@cristinabb9956 Жыл бұрын
@@lostamonglocals5382 you don t have to eat organs if you don t like it..try a cold platter..or a hot one in a Romanian traditional restaurant. We eat organs very seldom..i would guess liver is the most popular beef or chicken..and you should know it is great source of iron for your body. Tripe soup is something rarely made at home on some occasions, mostly eaten out. These fancy organ dishes are not an everday dish for anybody here.

Also we have a lot of vegetarian dishes and fish dishes mostly to local areas with lakes and rivers...again we prefer the Romanian fish to the the one from import which is full of crap and metals.

Regarding the Black Church , you might have have noticed many rugs hanging .These rugs were gifts from the merchants trading goods in Turkiye during the 15th - 16th Century . Anytime returning to Brasov the merchants were donating the Church these rugs , partly avoiding paying taxes or for religion reasons .Nowadays these rugs worth a fortune and Turkiye was willing to buy them back and have them exposed in the Istanbul Museum of History .The Municipality of Brasov , politely has declined this request...

Do you think it would still be hard to be vegan there? I remember mainly eating chips 8 years ago 😂
@lostamonglocals5382 Жыл бұрын
Hmm, that's a good question. There are a few vegan cafes in Brasov, and I feel like I saw one or two in Sibiu, but I can't say it's something I pay too much attention to.I would imagine it would be much easier than 8 years ago, but still a stretch in certain areas.
@cristinac196 Жыл бұрын
I know it's a late reply, but I would say you ate chips because you didn't know how to ask :P Just ask for "de post" - it means for fasting. Romania is mostly Eastern Orthodox, and the Eastern Orthodox fasts are long and vegan. So there have been some vegan options developed throughout the years, and some of them, mostly spreads, are very popular and rather easily found in restaurants - like eggplant salad, zacusca or smashed beans. There is also ciorba de legume ( sour vegetables soup) and peas stew (I think it sometimes has meat, but usually it doesn't, I would say it's safer to ask). You can also ask for sarmale de post - they are sarmale without meat, sometimes they replace the meat with mushrooms or it's just the rice and other veggies, you can mostly find those in supermarkets (not all have them, but some do). Those are just some of the more popular and easy to find things that come to mind now. In any case, if you ask for "mancare de post" (fasting food), people might be able to recommend more options :)

@@adrianmaierus8917 You're right. We should have asked them to turn it down. We always feel weird about things like that. As far as eating with our hands, it's fairly common to pick up a small bite- sized appetizer and piece of bread with your hand, especially if you're showing the camera what you're eating. We don't eat personally eat with our hands a lot, but there are many cultures all over the world that do. It's just a preference.

Regarding eating strage parts of an animal. I remember when i was a kid we raised pigs.. From 1 entire animal nothing was wasted..I think it has to do a lot with the connection you make with an animal as a farmer...You raise it and if you slaughter it there is some kind of respect in the background of not wasting anything...Some dishes are good some are so so...the important thing is not to waste anything....

We find that to be true in most places. The local dishes are considered normal and made for the masses, so they are cheaper. Food from other countries is a delicacy and usually costs more. There are exceptions, but we find it to be pretty common.
