I also spotted him there and even shouted loudly for my husband that he had to come and have a look! I think he thought I was crazy because I asked at least 5 times, "So? Don't you know one of the singers?". And when he recognized Reginald Mobley, whom we both got to know through Brandon's videos, we sat together in front of the TV with a big grin on our faces!

Wonderful! The great delight of Brandon Acker's channel is that it widens one's musical horizons and introduces musical delights usually easily missed or overlooked following the more conventional musical pathways.

Glorious! As always, of course, dear Brandon, but as much as I enjoy solo content, every collaboration with Mr. Mobley is my new personal highlight of this channel! This may be due to my musical upbringing, in my youth I had singing lessons with a countertenor for a long time and with every video I think back to this time with joy. Although I more or less gave up music (violin, piano, singing) at the beginning of my university studies due to lack of time, the love for it remains! Especially the love for Renaissance and Baroque music, for which I used to be ridiculed in my circle of friends (it just wasn't so hip in the 80s), has remained with me, while the musical taste of my friends has partly adapted to the passage of time

@@brandonacker What makes your channel so great is not only the terrific quality of the performances, the insane work you put into it besides the recordings (e.g. the subtitling of vocal pieces), but also that you read the comments so conscientiously and comment so often, respond to questions asked, and thereby make everyone here feel involved and important to you ❤️

Have you heard of Tone-gards? They protect the back of instruments from resting against your body so the back can vibrate properly while standing up. They make them for mandolins and dreadnought acoustic guitars, but maybe they can make one for a classical guitar.
@brandonacker
@brandonacker Жыл бұрын
I have heard the idea but people have been holding guitars against their chest for at least 500 years. I dont see why we should fix something that isn't broke.
@TheGuitarsquatch
@TheGuitarsquatch Жыл бұрын
@@brandonacker More volume for live unamplified performances is a pretty valid reason. But I've seen you use contraptions that people haven't used until recent years, like the leg rest. Nylon strings instead of gut. Just because something has been done a certain way doesn't mean it can't be improved upon.
@brandonacker
@brandonacker Жыл бұрын
I hear you and understand the motivation for it. I'm just convinced that the volume difference is marginal at best and it's really not a problem that we need to be worrying about. If someone did an experiment to show that it increased the volume 5% or more, I'd be interested but my bet is that the difference would not be noticed by the audience. The back of the instrument is also more of a reflector for the sound. The soundboard is what needs to vibrate as freely as possible. Lastly, it's also a question of how much pressure is applied to the back. If while playing you firmly press the back of the instrument against your chest (I just tried), you will hear some dampening. However, if you let the instrument rest against your chest lightly without pushing into it, I hear no difference in the sound whatsoever.
@TheGuitarsquatch
@TheGuitarsquatch Жыл бұрын
@@brandonacker That makes sense. Personally I'm pretty "heavy armed" while standing so it would be a bit more viable for me. But, honestly the volume aspect is secondary since I don't play for audiences, it's a tonal issue. The back is doing a lot of the overtone lifting, and by "smothering" the back, it doesn't allow those overtones to come through and makes the tone shallow. It would help if I weren't such an overtone addict
