To avoid all those Black Spots, it's better to plant it in a green house (that's also a breeding ground for Spidermites) which most of us cannot have. Having more than 20 plants, we will not have the time to treat everyone of it. So by end of the day is to have a few plants that we can afford to take care off. Unlike Danny that is a full timer in planting orchids??....😅

I have a keiki that broke of without hurting itself but it was tiny, it only has a one, about 2 cm leaf pushed out and one it already had of about 5cm in length, sadly it was put into the sun from whom I received it and now the 5cm leave is cut in half because it was burned from the sun and the surface of the remaining half leaf is textured, like when the sunburn begins and the 2 cm leaf is normal. It began to push out roots but they are thin like roots from a cattleya orchid and not only that but they stopped almost completely to grow, I see little nips of new roots coming but I wait now almost 3 weeks and they also seem to doesn't wanna grow more. What should I do now? It only had one root of 10 cm long, when it broke of. I saw today that a part of that root is gone bad. Could it be that it doesn't have more energy to give so now it's giving completely up? The other 2 keikis from the exact same mother plant are doing great, they were left on till they had 2 pair of leaves and multiple roots of about 5-19cm. They are pushing out new roots and they what were already pushed out are growing nicely and thick, without going bad. I don't understand why the first one struggles so much, I have it in the same place as the other 2 who are doing great.

I’ve really struggled with my two phalaenop orchids. I’ve never been able to get them to bloom. They are 2 years old and almost 4 years old. I’ve tried different food. I’ve tried different medium. Lately they have been growing Air roots and leaves and nothing else. Is this fine?

Understanding that roots are constantly growing and dying, what causes aerial roots to dry up? It that their normal end, or did they dry up because they aren’t getting watered or are getting too much light? It’s a selfish thing I want to prevent as they are so much prettier with healthy plump green aerial roots 😊

Here in the States at Lowe's and Home Depot, I have found 5" orchid pots that I am in love with. They are very heavy-duty, clear as glass, in an acrylic type material. I love being able to clearly see inside. The holes are oval and angled downward so that as the roots come out, the edges are not as sharp. The holes are also large enough to push most of the roots back through without much damage. I am slowly changing all of my nearly 100 phalaenopsis over to them. They've been a real gamechanger! ❤

I bought a new phalaenopsis and it came in regular potting soil, it was mostly peatmoss, the roots were broken and affected by the soil medium. I repotted it in sphagnum moss and bark chips, it didn't take more than a week for the bark chips to grow mold. What should i do i already repotted it 3 time in the last 2 weeks

My question is: What if I buy a 5 flower spike normal white with yellow middle phal, will it rebloom the year after with 5 flower spikes? What I mean, why do I buy a phal who has in that moment 5 flower spikes with flowers, for then the year after only having two? Why then exist they?

Danny, I have tried unsuccessfully to find some of the "basket/wire frames" you sometimes use to support the long leaves of oncidiums, etc. I can't find them, and don't even know what to call them when I do a search. Can you make any suggestion about where they can be located, particularly in the US if possible.

My miniature orchid has only had 2 leaves with no center growth for over a year... and now those leaves are starting to yellow and die at the end. Don't think patience is going to work. Maybe if I cut it off altogether? (and in spite of this situation I noticed it is sending out bud stalks with buds again!... it is a little bloomer if nothing else!!!)

They had only the big transparent pots and after telling them that I don't find anywhere the medium size, they brought and the medium size. So have it in mind that they sell transparent pots for orchids in Nicosia.

Great video, thanks. If the aerial roots aren’t super long, I try to coax them into the pot when it’s time to repot but if I can’t do that due to their length, I just leave them to grow as they want outside. It has worked for me so far 🤞I decided on this based on another of your videos that talked about aerial roots as an orchid’s backup plan for roots rotting in the pot. Why not get some aerial roots used to growing in the pot with other good roots when repotting instead of having to deal with aerial roots having to acclimate quickly when the orchid is stressed because of root dieback??? Am I off target with my approach?

I love the look of the roots growing outside the pot. That's very appealing to me. It is part of what makes orchids so interesting to grow. You never know what to expect.

For phalaenopsis orchids, soak medium then let it dry completely. It is handy to grow roots in clear pots to see how dry they are. Water only when dry. Think of environment the grow in in the wild. ❤😊

Could milder weather make your orchids start sprouting flower spikes this time of year? I have four Phalaenopsis orchids all in spaghnum moss sitting in a south window. One had a dried out flower spike two months ago which I cut back. The other three plants all were finished flowering and all flowers fell off. Suddenly now each pot is producing a new flower spikes..some have two! What could be going on in November? I'm totally confused!!

I have a question.... What should I do when I repoted Mine half a year ago but now I can see some roted roots, what should I do?
@larissasheret73313 күн бұрын
Repot again and cut away those roots. Your orchid likely got root shock when you repotted it. This happens when several roots break and/or there is a sudden change in how much humidity is around the roots when you repot. Its also possible that you have been watering too much. Consider downsizing your pot and/or changing the type of medium you are using :)
@alicenataliamariailarda90462 күн бұрын
@larissasheret7331 thank you but this particular one had nothing, I bought it a half a year ago and needed to upsize the pot because it had so so much roots, it could barely hold itself in in the 12cm pot. So I repotted, all the Buds opened, on 3 stems I head 33 flowers, she is a big big girl and now, obviously after half a year of blooming the blooms began to fall off. So I cut all the stems away, didn't repot since I did it 6 months ago and now I'm seeing those roots, since the stem cutting, before that, she was happy as a orchid can be.
@alicenataliamariailarda90462 күн бұрын
@@larissasheret7331 and also my question is, if I repot now and cut away those roots but I see in one month again roted roots, should I them repot again?
@Stumpybear76402 күн бұрын
Imo if your orchid has a lot of healthy roots, and she is sturdy, repot away. Cut with sterile scissors. Cut into the bad bit, not into good roots. Rotten roots can spoil your potting mix. ❤

Hi, I really enjoy your channel and all the information you provide about orchids. I have been following you and growing orchids for about 3 years and need to repot some or them. I live in the US Pacific Northwest and water about once a week. Some are currently in moss and some in a bark mixture and both seem to be doing great. When going to the report store, I noticed they have several types of potting medium, do you have a specific type you like?

An ecologist? Was that the word you were looking for? I work as a botanist/ecologist where I explore places to document and study the flora and fauna. Those who specialise in insects are entomologists and even more specifically for butterflies are lepidopterists. Maybe you have a new calling 😊 the Lime Butterfly reminded me so much of the Chequered Swallowtail native to Australia. When I looked it up, turns out it’s the same species but is invasive everywhere but Australia and Asia 🤯 so cool knowing your video is the same species. Gotta love learning new stuff

Daylight Savings OM😢. I loathe it! Thank you for sharing the Jairaks etc. The easy Cattleya bloomers. I’m a bit crazy but I bought a Blc Ruby Copper Queen “Ruby Lip” a Richard Mueller x Toshie Aoki. Its pot is an okay size pot, should bloom soon! But it’s (very hard packed) stuffed full of spagna moss that is also green on sides and top. 🙄 I very gently with Twizzers removed some top spagna the roots look good, I put some new spagna on the top. No new roots under the new bulb. The Question: How on earth 😂 do I figure out when to water it?
