The Brassia Eternal Wind is a sympodial epiphyte orchid hybrid. It was registered in 1993 M. Sato and is a cross between Brassia Bracdiana and Brassia Rex. This orchid is special because of its large, spidery flowers and sometimes impressive bloom count.
Blooms have a spidery shape, with long thin petals and an elongated broader lip. The petals are a lime yellow color with dark brown blotches. The lip is broader and has the same lime yellow color, but presents smaller dark brown dots. The lower sepals have fewer brown spots than the ones above.
The flowers have moderately strong fragrance that is spicy and sweet at the same time. The fragrance can be sensed in the early hours of the morning throughout the day until the afternoon. At night this orchid has no more fragrance
The pseudobulbs are about 7-8 cm in height and about 4-6 cm in width, with an oval shape. The normal color for this orchid is medium green. The leaves are long and slender, measuring about 30-35 cm in length and about 2-3 cm in width. The leaves are prone to obtain accordion shape growth if the orchid is kept too dry and in too low humidity.
Propagation of this orchid can be done through division, each division should have at least 3 fully grown pseudobulbs for a fast growth further on.

Beautiful. I have the Brascidostele Gilded Tower myself also in full bloom right now and i have pollinated 2 of the flowers. Looks like seed pods have started to form. Fingers crossed. I'll still get round to doing a slide show or something of my collection, just been bit caught up with work. Bought some new flasks today also and i might just make a instructional video on de-flasking.

How many orchid plants do you have? They all look so healthy and from what i've seen, you have an amazing collection. . A lot of mine i got in poor shape but the are looking a lot better. There is a small orchid farmer close to me and he uses the wrong potting media for all his plants using macadamia nut shells instead of bark chips. This is not good at all as the shells form little bowls that traps water. Roots suffer, plant suffers. I try and save as many as i can from there and repot them as soon as i get them haha

My brassia pseudobulbs have no leaves. Only the new growth has leaves but the 5 back bulbs do not. Should I divide it? The roots of the newest growth are in the air not the bark. What do I do about those?

This is beautiful!!! Have to get me one. Love the exotic look. Thank you for sharing this. QQ- Where do you get the plastic hangers for your plants? I can't find them anywhere, I only find the metal ones, which I don't really like.
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 9 жыл бұрын
Charlie B Thanks :D I get them from a sort of a dollar store, cheap plastic hangers usually are found in stores like this around here, so this depends on your region.

The flowers are beautiful!!! Now I'm confused because the bulbs and leaves of this plant look like an Oncidium. Can you do a video comparing the two plants so I can understand how to ID them. Thanks :)
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 9 жыл бұрын
rmcandlelight it's hard to ID based only on psb, oncidiums have so many shapes and dimensions that it is very hard to tell, brassias usually have taller psb, this one is egg shaped. I myself cannot tell them appart sometimes, the Oncidium familly is a big one ;)

Hi Danny! Love your channel. I´ve learned so many things. Keep up :). I´ve got a question. The little black spots in the leaves are from spider mites or are is it natural? Thanks

Hi Danni. My brassia looks a bit like yours. And the smell, it's some kind of chemical smell I thin. It's a disturbing smell. But, I can't resist sticking my nose in it. And now when it finished blooming, I miss it. Isn't that strange. O, by the way. My five blooming spikes, suddenly dried up and died. Two weeks bloming. Don't understand why. Best wishes. Bo

So so beatiful, breathtaking! I looked at your ID sheet for this one Dani and what stunned me even more than the look at your video is the measure of flowers - 25 cm, wow. I was looking pictures on the internet of this Brassia variety and seems to me there is quite a difference between them - some have longer and some shorter flower sepals and they all go under the same name B.Eternal Wind "Summer Dream". So I`m bit confused? I would like to get myself one with this looong petals. Do you know the exact name of yours or have some advice how to be sure to get long petal variety?
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 9 жыл бұрын
Jasmina B Hi, unfortunately I don't know the cultivar name, but these names don't always mean something, sometimes they are given by vendors. All I can tell you is that this Brassia produced less impressive blooms last year, so the better the care, the better the blooms :) the blooms this year are also a bit curly, last year they weren't quite like this, so it really depends on external factors as well.

I wish my oncidiums Orchids 1 is a Brassia would bloom, I have 6 of them and haven't seen any flowers yet as all had bloomed Prior to purchase, Maybe I'm doing something wrong They get plenty of light and are watered and fertilised regularly, But so far not even the sign of a spike, But they all have new leaves, is there anyway to encourage new blooms? :-)
@douglasalan7786
@douglasalan7786 9 жыл бұрын
Rosemary457 Let them dry a little bit between waterings. It takes a little shock to kick them off sometimes. March in the dry season in Central America. Same for the Cattleya species.That's after several weeks of dry and some serious hot sunlight.

Douglas Alan Thank you, I'll give it a try. :-)

Rosemary457 well it depends what you mean by they never bloom :) if you purchased them a few months ago it's pretty normal, each psb can take about 9 months to mature, then it can wait about 2-3 months before deciding to bloom.. so in about one year to one year and a half they should bloom, if they don't have multiple growth directions. If they were also slightly sick, the new psb produced might be smaller and might not bloom so, there we go 2 years of no blooms :P just depends on the individual and the amount of patience you have.

MissOrchidGirl Oh, Ok, just that the seller said that they had Just finished blooming and would bloom again once they settle into there new home, I assume that meant they would bloom again this year, Thanks again Danni I knew I could rely on you, As always, Oh well at least my nobile berry oda has flowered again yippee, And my little keike's are doing well potted up, :-)
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 9 жыл бұрын
Rosemary457 when in doubt, just google the orchid about its bloom season or pattern of growth, just to eliminate this cause and then try to figure out if there is something wrong in your environment. Some orchids really don;t bloom all the time :)

Hi Danny! I have a question - One day I was at my gardening center and what I saw was pretty strange. You see, I saw 20 phals that were excatly the same in size, flower color and spike height, but one thing was odd - one of those identical phals had round leaves, not long and oval-shaped. The leaves were perfectly round. What causes that? Why some identical phals have long and oval shaped leaves and one has perfectly round and very, very, very thick and hard leaves? Leaves are hard like plastic. . . and flowers flowers look like this (the flowers in the image are similar to one I found, the petals of the one I got are very pointy and looks like species phal) : www.google.lt/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1280&bih=899&q=yellow+phalaenopsis+with+red+stips+and+red+middle&oq=yellow+phalaenopsis+with+red+stips+and+red+middle&gs_l=img.3...1199.13886.0.14004.49.18.0.31.31.3.478.2396.0j4j2j1j2.9.0....0...1ac.1.64.img..39.10.1200.pZhC3RAHzRc#hl=en&tbm=isch&q=yellow+phalaenopsis+with+red+stripes&imgrc=KDVti4EuphdjhM%3A and the scent resembles sweet peperment scent. . .

Vytautas Poška it's all about genetics :) you know that sometimes even twins can look different? that's how plants work too, from the same seed pod you might get different looking orchids. Some can take more genes from one parent than others. The orchid you found might have just been that sort of orchid. Mutations always happen in nature, it allows for evolution in some cases ;)
