I'm always impressed to see just how gently these folks manage their couplings -- all the more impressive when it's such a non-standard vehicle providing the power.

amazing video combines semi and train that would come in handy only question I have I notice the drive tires ride on the rail though doesn't that start cutting at the tires or unless all of the weight is actually on the train wheels then it would make since but by the looks it looks like the drive wheels rest on the track

@Rebel96689 жыл бұрын
This is probably going to come off sounding ignorant, but why don't they just have a switcher locomotive for this kind of work?
@ph11p35408 жыл бұрын
+Rebel9668 Most US and Canadian railways removed most of their specialized switch locomotives. You only see such locomotive in the classification yard now. CN was one of the first companies to get rid of switch locomotives in favor of using switch trucks as a cost management and to make dispatching switching services more flexible and fast. Most that's far away from the classification yard involves only 5 railway cars at a time at some remote spur and a truck is often better at getting dispatched than a switch engine that ends up occupying or denying passage to a mainline train. Good question to ask since I asked the same thing when CN first started doing this over 20 years ago.

+Ankhnybayar Battulga Correct me if I am I wrong but I looked that up and it means leg in one language and a type of beer in another. I am pretty sure the way you typed it means "leg" so what meaning does it have here and how is it relevant here in regards to my conversation?
@ATSF192712 жыл бұрын
Does the truck driver have a throttle jerkers licenses or is it not required. with that truck you won't have the long wait for a locomotive, modern railroad world is a lot better. excellent video Walter....Don.

WorldEagleKW LOL Thanks for watching
@ph11p35408 жыл бұрын
+WorldEagleKW It's for moving old railway ties and other track parts back for disposal. They frequently sit inside the gondola as they pick and grab old track parts from the side of a track line. This one is clearly sitting on top of the old ties. It's very convenient and efficient.

I just repaired this truck.
@ph11p35408 жыл бұрын
I bet that truck could pull up to 500 tons if it applies it's traction tires just right. The acceleration that truck had when moving that loaded gondola really demonstrated how aggressively those tires gripped the track.
@pwalpar8 жыл бұрын
+Phillip Mulligan it dont use the rubber tire on the track it has an electric traction motor just like a train
@ph11p35408 жыл бұрын
Can I ask why then the main drive tires appear to sag a bit when they touch the rails? They are clearly pushing hard against the track. CNs trucks use the tires as drive wheels on their modified Western Stars. I guess it depends on the railways truck modifications.
@pwalpar8 жыл бұрын
+Phillip Mulligan I dont know all the details my friend maybe you can see better in this video how it works kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIu8p3uQoNytiq8
