Since this old video there has been a major update back in June 2023. The machine is much better after the update and this machine is incredible now. I have been very successful with it and I recommend it to everybody. As far as the 2D graph goes it's just another piece of information that I use but honestly my style of detecting is mostly auditory and I don't spend a lot of time looking at the machine, more like critical listening. And this is how I detect with all machines from all manufacturers. I try to focus hard on the tones and the information within. Thank you for watching the video and for your question!

There is no need to continually apologize for environmental sounds...believe it or not, some people find the sound of your river, or the sound of waves at the shoreline to be comforting. (No need to apologize for aircraft either...you have no control over these phenomenon, therefore you have nothing to apologize for.) Your videos while being very helpful, informative and educational, they are very much soul food for us that are not able to get out...now, back to the vid!!

Thank you, I really need these kind of comments so I can get better at making videos!!! Much appreciated! I know the feeling of the not being able to get out and when I'm sick in bed or weather keeps me indoors, I do the same, just watch videos! I also personally like seeing the adventure of a detecting trip and the scenery, instead of dig to dig style so I am trying to put some nice shots of the beautiful places I get to go detecting so I can share with others what I am seeing. Informative, but why no explanation of the Prospecting audio? I accidentally had it set this way for a long period and decided that I loved it (in ATHC), so I still use it. Also, I don’t quite understand the turning up of threshold or why I would want to hear that. Nobody has effectively explained this to me yet. I already listen to a lot of iron (horseshoe is always on for me), but I turn my ferrous volume down nice and low so that it isn’t bothersome to me. I must be about 500 hours on this machine now. Found some great stuff too! (1794 Liberty Cap in beautiful shape is my top so far!). Keep the videos coming!

I have taken the machine Down To The River Edge and prospected in the rocks where other machines like the gold Monster 1000 new very well and I had a lot of noise and fahlsing with my manticore but out of fairness that was well using the 11 inch coil with the new M9 ( round) or the M8 (elliptical) the machine could behave completely differently I need to test that again! Thank you for your view and for bringing up this great question and your comment!

All terrain fast should be called Simplex mode- that thing went from smooth as silk to an annoying Chatterbox! I doubt I will be using this mode very much on my manticore. Seriously, I would wrap this thing around a tree if I had to listen to that. There has to be a way to settle it down in that mode. You mentioned only digging the absolute bangers. What clues you in to a signal being something that you just have to dig?
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 5 ай бұрын
I see you asked this question in a couple different ways on two different videos. This is a very tough question to answer over the internet, much easier to explain one on one in the field during training. It has everything to do with critical listening and hours of usage where you learn the tones. Junk and iron is choppy and broken sounding whereas desirable conductive targets give a much more detailed and full tone, this all happens so fast it's incredible that our ears can listen that accurately and that fast as to size up every tone. In training I use two headphones connected to one machine and explain everything I am hearing and thinking, I go back and reinvestigate signals often as I go and when it repeats is when I do a 90 degree turn and listen again to make a dig, no dig decision. You can watch this video where I think I talk about the amount of tones and the wiggle you need to master. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioilqox7jqmmpJYsi=8pGwJOZEMC745vnU It's not on the Manticore but it's applicable to most all Minelab VLF detectors. Thank you for the view and great question. For more info you're welcome to email me at the email that is in the description of all of my videos. Thanks again!

Really like your videos. I did some more research on the Manticore and decided to try adapting to the sounds. I figured there’s no way everyone raving about minelabs products could be crazy. I used my TDI last night on a trashy beach and remembered why I want a discriminating machine. Im going to keep the equinox 800 for now but i did preorder a Manticore hoping for more depth and better vdi stability.

Thanks for taking the time to make these informative videos. Im curious about the saved program feature on the Manticore. How the save program system is set up and how to save a program. Thanks
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jerry, great question! So each mode has it's own local settings associated with it. These include the tone profile, audio theme, operating frequencies and the discrimination pattern. So any changes you make to any user mode is saved when the machine is shut off and therefore still remain the next time you turn it on. Some settings are not local to user modes and are global settings. These include the volume, sensitivity, noise cancel frequency, ground balance and of course lighting and handle vibration. No need to save a program because it happens automatically. Many of the settings have a sub menu with a "Reset" feature allowing you to reset the factory settings without having to do a full machine factory reset. VERY nice feature! Thanks for the view and questions!

