After being accepted to the Hill Sports High School in Seven Hills, which has produced a host of international athletes including Kangaroos’ star Tim Brasher, Wallaby skipper Will Skelton, NSW Swift netballer Paige Hadley, Matildas Chloe Logarzo, and Kyah Simon; and while Starc had hoped to be part of the school’s soccer program, he found himself in their athletics program. In 2009 Starc was advised by the school’s athletics coordinator, Nicole Watson, to train outside of school hours with an emerging coach, Alex Stewart. Under Stewart’s guidance he enjoyed rapid progress. Indeed just 18 months after recording a PB of 188cm, 16-year-old Starc sealed the silver medal at the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympics after jumping 2.19m. It was there and then that Starc and Stewart decided to see how far he could go. #nswislightsup
