This piece sounds like an ending of a chapter and a beginning of a new one; a moment of life and death, peace and war, joy and sorrow, and the feeling of becoming whole yet also empty. It's a feeling of both worlds - the feeling of satisfaction yet also wanting more. The achievement of understanding and not comprehending. It's a mystery and also a discovery. Indeed, it's such an exceptional piece which touches the contrasting aspects of humanity.

WHY DO I LIKE THIS SONG SO MUCH? I did not like this song. In fact, I did not like Debussy. There was a girl at the piano college I did (UNESP) who lived playing this song and was the teacher's darling. She avoided me. The girl did not like it when I played my Simpsons, Mario, India Jones and my classical music, and left the room when I played piano for the teacher. It was very unpleasant. And I got angry at this song and at Debussy. But a few years ago, I heard this song being played on the Simpsons and the Godfather, and I remembered this girl. Then, I bought a new piano (the one you see in the video and that plays alone) and guess what! My pianola played this song! And it came with a score book and had that song. I put the piano all the time to play alone for me, and every time I played this song, and I started to really like this song. I picked up the book and suddenly, I was playing it. Nowadays it is the music that I like to play. I play it every day. She is perfect to please others, and to do funny things while we play her long notes. That's the real reason I play this song so much. Regards Vinheteiro

This was my grandfathers favorite song, we played it at his funeral. He lived to be 99 years old, born in 1901. Just a thought for everyone, if you're fortunate enough to have grandparents now and they live to tell you stories about anything at all.....record it! I will share 1 with you now. My grandfathers parents owned a tavern by the Wabash River, they always kept their eyes on the 'ice man's that went down on the river and cut the ice from the river to put refrigerator for them, then spreading hay on top tried to keep it cold as they possibly could

May he rest in peace. May he rest in peace! My grandfather was born in 1929 and is going to be 94 years old in a few weeks. He has told me stories of how his father owned a bread truck and how he had to get up at 3-5am at 8 years old to help his father at the bakery to load up the truck. I am blessed to have him as he can still walk, sometimes even better than me, but unfortunately he is an alcoholic, and a violent one at that. He’s my only grandparent since the other three passed before I was born. At least I can say I have some good memories from him, and he’s the reason I play piano and am here in the first place to leave this comment :)

This piece encapsulates sadness and happiness in such a delicate balance... it represents an experience comparable to graduating high school. You are leaving that safety and that stability you have been through almost everyday for 12 years... you are leaving friends and faces you’ve seen for years.... but with that sadness you can’t help but feel happy that you are free... that your life has now truly begun. Leaving the stability of school is saddening... the outside world is truly scary.... having to grow up is scary but you can’t help but feel excited about starting your own life... about beginning a new chapter in your life.

This piece tells a story to me, it's not quite the same everytime, but it's something like this. This new century is still very young, its early spring in the year 1909. This is an interesting time, somewhere between the old world and new. All things in this age seem possible. A young lad, maybe 24 or 25, meets a beautiful young woman on the street of a renowned Promenade in France. This young woman enthrals him, her beauty and elegance captivates him. He approaches her and invites this dazzling young woman to a romantic evening with him. A night they spend with eachother strolling down the modestly illuminated Promenade, drinking wine in little cafes on the street corner, gazing into each others eyes when they hear this melody being played on an old piano. They stay there with eachother late into the following day, only leaving when the flames of the candles on their table fades away. Time to them was endless. He stays there with her, and they spend these days of their youth and innocence happily in each other's arms. Several years pass of him courting her. He had loved her more than anything else he had ever dreamed of. However, war comes. He is forced to go and fight. He tells her goodbye and reluctantly leaves her in that french town they loved each other in. They write letters, yet he stops receiving them after a few months. A year passes, two, three, he hasn't heard from her. The war is over. He returns to the town where he said goodbye to her. The town has received substantial damage from the great war. He looks all over, yet never again finds her. He is forced to move on. Years pass, decades pass. He never knew what happened to her. Unfortunately he never will. He tries to forget, but he is always left unfulfilled. Another war comes, and another war ends. Of course, he's too old to participate in this one. Some years after it ends though, he goes back to that town in France. He's an old man now, it's been nearly 50 years since he had last seen her, but he hasn't forgotten. He's walking down an old Promenade, the same one he walked down all those years ago. Two wars have changed it, yet nonetheless it's still the same. "Nightime in spring is a wonderful time for a stroll" he reckons. As he makes his way past a little cafe, he stops. He listens. he hears this song coming from inside, Its being played elegantly upon the strings of an old piano. Yes, Its the same melody. He closes his eyes. He remembers, and once again, he returns to 1909.

In my humble estimation, Claire De Lune is the most beautiful piece of music ever composed. It is emotion, it is color, it is beauty, it is soul wrenching and positive. I can never hear it enough. I've made it my life's mission to be able to play. Thank you Claude Debussy.

@tomrl66745 жыл бұрын
To me its more like the circle of life. Hopeful childhood, growing into glorious midlife achieving all ambitions, moving into seniority as it slows down and is melancholic that one won't be able to see their children and children's children achieve their ambitions, but still hopeful they will lead a good life, and dying on a happy note surrounded by those you love.

