What brought me back to archery? Life changed, and things that made me happy in the past are becoming part of my life again. Watching and listening to Josh and others have reignited the passion. Watching Josh's bow reviews have been great and helped me make the decision to buy a new Lift X my last bow was 2008 Hoyt Katerra which is still a great bow but there have been some huge advances since then. I like to thank Josh for his stance and approach first for constantly saying to support your local archery shop and secondly pushing for people to learn to work on their own bows and understand what is causing tuning issues with that knowledge if you can't fixit your self you have the information to explain to your local shop the issue.

20 years ago, looking down the barrel of a gun and knowingly there has to be something more challenging. Walked into an archery shop in Bridge City, Texas and never looked back. Shout out to the crew at Precision Archery, been a long time since I have been there, but their impact created this journey!!

Being in East Tennessee glad to see MFJJ opening up in Nashville. Motorcycle wreck earlier this year made me put my time and effort into something other than motorcycles, archery was it. After healing up from the wreck, with in the first month of having the first bow, Matthews Lift, I got my first deer on my first hunt with the bow. Those events happening after something traumatic got me hooked into everything archery.

I grew up rifle hunting and had an opportunity to hunt an elk with a bow on private land. A game warden friend of mine shot his first bull that year and let me borrow his bow for the last 6 days of the season. I shot my first cow elk with a bow on the last day. I’ve been hooked ever since!

Getting back into archery after 25 years away. Bad health choices made me way overweight. Taking charge of my life, getting moving and archery gives me exercise with a purpose. Bought my bow the day before Thanksgiving and shot my first indoor tournament 10 days later.

I use to do a lot of ultra long range rifle shooting. I was force moved with work across the country and I could no longer shoot my guns far. My dad and brothers would go bow hunting and I was talked into it. I shot my first deer on my second sit and I was hooked. I couldn’t believe how close I was and it made it super exciting. I found I had to stay in better shape for archery and tinkering was the same as my gun. I love trying to find the most fogginess and building a really accurate set up. Arrow flight and lighted nocks are mesmerizing and a lot of fun too !

Hey Brandon The “going hard at first” is typically referred to as “Hyper Fixation” and it’s a spectrum thing. I’m the same way. I go hard for 6-18 months and then throttle back and focus on something else, I never get out of each fixation, I just throttle back a bit and focus on the next interesting thing

My girls and job had me away from bow hunting the last 10years. I wanted to get back into bow hunting because of my Dad couldn’t hunt anymore due to Parkinson. He showed me how to bow hunt and I needed to get back to what I love to have my Dad with me when I’m out hunting. I went out and bought a Mathews Lift 33. It was a great year and shot a nice 8 pointer at 56 yards. I’m going full bore back into archery that I just took my bow technician class and I want to start my own small archery shop. I will be at the ATA show this January.

Three years three bucks and three doe’s with it and slowly saving for a new lift x but it might be next season before that happens! My local bow shop is exactly how Josh described, hide in the back and barely say what they are doing. Hell they didnt even paper tune my setup. But I love having KZbin and the aid of real professionals good luck on the new shop!! Heading into late archery season here in Iowa !!

The hybrid design is my favorite. I have used several. The distances, however, really do show what they can or cannot actually do. An old hybrid, after sharpening, dead ringer rampage were a very good hybrid. Under 40 yards for my shots though. Now dead ringer has many other options.

Shot my first deer at 12 years old with my Browning Micro Midas. That was in 2002. I’ve shot a multiple deer with a bow every single year since then and I’m 34 years old today. Crazy to think I’m only 34 and have 28 years of archery experience and 22 years of hunting with archery equipment. I’ve strictly bow hunted for the past 5 years. Shot my biggest buck last year with my Phase 4.

The Beast heads fly so good as distance because they are light which offsets the wind drag a bit. Every one of the 4 Beast heads I weighed are 97ish grains. Sevr's are all 100-101. I'm convinced that's why they drop so much less at extreme distances.
@brandonmcdonald61213 күн бұрын
Could be a small contributing factor but likely not all of it. Drag has to be in the equation

The bug that bit me was literally just the season time/less people/ getting close enough to hear the animal moving and breathing and spending time with my dad. Love archery been doing it for many years but have never got an animal with my bow have had many awsome opportunities that have failed due to equipment failures or me (mule deer and elk spot and stock wy). Going to buy a new bow and go all in next year tired of just filling my tags with a rifle.

43:16 Dude, if this was there when i was at Campbell, i would be working there. I lived at the only close shop we had in 07-11 in Woodlawn. I love the Ashland area. Ive thought of moving back millions of times. Hunting, fishing, and country living are amazing around there. I got into archery to have something that was mine. I grew up in a divorced family. That little throwaway bit about Gold Tip @ the start has been on my mind since this aired. I hate that Vista sold off the Kinetic Group to CSG, and now very curious to see what they do with the remaining brands like Gold Tip. GT can't be wildly profitable, and I struggle to see any revolutionary changes they could be bringing to this specific industry to differentiate themselves. It's a decent, respected tier 1B brand in a market that seems dominated by two at the top on the prestige/quality side, with several competing on there value/cost lower end of the market. Gold Tip is unfortunately in the middle, which I would think is economically precarious. I'd think Black Eagle is a peer in this respect. My $$ is on Vista offloading GT to one of their competitors who maybe has the brand caché and could benefit from the manufacturing capabilities. (all random musings and conjecture)

In Germany Bow-Hunting is a serious crime, but we are allowed to train for it..and if you have a regular hunting license you can add the bowhunting - license for if you visit other countries - BUT I learned you never shoot more than 30 meters (ever) at an animal.. So I do not get, why a broadhead needs to fly 100 yards.. Well, Bowmar shot big game animals in Africa from 70, 90, 128 and what not.. but on the average we do not draw 90lbs. and only hunt for deer, turkey or hoggs..
