Fanzines really blew up in the late 60s, early 70s with the rise of Star Trek (particularly Spirk shippers) and I think that’s beautiful 😂

Hi Bre, amazing content as always. Not sure if you have mentioned this before but do you have any resources you can point us in the direction of that cover the history of zines?

A lot of zine history posted online is a bit infactual as they state they started in the 1930s but they were around as early as 1917, so I used my college’s search engines to do my own research to learn more about zines. I suggest this if you’re in college because you get access to a lot of thesis/studies made by students covering zines, and journals with expansive research done on the medium. If this is not available for you bc you’re not a student, I’d look into some library websites that publish blogs about zines. Book Riot also has some great articles about zine history that a lot of other websites don’t cover 👇🏽 bookriot.com/harlem-renaissance-little-magazines

this is so helpful for me atm! i’ve never made a zine and wanted to make a fanzine with any earnings going to the charity of the person in focus of the zine. i was worrying about using images of him even though i wanted to make a collage with one for the cover. do you know if that would be okay to do? Aww that’s sweet of you! I’d say it’s okay to use their images, but also watch this video about zines and the law if you haven’t already 👇🏽 The Zine Maker’s Guide to Copyright kzbin.info/www/bejne/boS0dqSnbNGNps0 it may help you decide on what’s the best decision for you, but usually it’s not that big of a deal to use someone’s image. But it’s ultimately up to you and what you feel comfortable with. hope you have fun making your zine!!