This is probably my favorite piece of music ever. Years ago, I first heard it as a kid, I thought of how beautiful it was, and was sad that I'd never be able to play something that beautiful. Now, after buying a keyboard last year and writing my own songs, I've built my skills enough to tackle this piece. I've gotten as far as 2:03 and am ready to take on the hardest part. The middle section seems impossible but I know it is, just have to go step by step

Estou me esforçando.

GUYS IM HALFWAY DONE WITH THIS MASTERPIECE!!!! (I'm preparing it for someone very important and special to me) Edit: It is done....I have finally learned the full piece. I wanna cry 😭😭❤❤ Edit, June 9, 2020: so I DID prepare it for someone special, but she just doesn't seem interested. (If you understand what i mean) However, I'm still glad that I could learn how to play this :) For those who want to learn how to play this beautiful piece or are currently learning it, dont give up :) I'll tell you a story...my story. So when I was in the 11th grade of high school, I LITERALLY had no friends. And I'm not even joking or exaggerating. I would always look at everyone with their buddies and friends. I never really paid much attention to band kids or music classes. And I wasn't even interested in music back then...not even a little bit. Sometime later, I started homeschool. When I was about 8 yrs old my father bought me a Casio WK-110 keyboard (61 keys) for my birthday. I didn't really know what I was doing on it, since I was just hitting keys and playing the pre-recorded songs (thinking that I was actually playing well when I wasn't doing anything lol) anyway, a couple weeks later, I lost interest in that keyboard because I realized I was never good at playing music. For 9 years I didn't touch that keyboard. And as I was saying....when I started homeschool, I had more time to do other stuff throughout my days. But one day, I was watching a KZbin video (I can't remember what video it was) and that's when I heard Beethoven's famous Moonlight Sonata 1st movement. On that day, i didn't know what that piece was actually called, or who Beethoven even was. So after some research on Moonlight sonata, I looked at my old keyboard that was waiting for me for 9 years. I plugged it up, and started navigating through the settings and some cool features it has. And to my surprise, it had Moonlight Sonata 1st movement (Beginners version) pre-recorded AND a tutorial on how to play it. I instantly started practicing until I knew how to play it (btw I'm self taught). I looked up more Beethoven pieces. And found SO many beautiful and amazing pieces that I've never heard. That's when I started digging for Classical Music. I found many magnificent composers like, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Chopin, And Beethoven of course. But one night, I found Rousseau's channel. And I started looking at some of his videos....until I saw the beautiful, extraordinary, magnificent, Clair De Lune. I fell in love with it after I heard it. I was intrigued by Debussy. When I saw Rousseau's video on Clair De Lune I said to myself, "Why are the most amazing pieces so hard to play? I'll NEVER be able to play this, EVER. This is way above my level."......But that's when a girl moved over to my area. She's so beautiful and has an amazing personality. Then I said "If one day i give her a gift, i want to give her a gift in which i show how much i care for her." (A couple weeks later I saved up enough money for a full 88 keyboard), i was DETERMINED to learn how to play Clair De Lune. I started practicing, and practicing, and practicing. Every day for 9 months, 3 hours a day. But everytime I would practice, I would always have her in my mind for motivation. I was halfway through it when I posted my first comment 5 months ago. Now you know who I was preparing it for. Finally a month later, I successfully learned the full piece, with hard work and sweat. I was ready to play for the girl. Until- some other guy came into her life. She seemed really into him. At another couple's wedding....I just stood and watched as they danced, and talked and laughed. Then I decided to leave without saying bye to any guests. I was really sad, angry, jealous, but deep down....I was also happy for her. Because she was happy to have met someone who could be good for her. I let them be, and until this day, they still may be together. But one day as I was playing Clair De Lune, I realized, that this piece is the perfect piece for my life. Just like Clair De Lune, my relationship with her started off slow and steady, then I noticed that she was talking with someone else, I grew upset, jealous. But just like the ending of the piece, I accepted her happiness being with someone suitable for her. Now, everytime I play this piece, I'll always have her in my head. And that's why I love this piece, and why my practice, wasn't really a waste. I didn't write this ENTIRE story for attention. I'm doing it for those who have a goal and fail everytime. Keep going. Who knows what's waiting for you at the finish line. Maybe a great reward...or another chapter to be unfolded. It all depends on how you take control. I know your a stranger, and I'm a stranger as well. But I care even if I don't know you. Trust me. When you get to that finish line, and look behind you, you'll say "It was worth it". Thank you for your time.Keep going❤ Edit, September 21st, 2020: I just want to take this time and say Thank You to everyone who has given me positive feedback. (yes, I read your comments and I like them😄) Also for those who have commented about how this piece (or any other piece) can or has influenced you in any good way... BEAUTIFUL🤍🖤👏 This is one of the many beauties of music...to connect with others and share experiences. HATS OFF TO ALL OF YOU🎩🤝👏🧡
