I grew up using a Norelco 400 series. I switched to this Series 3 and I was very disappointed. It irritated my skin during shaves, so I went back to the rotary. I decided to try a Braun Series 5, and I was blown away by the better shave and less irritation.

As you say, when used purely as an electric/dry shave, the comfort level is ok but nothing special; I've yet to use it as a wet shaver, but, when I do, expect it to be more comfortable than the dry shave. Thanks for the review.
@MrBazReviews2 жыл бұрын
I think it's partly the motor speed, quite aggressive and loud - it's not bad dry but not great. I think the Philips is more comfortable. Both are decent for a wet shave though, I find myself using the Philips perhaps a bit more. Maybe higher priced Braun shaver are more "refined".

At that price it's not a bad buy at all. It's alright, for the neck area vary the angles and direction that helps quite a lot. I think the rotary shavers do better there, this is better than past Bruan shavers I've used.

I have the straight Series 3. I'm not sure exactly what the extra $20 gets you. It was $39 and this model ^^^ $59. It's a close shave. Pretty darned close to a blade - tho it takes longer and more effort than the blade. Given the price of blades, I think it's an acceptable substitute.
@MrBazReviews Жыл бұрын
The ones below this are not from what I can see "wet/dry", so it depends how you use It! I prefer the wet option as I find the shave a bit closer
@scottmccrea1873 Жыл бұрын
@@MrBazReviews oh I agree. So far wet seems closer. I'd say it's 90% of a blade shave for me. Especially since blades are $4-6 ea and probably going higher.

@@scottmccrea1873 The whole razor blade thing is a crazy rip off, considering the cost of making them is tiny. I do still have a Wilkinson sword razor, and they are almost as bad as Gillette price wise (but not quite). Lot of marketing BS going on there too with blades/designs. I see Amazon are now doing razors too (but considerably cheaper), not tried that one. Add it up over months/years and the electric seems to be the way to go, if you need a closer shave foam up and use the electric.

@@MrBazReviews it always has been. It's a brilliant model. Cheap razor, expensive blades. I do admit the blades are fabulous. But if the per unit manufacturing cost is more than pennies I'll est my hat. Margin probably isn't as good as soda, but it's still huge.

By making the blades part of the foil assembly it's an absolute nightmare to clean since you can't reach a brush between the blades. If your water is not high pressure you are screwed. That is terrible design. Making it all one assembly also doubles the replacement costs to almost as much as the entire shaver. They did this out of pure greed making you buy both the blade and the foil as a unit even if only one is worn out. Braun also don't give a damn about difficulties cleaning it. Electric shavers are a scam akin to ink jet printers. Effectively the shaver is disposable after about a year. At least it's better than Remmington who's foils wear out after only 3 or 4 months.
@MrBazReviews6 ай бұрын
I don't disagree it would make more sense to have a foil replacement part only, other ones I used in the past had this. No doubt there are some marketing/financial reasons to this which I can't say I like much. I was thinking of trying a Remington, the Philips one is also working quite well. I prefer that overall
