It just feels like the story itself couldn't decide if the robots where sentient (aside from Adam and Eve who are blatantly an evolution of the robots). Like, they seriously do mimic human behaviors for no reason without any purpose, cause, or understanding of why they're doing it. I get that that's supposed to be a philosophical question asking "why do any of us do anything" but I'd argue humans understand why we have babies. These robots don't. Same with the forest kingdom. They keep putting baby robots in charge expecting them to grow up, but they're robots. They've lived their own existence and should know that's not how tf that works, but they don't understand. They have no consciousness towards what they're doing it. Anyway. I love Nier but I think they really flubbed the sheep on making them fully sentient when they rarely act like it. They act more like animals, and I think it works better that way. Yes, the robots the androids are killing are basically unevolved apes, but they're still monsters for killing animals so callously. And then they evolve into the sentiment beings Adam and Eve, who are clearly capable of much higher thought than any of the other robots.

Basically, the replicants cannot reproduce because they lack the soul, when the two are united, they could. So one interesting thing to note: For all intents and purposes, the androids in the NieR series are *essentially* cyborgs with artificial souls, rather than conscious intelligent machines. We know they were developed using magic specifically derived from Angelus, we know they're capable of using magic- something only a being with a soul can do- and we also know they're not affected by White Chlorination. We also know from Automata that they're a combination of biological material (having blood, organs and functioning brains), man-made materials/magics, and using the Machine Cores as the main powerplant and networking solution, running a custom OS. They are, functionally, humans. They can taste, eat, drink, get drunk. Biologically they're all based off different unique humans' genetic code. In a way, they're just enhanced Replicants that are immune to the Black Scrawl, having no gestalt. A2 is, explicitly, based off Kaine's genetic code. Now I bring this up because, by all this presented, it is entirely feasible that the androids could have *literally* given birth to a new generation of humans if they just gave themselves the capacity to do so, and if I wanted to be speculative about the end-game of YorHa, that'd probably be the end-goal after wiping machines off the face of the Earth. Bring humans "back from the moon", by literally just incubating and birthing humans using whatever genetic information they have available. *Edit: A2 isn't based off Kaine, but rather, the human that became Kaine's Gestalt.
@metachronicler Жыл бұрын
I got maybe five minutes into the video before I remembered why I hated this game so much. Whoever is responsible for the scenario doesn't know what they are doing. The Humans and later androids have more than one mechanism available to try and ensure human survival and they only seem to use one. They should have just stored multiple copies of the human genome around the world, and in other parts of the solar system. (Through their androids.) But everyone had to be so painfully stupid. I'm glad I called it quits after the first scenario. If I had actually played through the game and had to deal with these "revelations" I think I would have lost brain cells. This is almost worse than Callisto Protocol where the scenario writer in that game gave the antagonists a far easier technology to develop that would have achieved their goals without the stupid uncontrollable monsters. Dear scenario writers stop coming up with rube goldberg plots that fall apart because you give your own setting two or three different ways to solve a problem that don't get used because people are ten times more brain dead in your setting than they are in real life.
@TheBestestKitty Жыл бұрын

In addition to what other commenters said, keeping 9S around is in line with the android leaders’ thirst for data - he’s a rogue input that can allow for them to discover new mappings. And curiosity is something natural to humans, and understand humans seems to be a key obsession for the droids.

I have a theory that the events of the Drakengard games and Nier series is just a time loop. The "Ancient City" that arrives before Drakengard 3 looks like it came the modern world and all the magic books in the libraries are just extra grimoires like Noir, Weiss, and Rubicon. So I figure Caim and Angelus didn't go to another world but just the future to start the time loop. I know it sounds weird but I can't find anything in the games or supplementary materials that says it couldn't be possible.
@alanalb14492 жыл бұрын

The 10H story , 25:08, is by far my favorite NieR short story for small details that were not mentioned on the video. One of these is in the hatch that leads to the ocean. When 10H first sees the hatch, she notices a black spot on it. This black spot is later revealed to be the a mark left by previous versions of 10H. The other detail left out is what makes it my favorite short story. Right before the story ends, the pod starts talking to himself in a nostalgic matter. Shortly after, he mentions how this is the 46th time that 10H has figured out the truth. This one sentence makes this story to be a never-ending loop: 10H’s tragic fate. 10H is eventually saved from this fate by the end of NieR: Automata when The Tower launches a rocket to the moon, destroying the server, and every trace of humanity left.
@ComplexAce2 жыл бұрын
The rocket never launches tho Niether in ending C (because A2 shuts down the machine network) or D (because the machines decide to launch an Ark with their data instead of a rocket at the moon, influenced by Adam, Eve, the Androids, and the humans.)

