The more you drag out going to the vet, the more the dog will drag out going to the vet. They can sense your hesitation. Give them constant support, lots of cuddles before and after, make the experience as positive as possible. It's for their own good.

It seems to be a recurring theme. The vets should realise this and change their ways. Animals know what is not right. I took my dog to three vets - one after the other - and settled on the final one. Reason: because his practice was not 'clinical' - all white tiles, metal cages/bath tubs and slippery floors. He had a 'living room' type appearance, where pets could lay down on the sofa and he spent time with the animals in the waiting room before they walked with him into the 'clinical' area. He didn't stick things in him, or force bitter tablets down his throat. And all the 'cages' were comfortable rooms with their own bedding and bowls. There were low glass doors between the rooms too, so the animals could interact with each other. Nothing scary about that place. They are expected to be parted from the person they trust and be led away by a stranger who sticks things in them or washes them down in metal boxes... no wonder they don't like it. The whole experience is designed to suit the person, not the animal. Time to change things.

I took the family rescue, a chiweenie to her first vetting after being adopted and she made so much noise then would not get in the car with me for a week! She held a grudge.

They shout or cry maybe because they think they will be killed, and there is nothing to laugh about them, after all we can be afraid too of the dentist, the doctor..
