Why Epsom salt and why not bone meal and gypsum ? Looking at your grow plants it is hard to argue with how healthy your tomatoes are~!
@PepplesPotager8 ай бұрын
I've never used gypsum, but Jobes Tomato and Vegetables Fertilizer has bone meal in it. Epsom salt helps with magnesium deficiency and supposedly helps tomatoes taste better.

Did you trim them to one stem or did you let them bush out?

Most of my Cherokees Purple's are towards the bottoms of plant, few up high. What is the difference between Brandywine Red and the Brandywine (without a color name)?

Brandywine Red is a version of Brandywine tomatoes that has a deeper red color. Regular Brandywine is more pink.

I’ve been watching too many gardening videos but I see you remove some suckers and leaves not right at the stem Seems like a good idea any reason?
@PepplesPotager6 ай бұрын
Maybe because I planted them so close together, I decided to thin the foliage a bit.
@TheHighpotinuse3 жыл бұрын
Smart way to plant the two types instead of planting one type per side of the trellis. Makes it harder for them to cross pollinate. Keep the seeds from the ends just to be sure.

I don't save seeds. But a cross between these two may turn out good.

Do you prune your tomatoes?
@PepplesPotager Жыл бұрын
Yes I do. I try to keep them pruned to one main stem.
@topquark352 жыл бұрын
I noticed the leaves are also sorr of curled down. Is that normal for the potato leaf? I am growing yellow brandywines and each time a bew leaf emerges it is sort of curled up downwards.
@PepplesPotager2 жыл бұрын
If they curl up I think it's usually physiological leaf roll. I see it every year on a few of my tomato plants wether it's potato leaf or not. Probably do to environmental conditions in the soil. It is very common.
@PepplesPotager2 жыл бұрын
Curled down could mean low nutrients or some sort of viral or fungal disease.
@topquark352 жыл бұрын
@@PepplesPotager hi. Yeah. I rhink that's it. It's not all the leaves too. Some leaves would come out rolled downward at the tips. Some don't. The ones that are curled.down sometimes stretch out normally abd some stay curled. Anyway, I saw some in yours are that way too. Thanks for the insight!
@shawnmoss93223 жыл бұрын
Good video. I did see a little bloom end rot. You should add a little gypsum powder as an amendment when you plant them. This will add calcium without changing the soil PH and BER will not occur. Many blessings and good harvests to you sir.
@sportguy-live262 жыл бұрын
It's not always a calcium problem infrequent watering can also cause this problem..

My mom mixed the San Marzano seeds with the 1884 tomato so we won't know till the harvest, between Brandywine potatoleaf and Cherokee purple which one do you like it more? And which is the most overall resistant? I'm looking to plant just one variety next year to avoid cross pollination.
@PepplesPotager3 жыл бұрын
I would say that Cherokee Purple is my favorite. I think Brandywine and Cherokee Purple are both equal in the disease resistance. I prefer the darker tomatoes. I will never stop growing Cherokee Purple Tomatoes. They truly are the best tasting in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
@karwoski913 жыл бұрын
@@PepplesPotager Do you think Cherokee purple is good enough for making tomato sauce? We use San Marzano for sauce but I'd like to grow only one variety to avoid cross pollination.
@PepplesPotager3 жыл бұрын
No need to worry about cross pollination unless your saving seeds. I do not make my own so I couldn't tell you whether its good for sauce or not. I know some people use them for salsa. We use them for salads and tomato sandwiches. We usually give any extras to friends or coworkers.
