thank you so much for all the videos. I've been studying statistics with your videos for quite some time. They are all very clearly explained. But for this one, I really don't understand why we have to multiply column variance with 7 to get the SSC. SSC is the sum of squares of the difference between column mean and overall mean, right? not between each observation point and overall mean(which is SST). Thank you in advance for your clarification.
@郭茹-y2q
@郭茹-y2q 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for you prompt reply. In previous videos, you said SSC is the sum of squares of differences between column mean and overall mean, which sounds pretty reasonable. But in this one, you multiplied column sum squares with 7 to arrive at SSC? Could you please clarify?

@@BrandonFoltz That part in this video(SSC=VAR.S(A2:C2)*2*7) is from around 17:50 to 18:00. You actually explained where the "7" is from. It's the 7 observation points in each column. But I don't get it why we have to do it 7 times. Thanks.
@BrandonFoltz

Hello! If you are only comparing two groups, then you would not use the ANOVA procedure. For that you would use the independent samples t-test. And yes, I have a video or two on that! :) ANOVA is for 3 or more groups.

Hello! To find where the differences are, you would have to do a pairwise post-hoc multiple comparisons test like the Tukey HSD, Scheffé Test (equal variances assumed) or Tamhane's T2, Dunnett's C (unequal variances assumed). These are only a few of the tests available out of many. You do those in a stats program like SPSS and it will give you a pairwise table and flag the significant pairs.

In general, ANOVA is used to compare 3 or more (continuous data) population means; the chi-square test is about counting...observed vs. expected frequency (discrete data). The frequency data in a chi-square do not belong to any distribution; which is called "non-parametric." So in very basic terms, if you are counting things and comparing that to some expectation = chi-square. If you are comparing 3+ population distributions means = ANOVA.
