such a nice guy from the interviews I've seen with him, it's a real shame. Man was a legend, working in the film industry from the 1950's to the 2010's. Rest in peace Mr. B.I.G. us cult movie fans will never forget you.

The "deeply incompetent rustic couple" is actually from the book: the scientist who invented the FOTG hires them to test it out on chickens (hardly being able to fit them in his apartment) and is too unworldly to realize that they're a couple of screwups.
@michaelccozens
@michaelccozens 2 жыл бұрын
Uh, I'm gonna say it's kinda on the scientist for hiring two backwoods dirt-farmers and just assuming they can safely handle what amounts to a biological weapon (also, he was testing this shit in his apartment, ie. a building full of innocent people?). "Unworldly" seems like a... generous description, at the least; I think he may have slept through his lab-safety courses.

Fun fact: If you watch this while tripping it's a hilarious comedy. I saw it on TV sometime around 1990-1991 and it still stands as the worst film I've ever watched from start to finish, but my friends and I couldn't walk away from the TV. As you note, the pacing was actually pretty good. There are so many things to ridicule in this film that watching it was great fun. Your comparison to MacGyver is accurate. It was the source of many laughs. If I recall correctly, he drives his Jeep back and forth throughout the film, yet never had to refill the gas tank. He even had enough extra gas to use some for making explosives when he donned his "demolitions expert" hat. I still smile whenever somebody brings it up :)

Cybermat47 in: Animaniacs Wiki Chicken Boo Chicken Boo is a giant chicken who has a habit of disguising himself as a human. No matter the profession Boo has chosen, he typically excels at it. One person in each cartoon claims he's really a giant chicken which is dismissed by the other characters in the cartoon. After Boo's disguise inevitably fails, the person from earlier returns to say "I told you that guy was a chicken!" and Boo is typically shunned or even attacked by those who were praising him just minutes before.

H.G. Wells and Rick Baker doing the close up effects? I was so hyped to see this. I went to see this movie as a kid, 10 years old, and a 16-18 year old guy at the same show threatened to rape me. Ooh, yeah, he gave me a detailed description of what he was going to do to me. And he even had the courtesy to explain that, while it would hurt at first, I'd end up liking it. I have memories of terror of this movie and nothing to do with the movie When he first sat beside me, he started chatting about horror movies and he seemed to know all the stuff (like Famous Monsters magazine knowledgeable) and I was, "wow, a person who is almost an adult likes horror movies, like me. He's talking to me because I am obviously pretty cool for a kid". It wasn't too far in when the conversation began to switch and, well, i was too scared to run. I threatened to tell the manager but he threatened to drag me out the exit of the theatre and beat the shit out of me and rape me there. I wish I could recall but I just remember being in the seat and then out of the theatre, ducking down alleys, crossing lawns, heading home and evading as fast as I could I have never seen to the ending because I had to leave before the movie ended Was it irresponsible of my mother to let me go see this? No, she did not know. And I certainly could not tell her what happened because a) I would get in trouble for going to see that kind of movie and then b) punished for getting in that danger. It was the 70s, that was life. If you got hurt doing something, even if not your fault, you'd be punished. I got in a fight once and by "got in a fight" I was attacked and fought back. I could've broken my glasses so I was punished for that. God help you if you needed medical care - that's coming out of your allowance! And no dinner!
