I was a marksman in my conscript time in Slovakia with standard SVDN-1. Couple of experiences: 1. recoil hurts, you better press it to the shoulder 2 sniper bullets were expensive so we used Warsaw treaty machine gun bullets 7,62x54, ok for up to 400m - could pierce scaffolding iron pipe on that distance 3.Original optic was good and one could use iron sights without removing the optics 4 it had bayonett so the use was more marksman than sniper 5 trigger group spring could get bent when one pulled the bolt back while on safety - IMO design flaw - happened to me. 6 And yes I was the coolest looking guy on every picture :-)

I think an SVT-40 video would be great. I happen to have one that I purchased in 1994 at a gun show for $300. I know a lot of people out there don't even know this rifle exists and a lot only have seen it in video games. When I bought mine there were several on the table. I chose the one with a different muzzle break. Many years later I did some research on it and found that it was originally an AVT-40 select fire. The AVT's were built to ease a machine gun shortage but they couldn't take the sustained automatic fire, so when they broke they were rebuilt and put into SVT-40 configuration. I read that only 3500 were imported, so that makes them pretty rare.

You think that is bad? My cousin is from Texas City and knew a guy named Freshour. He had the chance to buy a Freshour Pauza 50 BMG. Freshour was an amazing gunsmith in Texas City and owned a shop. This was basically an auto rifle chambered in 50 BMG. Only like 50 were made. A prop was used in Robocop 2 and apparently his shop designed the extended barrel of Robocop's sidearm to make it look beefier. Look up videos on youtube of the thing in action.

I'm glad you're talking about it correctly, because so many people refuse to accept that this was absolutely a sniper rifle, designed for that purpose. Just because we like to think of modern "sniper" platforms as being weapons that can reach out and murk somebody at 2000+ yards has absolutely no bearing on the design intent here. Even the naming SVD (snayperskaya vintovka Dragunova) backs up it's purpose. If this kind of weapon were designed today it would likely be referred to as a DMR instead, but that concept didn't really exist in the 1960's.

I like the new 9,3mm SV-s! If they can use hunting ammo that means a lot!!! But once you fire Ex-Yu, Serbian made M76 PASP (Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle or Po-russki: poluavtomaticheskaya snayperskaya vintovka) in much more SLICK and SIGNIFICANTLY shorter rifle and has a rail that is much easier to find mounts for! Both here in EU and in US! Its twist and caliber makes it wind-resistant, better energy-carrying and intuitively falling chambering in 8mm Mauser/7,92mm IS and not so finicky in the bullet choice as SVD! I mean,it can fire API,Tracer,Ball and even the awful MG ball (or goat-crapammo as we call it!) not to mention most semi-decent Hunting Ammo and Sub-Sonic! SVD is...JUST BEAUTIFUL!!! I LOVED IT! And had more than I need! LOL But finding the right ammo for it was...nightmare! It is like shopping for shoes for some princess! I bought in bulk tin of Russian Sniper-AP ammo and it was..a nightmare! One could not fire it at all w/o stoppage, another one could had a 3 LtBOA accuracy at 100m (3 LtBOA= 3 Loosely thrown Buckets Accuracy at 100m), and the third one performed...WELL!!! And all 3 were Russian-made beauties with very close serial numbers! The same goes for hunting bullets! But once you find the right one... the only solution is hand reloading using those bullets or copy of the same by the Lapua! But again...Bulgarian copy that has SVD furniture but M76 action and ammo is LIKE...THE WORST THING AMONG EX-COMM-BLOCK "SNIPER" RIFLES YOU CAN PUT YOUR HANDS ON! DDR AK-74 with railing is MUCH MUCH better DMR/Infantry Support Sniper than that c++p! RIGHT?! Greetings from Croatia! ;-D

Looks a lot like the Chinese type 81, but in 7.62x54 instead of 7.62x39. It's also a short stroke gas system like the SKS, with an AK style rotating bolt and a last round hold open. AK mags can be modified to work in them, but the bolt will no longer stay open after the last round. Oddly enough, here in Canada AK's have been prohibited for decades, but we can get some other cool stuff, at least for now.

What I know for sure from the army is the bayonet on the SVD has an important pedagogical value. On the shooting range, if you don't score enough to pass, you'll have to fix the bayonet, crawl up to the target (the distance is usually anywhere between three and seven hundred meters), stab the target with a bayonet right in the bullseye and then crawl back. After a couple iterations accuracy increases dramatically. I always almost felt sorry for the poor bastards who had to do that.

Honestly, let's just appreciate how much money he dropped to bring us this video.

I think it's more like the video is paying for the new addition to his private collection 😂 we still get dope videos for free though and should still appreciate them.

@@gradymott4067 gun costs almost 20k, no way would this video pay for it

@@khakipeach2128 it won't any time soon. But as his channel grows, the views will continue to build. There's also not many KZbin videos on it, I'm sure he'll get plenty of views over time for being what I'm assuming is the most recent and entertaining video on the rifle.

@@khakipeach2128 Except that gun does not cost 20k and if you pay attention 1:30 its not SVD, but Chinese Norinco - NDM-86, that is around 3 000,00 $ - 4 250,00 $ based on rockisland auction house. Sure it might look like Soviet/Russian SVD, but its still just a clone of real deal... then again i would love to get my hand on one regardless and i'm not sure hows the quality comparing the two but its official license so maybe reasonable... but then again Chinese love scamming non Chinese...and now i'm wondering how SVD would look if you gave it a RK-95 treatment. Probably closely similar to SVDS with RK style polymers and surface coating... god damn now i want one bad....

@@Hellsong89 the proce you just listed was for a .308 auction over a year ago. These in 7.62 start at 10k and numbers matching ones in nice shape like that smeak closer to 20k

The scope uses a 1/3N battery. I had to replace the battery in my scope once. The batteries can be bought, and they are not cheap. I also found scopes with a higher magnification that will mount right up.

A friend of my dad's got a Romanian PSL, which is another variant of the SVD/Dragunov, brought it out to a range day we had organized for Veteran's day this year. That has to be the most fun I've ever had with a 7.62x54 rifle, and surprisingly pretty pleasant to shoot, had a spring loaded butt plate if you'd believe it, though after a bit of shooting I did notice it was starting to shove my glasses off my face with the scope lol. Edit: As Brandon corrected, its based off the AK more than the SVD but still has the same vibe. Still a great experience shooting it

It’s the same caliber, but the PSL is based on the AK platform so not a Dragunov, despite the furniture looking kinda similar

@@BrandonHerrera Thanks for the info, cheers from Florida. idk why my last reply got deleted, or at least it did on my end as of posting this one. Will say the only thing that was unpleasant about the rifle was the concussion from the muzzle device, could feel that from a solid 5 feet away.

The bayonet is there for a particular reason, when you run out of ammo you can use the weapon as javelin 😃
@ShinsakuToo2 жыл бұрын
It is for practise reasons. Marksman, when missed his target, should crawl to it, hit it with the bayonet, then crawl back.
