I think one of the reasons I procrastinate is because I have a hard time deciding what I should be spending my time on. i try making goals and getting specific, but I second guess those decisions I make.

The best way to deal with this is to choose something to commit to -- even if you don't feel 100% about it. Give it a fair amount of time and then come back and evaluate. We get so anxious about committing our time to the wrong things, but the truth is that what you do with your commitments is more important. Give it everything you've got then come back later and evaluate. Even if you decide it's a path you don't want to continue, you will have learned something and you will have more confidence with the next commitment you take on. Figuring out what you don't want to do can sometimes be just as helpful as figuring out what you do want to do.

Hey Brandon, just want to say that your videos helped me a lot and shaped me not only into a better artist, but also into a better person. Your channel will be in my list of recommendations for anyone who's struggling with art till the end of my life.

What a Leg! "This is why I do what I do" godfather type shit. But yeah I can't stress it enough Brandon May god bless you and your family. Your work is immense, I just began therapy two months ago or so and my wife was the one that pushed me...I had to go when I was a kid...but you know you don't usually get that stuff as a kid. I respect that you talked about it...it's not easy for people to share therapy... procastination due to PTSD OR CPTSD...TRAUMA. THANKS @Brandon Dayton

Thanks for this! Yes, I often feel the fear of being a failure and that I won't be satisfied with the final result. But when I manage to sit down and draw/paint, it's always so rewarding, calming and in most cases, I'm satisfied with the end result. :) So it's pretty ironic and stupid for me to procrastinate.

Thanks for laying bare your inner thought life and being vulnerable with us. I think the fact that you've relayed your personal fears is immensely helpful. I realise that I struggle with the same thoughts and fears that your bring up, which leads to procastination - and then the dreaded downward spiral of guilt. Keeping it real Brandon!

My problem is I keep focusing on social media after I do all my homework and my classes. This quarter sucks cause none of them are studio classes and I'm doing 400 level classes where I have to present an essay on authenticity in african textiles and do some crap for an art and business class. At least my film class keeps me happy. Thankfully I've been scaling back my social media use. I stopped religously using facebook in April and after goofing off while also working full time over the summer talking with friends in messenger, and irl, I'm scaling back my messenger use. I don't wanna delete it cause I like these guys too much but I feel like sometimes when I don't know what to do, instead of drawing some character designs for an animation, I just talk with my friends about politics or some historical stuff.

I've been there. It used to be THE way I connected with friends. Now I use messenger a bit to communicate, but I try to make most of my socializing happen in person.

Can you make a video that details your comic creation process? From thumbnail to layout. I am more interested in how you plan out the comic book and not too much on execution of the illustrations.

Thank you for this video. =) I read the "war for creative" but it didn't work well for me ('t was fun read though). One of the most hard things for me is to get stared. Sometimes I start to work by sharpening my many pencils and setting everything in order at my table. Strangely, it works more often than one could've thought.

My problem is that I work 70 hours a week at my normie job to support my family. Prior to starting my career, I didn't manage to bring my skills up to a competitive level. Oh well. Also I had TOO MANY hobbies, I play several different instruments. digital and trad painting, drawing and sculpting. Jack of all trades, master of none. Too bad we only live once, I wish I could start over.

Why not master one if that's what you want? You probably have 1000s of hours of life left, so you can if you want. Yeah that amount of work is gonna be a problem if it's draining your ability to learn / practice. But this is the internet age so there's an abundance of opportunity to earn at least a side income online at home on your own terms instead, especially with basic digital art skills. Or maybe prioritise less income for more freedom with a different job, assuming that will still allow you & your family to maintain a decent standard of living? idk man. It aint over unless you say it is, it's up to you to be okay with how you're living or create the time to do more of what you want. you've got the potential to do so in this time more than any other. that's just the facts.
