Very impressed with the rate of progress in traffic. Also noticed that the leader got dressed on the journey so that he and no doubt his team are ready to immediately attack the fire. In the US they only put on their equipment/breathing mask etc AFTER they get to the fire. While I can see the risks in not being in their seatbelts in the Netherlands they are obviously ready to go to work as soon as they arrive. From my experience of driving in Holland the drivers there are much more willing to get out of the way of emergency vehicles - well done!!!!

I wonder wht they do if they were driving in London UK a very bad place to for emergency vehicles

Murray: Firefighters in the US do indeed don their protective gear and SCBA before arriving at a fire. Search KZbin for FDNY or other departments and you'll see when they arrive, they hope off the truck ready to go. That's because the seats that they are sitting in have the equipment built-into them. You just grab the shoulder straps and the SCBA tank is on your back, ready to go (there are a few more steps than that, but that's the simple explanation). Same with the Captain, who sits in the right seat. We do the same thing in the US that you saw there. The thing that would drive me crazy though is that siren. I'll take wail, yelp any day over nonstop Hi-Lo. One more thing...I was really surprised that they were not wearing headphones. It saves your hearing after years of sitting underneath a loud air horn and siren. Plus, you can talk to anyone on the rig (because they are wearing them also) and you can hear each other very well because of the noise-canceling microphones. The most popular brand in this neck of the woods is David Clark. We can also talk to the dispatcher on the radio by pushing the transmit button. Go take a tour of your local fire station, but bring a kid if you can so it won't seem weird with an adult coming by himself. LOL, j/k...sort of.

@@andysmith6824 In regards to the headphones which in all fairness is quite a smart thing, shouting through the truck seems to be a solution that seems to surfice. In the Netherlands, in general, only the captain will speak to the dispatcher. And inside the truck that is sufficient in my opinion. Outside this rule, in general, applies too. Though it is probably possible for each firefighter to talk with the dispatcher on his/her radio, but I'm not sure if this is the case.

@maxvandenberg9553 жыл бұрын
@@MusicSoulSound Not really, the Volvo driver could hear the siren from like a mile away. The Volvo driver should have paid extra attention and should have stopped! The Volvo driver didn’t. Volvo driver would have been at fault.

@@Dutch3DMaster You can hear the fire-brigade from like a kilometre away. If the person is deaf, he/she should alway pay extra attention. If unsure, stop! Cause that person would have been at fault.
@Dutch3DMaster3 жыл бұрын
@@maxvandenberg955 People who are deaf have learned to trust the other senses they have much much more than people who are able to hear and see (in the same way a blind person is also much more reliant on it's hearing than people who can see usually are). As a result they usually pay much, much better attention than people who have all their senses fully working, someone who is deaf might even be capable of feeling the sound pressure in their stomach should they have missed it. Yes you can hear them from a mile away, but there are many people who experience thunnelvision upon seeing a part of traffic doing uncalculated moves due to the emergency vehicle closing in on them, completely missing the vehicle itself, or experience superhigh stresslevels due to the sudden panic of seeing all the flashing lights and, as a result might completely miss the indicator that the fire truck is using to signal which way they are actually going. You basically see the same thing with people near roundabouts, some people speed up seriously bad towards one when an emergency vehicle shoots up behind them and continue on their route and that way still blocking the vehicle's rapid progress, or by not realising a fire-truck or ambulance needs more space than their car decide to halt on the centerpiece of the roundabout which at first looks like a good idea untill it causes the firetruck to have to steer clear of that vehicle while making the turn, which might cause them to have to reduce speed.

A great example of the effectiveness of the air-powered bullhorn at moving stationary traffic. Very aggressive use that UK brigade EFAD instructors would disapprove of. Not me though. This video is proof, if proof was ever needed, that they bloody work. People in the UK would complain about this "over use", the firefighters would be reprimanded, and the horns would be disconnected!!! Such is the ridiculousness of my country. My local brigade - Staffordshire in England - have these horns fitted to their frontline appliances, but I have NEVER EVER heard them being used. What's the point of having them if you don't use them? But then I shouldn't be surprised: back in the '80s, my local station had the electronic wail/yelp sirens disconnected on their two fire engines after a farmer complained that they were upsetting his cows!
@crazyleyland51062 жыл бұрын
I preferred the 2 tone horns. Less painful on the ears but still good and loud. A few years ago, I think in Somerset, a farmer was killed when his cattle stampeded- I believe they were spooked by a wail yelp siren. I don't think they've ever been used in the UK, but I rather like the American Q sirens- again good and loud, but not piercingly shrill.