Wife and I have run CTX 3030s since release, overs 10 years. I have been holding out year after year hoping for a CTX 2.0. Yesterday I pulled the trigger on one Manticore to try out. If we like it, we will purchase another. Having extensive time with CTX yourself, do you think it’s an upgrade or a lateral move? Your videos are fantastic, super detailed and helpful. Thank You!!
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 10 ай бұрын
Thank you for the view, the comment and your kinds words! Yes so I too was waiting for the CTX 2.0, Until I spent a weekend with the Minelab engineers and realized the stark reality that the circuit in the CTX was too dated and using analog technologies that are no longer used. At best we might be able to get some CTX or Explorer like legacy tones in the new, very powerful polyphonic synth audio engines on the Manticore or our next flagship machine. I did some very serious Head to Head comparisons with the CTX versus the Manticore. Once I got the M8 coil and compared it to the 6" round on the CTX 3030, I found the Manticore to be much better with target separation. I am at the point now with the M8 bolted on and the June 2023 update installed, the Manticore is really sorted now and I no longer feel like I have to bring my CTX 3030 to sites. Now if I know for sure it's a virgin site that I've never been to and has never been detected I would still bring the CTX 3030 on my first trip because it's going to get the good stuff quicker and cherry pick the site. But once you get into the heavy iron and have to slow down the Manticore will do much better with the M8 coil and June 2023 update. Thanks again for taking the time to leave a comment!

Thank you much for this video. I’ve had the 800 for a couple years and I really thought something was wrong with it with as chirpy as it is around our old farmhouse. I think we have a bunch of old square nails from an old renovation that is causing much of the noise. Glad to know it’s not uncommon to have this kind of chirping. Very helpful to learn how to understand the noise and control it with the Manticore. Also helpful to learn how to zero in on the important stuff. Looking forward to seeing what I can find with the Manticore. Found an 1837 large cent with my AT Pro at this site and hoping to find more good stuff!

Coming from the gold nugget detecting side of things where the machine is typically quiet that chatter would drive me crazy. I have the Equinox 800 I haven’t used all that much. The All- Terrain high conductors mode I might be able to tolerate.

Yes, I hear you on that. I am doing an entire video on gold so I didn't want to even cover it at all in this video, it is like a completely different circuit when it's in Gold Prospecting mode so I will get that video made asap so you guys can hear it but I do believe it will end up being the best VLF gold machine on the market. The audio at these sites in this video is really crazy and most wouldn't be able to tolerate it. You don't have to run threshold or iron audio or for that matter the sensitivity cranked up so it can run way quieter than this but this was the machine on full tilt!! lol. How do you know when to dig?
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 2 жыл бұрын
I would say anything that is repeatable and still repeats on a 90 degree turn and has 2D graph painting below the grey bars is a definite dig. Especially is the VDI numbers are pretty consistent. Everything else is an iffy signal and is taking a chance but some of my best finds ever were iffy signals that I decided to dig. In this particular video there are many signals I would have dug but I was focused more on letting you hear the sounds. Thanks for the view and comment!

Very sparky! Can the noise cancel channels be manually changed? The 3030 is just like this in San Francisco but I manually changed the noise cancel frequency and found a channel that calmed her down more than the automatic cancel.. This for me, eliminated a lot of the falsing and chatter and it still hit 12" targets!

Yes it can Kevin. Better still though, if you have noise cancel as one of your keypad soft keys, a long press will start a continuous noise cancel and choose the best of a few channels. Release when it settles. Recommended to noise cancel each time you change search modes or sensitivity. Very handy set as a soft key.

I don't "run" GB at 0 ... I always grab the ground, in clean ground before each session. Although we have some of the most mineralized ground on the planet here in California, the machine rarely goes above 20 here and often around 10. Many areas are close to 0. Like you and everybody else..... I listen to the machine and when it starts to whine and cry a little bit, I re-grab the ground to settle it down. Thank you for your view and comment!

I bough an equinox 800 a day before the release of the newer machines. Im really disappointed with the audio that minelab uses. I can’t believe people like the sounds is produces. It sounds like a machine with the sensitivity set too high and nothing gives a hard hit. Im constantly struggling to decide wether or not to dig. Good targets sound to hollow and insignificant. I couldn’t finish watching the beginning of your video. What horrible noise. I thought the Manticore would have refined sounds. It sound like an AT Pro full bore in saltwater 🤮
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 2 жыл бұрын
I understand both your comment about buying the 800 right before the 900 came out as well as your complaints about the sounds. Don't be too discouraged though because when you swing the Manticore right over a coin or a high conductor it does sound amazing. It's just the bombardment of noise and chatter coming in from all of the iron in my sites that can drive you mad. In a park away from a trashy area or in the relic fields outside of the iron, I am sure it's a whole lot better. Thanks again for the view and comment!

I wonder if it would still do that after the June 2023 update? The whole premise and strategy of that update was to eliminate nail falsing. Our square nails here in California are very high conductivity, the circuit sees more conductivity than it does ferrous on our square nails (because the steel used was high carbon and heated to extreme temps by the blacksmith then pounded resulting in a very tight molecular structure of the steel). All machines suffer here and no machine is exempt. Best machine around these nails has always been the Minelab CTX-3030 rarely ever detects them but doesn't perform as well as Equinox, Manticore, Deus II or Legend in target seperation. I know your being sarcastic and we're triggered enough to make the comment but I believe the update really brought the Manticore to the point now where it is about equal in the amount of nails dug to other manufacturers. This video is pre-update. Thanks for checking out the video and for leaving a comment. Happy Holidays!
