One of the many things I love about this film is how it gives the minor characters brief hints of individuality, like the coroner with sandwiches, the switchboard operator constantly on the line with her mother, the woman whose daughter wants the freedom to grow up, the Mexican kid with his coloured pens, the archivist with his Proposition to expand the site.... I also love how the film's protagonists actually make sensible decisions: they close the beaches, patrol the area, set up a plan to monitor the canal system. When things go wrong, it's not because these people are idiots, but because they don't know obscure details of the local landscape.

For something similar, check out the lake dragon in the '60s sword n' sandal flicks "Medusa against the Son of Hercules", or the sea monster in "Hercules and the Princess of Troy"; both done by Carlo Rambaldi, who worked on 1976 "King Kong" and its sequel, "Alien", "E.T.", "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind", "Dune", "Conan the Destroyer" and Stephen King's "Cat's Eye" and "Silver Bullet" among others.

I will legitimately run away screaming if I see one. However, the creature in this movie doesn't really provoke that reaction from me. Interesting. I wondered about that as a kid.

When you think about it, it's actually really strange that we didn't see a lot of single moms in the '50s. Considering how a lot of husbands died in 1945, you would think they'd be a lot more single moms, right?

Also a lot of single moms as a result of the Korean War. One of the things I liked about Stephen King's IT was it acknowledged how many kids grew up in fatherless households (as did King himself, although his dad was just a bum).

from the thumbnail I get the feeling that Brandon was Gary's guardian angel showing him an alternate time wherein he was not Spongebob's pet so therefore became an undersea eldrich abomination

This is actually an interesting monster premise. Snails are surprisingly durable for their size. A giant one might be on the slow and dumb side, but it wouldn’t be easy to kill.

I used to love this film as a kid. Back in the 90s, Channel 4 in the UK used to show all sorts of amazing nonsense very late on a Friday night and I built up a very nice collection of cult VHS recordings, thank you very much.

Please tell me we'll get a review for Reptilicus. That would be amazing especially since the monster's a better puppet that the Giant Claw.

You obviously haven't seen the flying scenes that were edited out of the American version.
@RedRock22Productions5 жыл бұрын
@@KRhetor I actual have watched those scenes. I didn't think they were terrible. Better than the green spit effect.

@@RedRock22Productions I will admit they would have worked better without the slide whistle on the soundtrack.

Parachuting into an atomic testing area in the water is nothing compared to how, in reality, a bunch of soldiers used to go to the desert only a few kilometers away from actual nuclear bomb tests and watch them detonate. I'm not even kidding! Like, they almost treated it as if they were going to the movies!

Oh, and the second diver is played by Max Showalter, who you might recognize as one of the grandparents in Sixteen Candles. And Hans Conried! No enough featured him in roles... :(

I also remember him from an Incredible Hulk episode. He's also one of train singers at the beginning of The Music Man.
