UFO Robo Grendizer, _the_ anime that started the craze about manga and Japanese animation here in France, in the late 70s. Still a beloved classic 45 years later, with multiple reruns on French television even to this day. Thank you so much for your excellent review.
the Duke Freed appearing and disappearing between the two cockpits is kinda a neat trick.

Fun fact: his name is actually Duke Fried, not "Fleed". It was confirmed by Gô Nagai in an artbook in which he said that it was a reference to Siegfried, the hero of Norse/Germanic mythology. The -fried part of the name derives from der Friede, which means "peace" in German. Basically, Duke Fried is a refugee from "the peaceful planet/planet Peace". That's why the term 平和 ( _heiwa_ ) meaning "peace" is omnipresent in the original Japanese dub of Grendizer.
