Alan Freemans presentational style was way ahead of its time. In the pre pirate era his Sunday 'Pick of the Pops' was the only place on radio where you could hear the chart rundown presented in non BBC style. (Formal & stuffy !) Even in the 1970s he was still ahead of the game with his Saturday afternoon rock programme on Radio One. A true groundbreaker.

@Jeremy Preece I remember hearing Blackburn admit when he first took over the show, the countdown was the one part he dreaded and he practiced over and over numerous times until eventually he began to grasp it. Fluff made it all flow so effortlessly and anyone taking over his show had a hell of a lot to live up to. I admired Blackburn for having the honesty to admit that though.

TB can still interact with the listeners and his shows have that feel good factor. POTP rarely do 1960's and never cover 1950's these days. I like this type of radio to be fun, and I think that the present incumbent is too serious.
