Customers don’t care about nothing but a good job
@CardosCarDose6 ай бұрын
I once tried to apply for a certified only ceramic coating when I was mobile detailing and the criteria that set me off was "Must have a presentable van." When I asked the rep for context, they were basically asking me to go get a $15K set up just so I can have the privilege to wave a coating bottle that may or may not perform any better than the consumer ready bottle. On top of all of that... The customer wouldn't care....

😂 ".... the privilege to wave a coating bottle ...." Both hilarious and 100% truth!

Brotha you’re a genius. It’s like as I realize things in my business you make a corresponding video. A few months ago we started using consumer grade coatings, and the results are just as good if not better. The customer is still happy, and we don’t have to bow to the whims of our suppliers.

Glad that someone brought this up. After sometime, I've always questioned these coating companies where you have to be certified. It NEVER made any difference in my company. Funny thing is now I use only a specific coating (yes he's well known here on youtube and been in the game for a long time). It's easier to apply, only 1 layer, great durability, and is available for everyone. Oh, and he's very responsive with any questions I may have. Find something that makes your job more efficient, while also having a great backing behind the product without the need of all the headaches.

Many manufacturers, particularly in industries like window tint and paint protection film (PPF), set minimum order requirements or other thresholds when partnering with distributors. This isn’t intended to exclude smaller shops but rather to ensure they can support their larger clients effectively. Managing numerous smaller, independent shops can become resource-intensive for manufacturers, leading them to prioritize partnerships with distributors that have high volume and greater long-term growth potential. This model allows manufacturers to invest more resources in their relationships, ultimately supporting vertical growth and building deeper partnerships over time. I understand and respect the desire to support smaller businesses, but it’s also important to recognize why some manufacturers focus on larger-volume clients
@Spirited2826 ай бұрын
You make some very good points. When i purchased a new car 3 years ago i had both xpel and ceramic pro applied (i am not happy with Ceramic Pro) and asked when i brought my ride in for it's "yearly refresh" if they could offer other coatings and they told me no. Needless to say this year i will strip it and add my own coating.
@SteveCTD2 ай бұрын
I can agree to a point, but not all products are created equal regardless of how good the installation is. Also not listing your certifications (not product, but like the smoke removal type) is 100% leaving money on the table. So many customers will hit social media and website without talking to you, and if they are specifically looking for that type of service and you don’t have it listed as a certification and another company does, you most certainly lost that client.
@travissmith3836 ай бұрын
You don't even need any of those products. Just use Meguiars for almost everything exterior related. You can never go wrong. Just dont use their products for lens restoration. Use Sylvania for Headlight Restoration. If you only wet sand and buff headlights, you're not doing a great job and it will only last 3 months. Sylvania will last beyond 2 years and would be a great add on to your service.

Oscar, I'm 1,000% behind you on this. I've thought this for years. It is absolutely absurd that ANY chemical or product supplier would try to have any influence on my or amyone else's business. I called Ceramic Pro 3 years ago. As soon as they told me about how they limit installers by " terriroty", I told them tney can go pound sand. I've been in business for 33 years but some kids who weren't even born when I started my business are the only " certified" installers in my area. Ceramic Pro, I will never, ever do business wirh you again for any reason. Same for any company who insists on their " certifications". I've been in business long enough and with ample experience to train THEM, so that's a hard no. This needed to be said and I hope tbese companies see this video and realize how ridiculous their attempted monopoly is. You younger detailers, listen to Oscar on this, he is absolutely right on this. When detailers start all saying no to the buy in systems, they will have no choice but to stop doing this. That puts more money in your pocket, not theirs.
@justinumberger53146 ай бұрын
I 100% agree. But I can understand it a little with the companies that have manufacturer warranties. If they have some potato installing their coatings or whatever and does a piss poor job. Then that's money out of the brands pocket covering those coatings to be replaced.
@danlc956 ай бұрын
I think there are more and more people just avoiding these types of assiciations. Even if they meet all the requirements, why reward them for their behavior? Xpel is HUGE and they're continuing to grow. So much so that they'll have to either buy out their competition, of face the looming "adjustments" that may arise from people just casually seeking other options with an easier, more reasonable entry point. The IDA is a double edge sqord for me. One because I like detailing, but two because I don't like people telling me what to do. Imagine losing your job, driving to Auto Zone to pick up a goo set of defailing products only to have hired IDA goons shake you down for some money.... I want everyone who is capable and caring to be able to go out and make money without yet another bureaucracy hindering the process.

Respectfully some of the things you reference here I can understand your frustration but I also see though you have a business you aren’t business savvy as it pertains to structure. If your brand grew enough to you being able to offer franchises you would soon find out how necessary some guidelines are for the concentration and longevity of your brand.

I agree with this more so than not. What I mean is I DO fully understand the ethical side of this and Im totally in line there. Brands forcing training, I think is "ok"-ish, but to be forced to buy X amount per month, can't be within so many miles of another installer, etc. That kind of thing I really do not get at all. And to have someone come in and look at your shop?!.....Bruh......

Sadly not uncommon across different industries. Seen this sort of predatory practices in medical software too. For our smaller company to interface with a large EMR they wanted us to be a “partner” in their “App Store” while charging us 20% of all revenue we charged the customer. Not 20% just the interfacing add-on, they wanted 20% of all revenue sold to our customer. Insane. However, I do see some wisdom in authorized installer model for products that are highly dependent on installation method/techniques and you want to make sure the people working with your product are doing it right. But bundling that with exclusivity clauses and minimum sales is pretty crummy.