Wee! Fun video!! :D Here are some notes if you’d like: @12:45 The machines didn’t kill the aliens because they wanted to live, it was because the aliens were too primitive and couldn’t evolve along with the machines. The machines merely got too powerful for them to handle. Additionally, the aliens also gave the machines the command to “destroy the enemy”, so it may be possible that the aliens were the first to strike the machines from which the machines would then see the aliens as the enemy and destroy them. @19:19 1941 (you said 1945) @19:30 No2 wasn’t the leader of the mission, that was No1, who was destroyed upon descent. No2 wasn’t made captain until after they landed. @19:45 Not sure where the “lone wolf” bit came from, but that’s not in any of the source material. It’s never stated that the false memories actually come from human personality data; that’s speculation, however likely. @23:30 The M Squad of YoRHa weren’t Type M YoRHa. There were Scanners, Gunners, Attackers, and a Healer… Pretty typical. We don’t ever see Type M YoRHa, although Yoko stated that there are designations for every letter of the alphabet. We just haven’t seen them. @24:35 The No9 in YoRHa Boys is not the same individual android as 9S because he’s already been activated prior to this (he’s first activated on January 30, 11942; the M Squad mission takes place later that July), so they are unrelated in that regard. Merely, they are both No9 YoRHa, so they share the same base personality. That’s about all that connects them. @30:18 The machines have been present on the Bunker as early as December 8, 11941 during the Pearl Harbor Descent Mission. @31:46 It’s stated during the NieR Orchestra Concert 12018 that they’ve met (for the first time) 47 times prior to the prologue, so it could be safe to say that this number also corresponds to the number of times she’s killed him. So by the end of the prologue that would be 48 times.
@ThBrando3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the notes! I can't believe I messed up the Pearl Harbour date 😅. 47 times in the three years plus two months from activation to the prologue, which means your average 9S unit lasts 24.5 days. Poor dude can't catch a break.

I think it was blanked out because it has multiple meaning. 9S obviously cares for 2B a lot, but he also has those subconscious memories about her killing him over and over, and deep down he likely hates her or fears her for that. A lot of the games since drag-on dragoon have vary similar lines spoken that really makes you think could they be the same guy like young Nier and 9s case they go through tough times and go crazy even to the bloodshed Caim had in drakengard because of his hardships. Well good series that makes you think to really amazing ideas.

I have a theory of how the FFXIV Nier crossover YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse is possibly cannon and fills in the loose ends in Drakengard if anyone is interested.

It's a year now, so I'm not even sure you look back at these comments. I played Automata because my buddy bought it and his PS4 ended up tanking and he ended up giving it to me. I bought Replicant about a year later... Holy shit, was the story so captivating! There was so much in between that I struggled to grasp or was completely miss from the game. Not only do you fill in those blanks, but you explain it so well and expertly! Like some other comments have said, when the next video comes out, you just immediately have to watch it! I really hope your channel continues to grow and with the fan base ever growing, I see that happening! in the meantime, I'll keep watching the great content!

As someone who has never played the Nier games, let me answer your question. I finished up the Nier raids in FF14 and I was very confused. Who are these people? Why are they wearing blindfolds? What do they mean a war between androids and machines? Aren't androids machines? So I started watching videos explaining this stuff. Yours have been quite clear and helpful. So thank you.

Strangely the Aliens had different discriptions, Adam described them as plants while Emil in his first encounter with them described their appearance as octopus-like. Also in the Dark Apocalypse it's stated the actual 2B and 9S encountered a SOD and transfered their data into it in order to destroy it but somehow it recreated that data as 2P.

They're octupus like in their appearance while being plant-like in their behavior.

I think the plant description moreso refers to their behaviour rtgaer than appearance. We actually do see them in automata and they look alike octopus raisins tbh
