My Grandpa served in the soviet army in the 60's. He was one of the best shooters. So when he left the army and became a bus driver, he would sometimes bring reservist officers to a gunrange to practice shooting. In the Winter the Officers would shiver because of the Cold, so my Grandpa just did the shooting for them.

I bought 4 SKS's back in the early 90's and gave one each to my 3 boys. I taught them how to shoot and hunt with them. I love these guns. Triggers are real rough off the shelf but that was easily rectified. The one I kept for myself would repeatably shoot under 3", 3 shot groups @75 yards. Not bad for a battle rifle and iron sights. And these are milled receiver guns for what it's worth.

Also just because people survived being stabbed with a tri bladed bayonet what does that have to do with it ? You do release that people have survived gunshots but that does not make them any less lethal , silly comment . And concerning the steel back then , it was in the 1950's not the middle ages and their steel was good but feel free to provide evidence it was not . The fact that the tri bladed bayonets did not break as easy was less about the steel and the fact it was circular and thicker than the bladed versions and if you had handled both you would see the difference . That is why they make great tent stakes also . Also Brandon mention the lethality of them and how they are frowned on so go ahead and feel free to correct him also .

@@danielkorladis7869 I'm not going to "bubba" a perfectly good SKS, I was going to purchase a damaged, already broken one to use for my project. Plus the modifications I would do to it wouldn't be anything that couldn't be reversed either. I'd be replacing parts with my own modified ones, meaning you could put it back together into it's stock format. I have a little more respect for historical firearms though. But what I want to prove to people, is that the SKS is not just some old outdated beater that you can buy for cheap and abuse. I wanna prove it's still as much a modern rifle as the others that are still around, it's just the layout it was produced in was dated. The ultimate goal though, if people like my proof of concept and want to buy it, is to produce SKS rifles brand new, in both "vintage" and my modern layout. So that way people don't have to butcher the historical ones, and so you also get a more modern precision manufacturing, and thus probably more accurate gun too.

My dad and uncle each got dirt cheap SKSs in the 90s, along with a train load of that steel-core ammo they used to have all over the place. They didn't get used very often compared to the lever guns, but when the SKSs did come out it was usually to put a hole through something that no one else could put a hole through. There's a big thicc pipe out by a reservoir they used to camp by, and for the longest time there were only 2 holes in the pipe (one from the SKS round going in, one from it coming out sideways). Now that the standard artillery is no longer the .30-30, there are a lot more holes in that thing, but for a good few years that keyhole steel-core penetration looked very impressive.

My very first rifle I bought when I was 20 was an SKS that already was "bubbafied". It was a POS. I later bought a Yugo 59/66 with the blade bayonet and grenade launcher attachment. That one is really cool. I liked it so much that I bought my dad the exact same one.

@@brownmangaming1529 was spoiled growing up. My grandpa collected wild west pieces. Not the normal stuff no. He only collected famous ppls guns. His collection included Billy the kids colt. The sherif that arrest hims rifle and his deputies pair of colts. Along with around 500 other famous guns. Almost all were winchester/colt factory engraving done for the buyer. He even had one of Roosevelt's hunting rifles at one point though it wasn't one of his special 2 bore big game rifles. Basically after seeing flawless 150 year old + guns and gun stocks. It was a bit of a shock to get a packed away sks that was never issued which had a damaged stock lol. Also gramps had quite a few war trophy from his time disarming nazi land mines. First gun I ever held was a c96 then a p08. His p38 was in a museum my whole childhood

When I got out of the Navy in 1992, I purchased my SKS identical to the one in this video with 1000 rounds of ammo for $89.95 at a place named Franklin Sports in Athens, Georgia. Every single deer that I have harvested have been with my SKS with one shot right through the heart including an 8 point that was all white with brown spots in Hogansville, Ga. Chipper (Larry) Jones owns that land after seeing me in a hunting magazine with that deer.
