Powerbites are my all time favorite cranksets and have them on all my bikes. But i do have a pair of the original 1st gen RNC aluminum cranks. I just couldn't love them due to the square shape of the arms. These cranks look like a totaly different product though. As far as the pedal bosses, i believe the RNC cranks are 7 series aluminum vs powerbites are a 6 series. So a harder more durable material. Much like the difference between Odyssey 7k rim vs the hazard rim.

My power bites are 20 yrs old and still mint , tuff cranks 😊, and they are on my 2003 Hoffman condor pro team 43.5lbs triple walls , 94 ramp room love handles it’s a beast 🎉

Powerbites - " Am I a joke to you?" On a serious note, I could see the pedal boss being an issue over time. I'm all for new innovations in bmx, I just don't really know how I feel about them. They wouldnt be for me, but there is obviously an audience for them.

I have the 3pc RNC ti cranks, last 3 pc version they made and I have no complaints toehr than my bike mechanic friend makes fun of me relentlessly for blowing money on them.

Hey Brent! Remember those Legendary cranks you reviewed? Maraging steel cranks. Do they make a bmx frame out of that stuff?

Not anymore. I believe Reynolds Tubing was made with maraging steel. You could probably find a bunch of info it you do some digging

I have been riding mine on my race bike and I love them. Yeah I definitely experienced some issues along the way especially with the proprietary deal but all is well. I’ll actually be sending mine off for anodizing over the winter. I had originally planned on using them on my 2000 barcode but ended up on my racer lol.

Great coverage, as usual, Brant! A year on and I'm still stoked on my RNC titanium Superlite cranks but I agree the 2-piece design can be a pain in the ass when fitting to a new frame, even if you measure everything correctly first. I think the new alloy crank is a bit hideous, if I'm being brutally honest but they could look sweet on a raw or chrome frame. Thankfully you have other polished parts to make them work.

i use loctite on my pedals because i had the same issue with them loosening and i wasn't comfortable with it. my pedals haven't come loose since

I would not buy them just due to the fact that all that stuff is propriatary. If they abandon the design, good luck getting parts. If you're out and something breaks well again you're dead in the water until parts come in not even a chance of getting a whatever sprocket bottom bracket ect just to get buy for the day or Weekend. And the alum threads on the cranks is also another no go for me.

Nope, aluminum sucks for cranks. Besides I've seen people who are not hard on their bikes, had their ti RNC cranks strip splines on the arms. Maybe a lightweight guy that races can get away with aluminum . Ive been riding since the early 80s, not once was aluminum cranks ever a good or long lasting design. I dont mind being proven wrong, so lets see..
