This may be my favorite interpretation of O Solitude yet, and I've listened to a lot of them. I sing it myself, so I'm very familiar with it. I love how he starts with just the pizzicato bass and builds up the continuo from there. I like to practice it myself with just a looped pizzicato bass. To me the song has the feel of a poetry reading, so the minimal accompaniment works well. I hear just a hint of jazz feeling in his singing, which I think fits the song as well.

I TOTALLY agree. There was a bit of a Pop element to his interpretation but honestly it just worked. It was fantastic.
@b.wiethaus5124 Жыл бұрын
And this hint of jazz feeling makes this interpretation a timeless and also modern piece of art❤.

You know you're an adult when you switch from thinking solitude as something negative to something positive. I do like people around me, but being alone is so much better. O sweet Solitude.

I discovered the works of Purcell almost 40 years ago and have been a devoted fan ever since. How ironic yet wonderful that music written over 300 years ago and performed on period instruments should sound so modern and so relevant. Love love love the vocal interpretation and colours. Masterful.

Is this piece of music really as difficult to sing as I imagine? I hear transitions in it that break my brain and at the same time they are delightful and magical. It's like changing shades of thought and mood that instantly change in music. As if in an instant the entire direction of movement of the body and soul changed. I'm shocked and obsessed.

The tone of your voice is truly like a baroque instrument….a perfect match to the that mellow organum (?). The tone is forward and resonant, without the ringing/squillo classical vocalists seem to aim for. If that makes any sense. Your voice is lovely on the ear!

O solitude, my sweetest choice! Places devoted to the night, Remote from tumult and from noise, How ye my restless thoughts delight! O solitude, my sweetest choice! O heav'ns! what content is mine To see these trees, which have appear'd From the nativity of time, And which all ages have rever'd, To look today as fresh and green As when their beauties first were seen. O, how agreeable a sight These hanging mountains do appear, Which th' unhappy would invite To finish all their sorrows here, When their hard fate makes them endure Such woes as only death can cure. O, how I solitude adore! That element of noblest wit, Where I have learnt Apollo's lore, Without the pains to study it. For thy sake I in love am grown With what thy fancy does pursue; But when I think upon my own, I hate it for that reason too, Because it needs must hinder me From seeing and from serving thee. O solitude, O how I solitude adore!

Mate, for most people masks aren't a big deal, and in general are great for keeping oneself and others safe. Plus, as those masked are playing instruments and not singing, they don't really have a need to Not be wearing a mask.

@@elisemiller13yes, in March of 2021, most people hadn’t yet gotten their vaccines even, and we were still dealing with early forms of COVID. The instrumentalists were doing the correct and logical thing to be masked at that time. Honestly, they were all keeping the SINGER healthy, since obviously he could not be masked. I don’t understand why people get their knickers in a twist about masks. Why can’t they understand that it’s about keeping EVERYONE safe? It’s just not that difficult! I didn’t even NOTICE the masks, till I read it here in the comments!

Seems pointless for the musicians to be wearing masks.
