That pocket clip with a third of the light sticking up out of the pocket is a deal breaker. Some of these companies under estimate how important well designed deep carry pocket clips are to users. Some get it, some don’t.

A58 was my first DSLR back in 2014, but within a year I upgraded to an A77II. This thing was plasticky, clunky and slow but I had a soft spot for it. As I recall I had to get the Multi-port Cable release which added video record options and was compatible with the A6000 and newer cameras but was expensive. I eventually sold all my A-Mount gear and went full Sony Mirrorless. BTW: Sony Discontinued the A57 in May 2013 shortly after the launch of the A58.
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews 3 күн бұрын
I can let some things slide due to the low release price, yes it's a bit cheap feeling - though it was pretty cheap at the time. In many ways the 57 is the better buy, the buffer is a real issue on the 58 and it's a problem for any action shots. 57 solves most of that and has a better LCD (but the EVF isn't great), I'd probably give the 57 the nod for a buy used now, though you can find deals on the 58. Yes the A77 II is a big upgrade in many ways, might do a video on that sometime. Thanks for your thoughts on this camera!

I have no idea why somebody would buy this cam today, as it is around $1500 on youtube, used when you can have a brand new Lumix S5II for the same price. I guess if you have f mount lenses? Still. I would settle down with a much cheaper D810, I see them with decent amount of shutter activation at around $600. Again, why buy a F mount system today for $1500??? Just by a Z5 and manual focus.
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews 7 күн бұрын
As I mention, much depends on what you want to do. Reason to get this is video and live view performance (clearly better then any F mount body), but if those are not that important there are better buys for photographers. Like you say D810 or even the D800 both great buys and you get a lot of camera for less money. To be fair Lumix has more traction for video users (less so photographers) and doesn't have a legacy mount like F mount, where there are a huge number of lenses available. You can get a Z mount body, but perhaps some people prefer an optical finder, or have screw drive AF lenses (which don't AF currently on Z mount adapter) It's a trade-off no question. The Z5 is pretty cheap and not a bad buy, but it's slow FPS and limited video features will not appeal to everyone, the sensor readout is also a lot less then this camera in live view mode and silent shutter. The closest is the Z6 II which has many of these features, does 4K 60fps in crop and is a similar if not slightly lower price. The biggest disappointment for me is Nikon did not update the firmware, and having used a Z6 and Z6 II the AF is improved on those, and the price is still too high for a model that came out nearly 5 years ago (2020). For photographers the D8xx series might be a better bet, or a D750 is also worth a look. I like the camera, but it's not as good as it could have been, Nikon clearly have held back on the D780 and that's a shame.

@@MrBazReviews Thanks for \your response. I came across another reviewer who measured current(A) capacity when new and recorded this on a sticker placed on the battery. Later, say after a couple of years, he measured A again, and it was significantly lower so he then also attached this new number to the battery. Unfortunately he didn't discuss relationships between the two numbers but it did give me an idea. If we assume that A drops in a linear relationship with battery health/capacity then it is an excellent indicator. e.g. He measured new NIMH batteries at 1.7A after being fully charged and rested for a couple of hours. He repeated this process on the same batteries after some years (in his case 10 years!!) of light/moderate use (100cycles) and got 0.8A. I wondered whether this reading means that the batteries were now less than 50% of initial Health/Capacity. What do you think of that?

There is no simple answer because different models of torches might have various spring sizes. As you have both contacts top and bottom, well it will work with some and might not work with others. Nothing bad can happen because it is protected and can't be shorted out. Nitecore have some models which run on the i series batteries.

@@MrBazReviews Hi thanks for your reply, yes there are some that run on them, but as far as I know they are all running using those i series batteries, I have the mh 25s, and have just purchased a HC70, it would be really cool if the "i" batteries work with either of those products especially the head torch. I have on order the P23in (real shame it has no proper ultra low mode) and also the SRT7i, so that will give me 2 of those types of batteries. I really like Nitecore, I bought Mum and Dad ones too, but different to ones I have, Dad has the New P30 and mum the MH10v2, they are alll working great, and none of us have had any problems with any of them. I also have quite a few of the cheaper headlights and love them all, the ultra light NU25 I recently tested out on the 60 lumen setting, it ran for a good 8hrs solid on that, the beam is so well balanced on mix for walking and hiking in the dark, if the terrain gets tricky you can kick it up to 200 lumens and the throw for its size is pretty amazing, I ordered that HC70 to use with the Nu25 just incase I ever need an very long extended run time over many days, im just testing it out now on the 500 lumen setting, it says 18 hours on the spec sheet, but I think we all know there is a step down at some point before that with the Nitecore, I do not mind those step downs unlike some, I would never want to be relying on a light and then to have it suddenly go dead with no warning, if I can get over 12 hours on the 500 with the HC70 I would be pretty happy with that to be honest as I would think if I needed to run it, I would run it on the 150 lumen setting most of the time, the throw is pretty good too, so far its looking a great light. Thanks again! Subbed BTW.

nice video, I was wondering in your opinion, what charger would be best for charging 21700 batteries, specifically with the option of discharge capacity tests? I currently have Klarus flashlights that use the 5000 mAh 21700 cells.

I assume there’s no need to dry those parts?

No need it's fully waterproof, some people keep the same cutter/foil paired, makes no difference in my experience.

Where was this one purchase from? I haven't seen any S3 "Made in Germany". Series 3-7 seem to be made in China.

As far as I am aware in Japan they don't have English language option in the cameras, I think they do it to stop grey imports. This is a Sony thing always been like this for a long time.

I just picked one of these up to learn photography. Definitely agree with your points. The 1600 max ISO makes me now understand why indoor photographers have all those lights and umbrellas. It's great and I'm having fun.

It's not a bad camera certainly good enough for many. The ISO 1600 is fine it's just it could go higher, and would probably be still acceptable for noise.

When you shoot weddings is the screw drive auto focus a issue when your in a church? I use to shoot Minolta as a kid and had this lens and I really liked it. But I shoot M43 now and have silent auto focus lens. One photographer here on KZbin said DSLR shutter noise really is not a issue the only person that really hears that hard slap is the photographer because the camera is right up on your face.

Screw drive AF sound never bothered me nor anyone else. I did note the shutter slap off the A100 or KM5D is fairly obvious, had a few looks when using those bodies. I'd say that makes more noise then the lens AF does, does vary depending on body and lens though.

@ Thank you. I kind of want to shoot A-Mount again. I really wish Sony would make a E-Mount camera but with more of a A-Mount body. I held the Sony A99 once in my hand it had a really nice grip.

@@bigrobotnewstoday1436 I agree I don't like the E mount body designs, not very comfortable and too boxy, the A mount bodies like this are much nicer to use and hold. But sadly I don't see Sony doing anything different. They kept the same boxy look for many years now.

@ There are one or two E-Mount cameras that have the A-Mount body design now that I remember. They are crop sensor cameras plastic bodies. I remember people reviewing them saying the EVF was not the best. I think Sony even said it's a Alpha design. KZbinr John Sison review look for the video called Sony a3000 Review | John Sison

It's still a decent camera if you can live with the narrow AF coverage, and are not shooting really high ISO it's competitive today in terms of dynamic range. I like a lot of things about the camera, it's perhaps priced a bit high for it's age on the used market, but if you find the right deal it might be worth a look.

Is the autofocus slow?
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews 28 күн бұрын
It's not slow perfectly fine for this type of camera, it will partly depend on the lens used too.
