Rocky, 4 year old bull terrier, is in for a 3 week board and train to clean up a few...undesirable behaviors which include; deconstruction of furniture, adult relations with said furniture, biting owners over handling, growly back talk, over excitement, leash reactivity to dogs...and a few more.

Just get William Kohler's book on basic obedience and fallow it. I have stopped very large dogs from pulling in just a few minutes with his methods. In ten minutes I have let peoples kids walk a dog with out him pulling. And the best part is it's all the dogs own idea to not pull. Mr. Kohler trained dogs for military, police and even Disney. If you have seen "It's a Dogs Life" he trained the dogs for that movie.

I would give anything for my Bully to walk ahead of me. He literally refuses to walk anywhere except into PetSmart. When we go to leave, he sits down or lays down on his side. He literally refuses to walk back to the truck. He started doing it on our street when we'd go for a walk and figured maybe something spooked him or he's just being overloaded with input from smells and sounds etc. . but his tail isn't tucked. I really believe he's just stubborn and doesn't want to walk just for the sake of walking, especially after him walking into PetSmart (which we frequent for training) but refusing to walk out. Will this prong collar work in reverse? That is will it coax him to walk when I put just a slight bit of pressure on it? I've tried, easy-walk harness, regular harness, slip lead, martingale and I end up holding slight pressure on it hoping he'll start moving again, but it's frustrating never-ending process. Oh, and treats only work as far as the leash is long. He's gonna way 90# if I have to treat him around the block.

Ok, im REALLY not trying to be a jerk about this, but sometimes the truth can be hard to hear... This is why you dont buy a dog solely based on their looks.while lots of people buy them for their unique appearance, and their gigantic personality, without getting to know either the breed as a whole, what it generally means to be a bull terrier owner, or the individual needs of your dog. They are just " too much dog" for 99% of " dog owners" out there. They are differnt than other breeds. They are not like labs, sheepdogs, or poodles. Even a " mellow" bull terrier makes the wildest pitbull seem " easy" .To directly answer your question, you need to learn how to handle your dog. Plain and simple. It sounds like most of the work is on the handlers side. If there is not a rescue in your area that SPECIFICALLY deals with bull terriers, the best advice is to find a one on one obedience trainet that is at MINIMUM familliar with them, and invest a lot of time learning what the dog needs from you. Youre not going to find a " miracle trick" to remedy this situation. DEFFINATLY not in a short youtube video. If you cant commit to what you need to do, it might just be time to admit that this breed is beyond your ability to own, and if you are this frustrated with the situation, the dog is as well... Probably more so.

@@crvenazvezda1175 tough call, but it CAN matter. Is the dog from a reputable breeder. One that cares about the animal more than how much they can charge for pups? Or just somebody that wants to make money, pumping out puppies and not giving a crap about anything as long as the check clears? Or is it from a rescue, where they ( should ) identify these issues and work with fosters to mitigate them, and help new owners as much as they can? Or, and this is sadly the most likely; is it just someone that likes the way they look, and wants to buy one, only to have to give the dog up due to their lack of education on what it takes to be a bull terrier owner & How to deal with their big personalities. Ive been working with the exclusively bull terrier rescue here in AZ for well over 10 years and ive seen just about every type of new owner. From the little old lady that wants a target dog( because thats her favorite store! ... Uggh) to people that think they are good " fighting dogs" and peoole that want to feed them pot brownies like they did in the movie friday. But the one thing ive seen the most is people that want a fashion accessory to show off with that dont know what they are getting into. And what comes in the least; as sad as it is is a person that genuinely loves the breed, knows what it takes to keep them, and keep them happy and well behaved( that last one is relative, but non destructive, and non agressive to people or other dogs is generally accepted as a good bull terrier). If i had to guess, id think they just want some info on where to acquire one. Which is a good sign if they cant. That means they live in a place that has a bull terrier rescue that keeps them out of other rescues, and the pound, so someone that knows the breed can help get it into a good home.
