A wee bit of trivia for ya... Hamish the Scot was played by Irishman Brendan Gleeson and Stephen the Irishman was played by Scot David O'Hara, they originally auditioned for the opposite part but Mel felt like Brendan had the stature and presence to play Hamish and David had the attitude and charisma to play Stephen. So Brendan put on a Scottish accent and David put on an Irish accent and they swapped parts.

In addition to falling for Murron at a young age I think another reason she meant so much to him was that he wouldn't have had a home to return to if there was no love there to make it one. She prevented his homeland from being just land. A reason to even come back at all.

@@charliestewart1283 William le Waleys was a minor Norman knight he'd not have had much contact with ordinary Scottish people, he was only ever in two major battles with no reason to give him credit for 'Sterling Bridge' as he wasn't in charge of the troops, he disgraced himself at 'Falkirk' fleeing the field of battle leaving his men to get slaughtered, long hair would have been thought effeminate at this time, they never wore kilts and Britons hadn't painted their faces blue for a thousand years, the rest of the film is fantasy, the author (screen writer) is an American called Wallace, it was his wet dream, De Bruce was a robber Barron Norman who went north to take land, him and his father had estates in England, he learned to be a knight in England, he was as much Scottish as Mel Gibson, but spoke better French.

@@hetrodoxly1203You write all that out like it’s facts, a lot of the history we know is only known through what certain people wrote, it could be argued what you know is also only half the truth. I'm Scottish and Braveheart is still my favourite film ever. It's utter fiction on the most part but as a film it's pure perfection. My claim to fame is the guy who at the battle of Stirling said '' home, the English are too many '' and '' William Wallace is 7 foot tall '' used to play football with us. He was a dick to be fair and not very good at football...but I'm grasping at straws here 🤣 Great reaction, glad you enjoyed it.

@@kennethwolff6082 so are you related to Wallace or the Bruce? Do you live in Scotland or the US ? I'm just interested in who told you its accurate , What family stories ? We're talking about 700 years ago, Im English born and bred , but I don't think I'm related to anyone involved in the Scottish wars But I do know the history of my own country , Wallace's time nobody painted woad across their faces , nobody wore kilts bc they didn't exist at the time. Wallace didn't come from a peasant village, his father was a landowner a noble, Wallace didn't have an affair with the princess, because she was only 6yrs old when Wallace was killed. The real battle of sterling bridge was fought around a bridge In the movie they faced each other on open land, and would've lost if it happened like that. I could go on forever.. Just Google, you'll find out all the inaccuracies for yourself. Its known as the worst film regarding historical accuracy thats ever been made . Sadly a lot of people believe the movie is historically accurate ( mainly Americans) Did you know the Scottish hate the movie , in Stirling museum they had a statue of Gibson dressed as Wallace, but the Scots kept defacing it , they tried protecting it with a cage , but it still got vandalised, so they had to remove it.

Quite the opposite in fact, they hate the movie, Robert the Bruce was known as braveheart, Battle of Stirling bridge had no bridge, They love and they know their history, and braveheart discards the facts and made it a fantasy. 13:11 The reason he put her on a horse was because that would be her best chance at escaping. He also figured they would mostly come for him, giving her a better chance to escape. He was wrong, however his reasoning was sound. I also want to point out that Murron being assaulted and eventually captured and killed, had zero to do with her getting married or having a relationship with William. That English soldier already had his eye on Murron and that attack was inevitable. And I just got to the part where y'all come to that realization. 😉

Though not historically accurate Wallace was a real man and he did put our wee Nation on its path to winning freedom from Longshanks and the English, for the next 5 centuries. The leave vote came from a combination of all the home nations. The Welsh had the most to lose with a leave vote and they still voted in the majority to leave haha, I say this as a welshmen myself. Greetings from Scotland :D Stuff they made up: Wallace's backstory - little is actually known of Wallace's early life but he was certainly not the son of some random farmer. He was a landowner, a minor noble. The French Princess - at the time of the story, she was nine & still in France The wife - there is no evidence Wallace was ever married The homosexuality of Prince Edward - his enemies spread this rumour after his death, most historians doubt it's true Robert the Bruce's betrayal at Falkirk - total fantasy, invented entirely for the film. Zero basis in fact. The old King's death - Edward Longshanks outlived Wallace by quite a few years Stuff they exaggerated: Wallace's invasion of England - while he did invade northern England, I don't believe he got within a hundred miles of York. Stuff that is true: The Battle of Stirling Bridge - while the exact events have been made more cinematic, the basic facts are that a massively outnumbered Scottish force under Wallace's command did indeed annihilate the entire northern army of the English. His capture & execution - he was betrayed by the Scottish nobles & captured by the English in Glasgow. He was taken to London where he was hung, drawn (guts removed) & quartered (exactly what it sounds like). His head was placed on London bridge & the four quarters of his body were sent to the four corners of the kingdom as a warning (spoiler, it didn't work).

Thank you for exploring this little know story about my ancestral history of Scotland. I have three Scottish bloodlines... Scott & Burns on my Father's side.. and yes... Wallace on my Mother's. And I have been to Scotland multiple times to walk the fields, mountains, crags and moors where a lot of these events happened. Now as for actual historical accuracy of this film... weeelll... That's a discussion for another day. But I'm glad you enjoyed and were touched emotionally by this.

It’s based on the Scottish rebellion of 1314. It was Robert the Bruce’s rebellion but Wallace is a cult figure who was reported to be a great Scottish warrior who fought with Bruce. There is no concrete evidence that he even existed. But historians stated that if he did and won the battles he won and wielded the sword that’s accredited to him, he must have been a man of huge physical stature. (Hence the jokes about him height). Also, the bit about him fathering the princesses child is pure fantasy.

Thank you so much for appreciating this movie. While some things were changed the main course of events are there. England tried to cover up our history and our victories. But luckily other nations recorded the truth and it is now being retaught. The truth always comes out. Your compassion for what our people went through is heartwarming. Love from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

i am Scottish . . . obviously up on our history, but iam extremely happy to see these 2 young black women share the movie with me. The perspective they furnished is SO important. The unity of equal pains, equal loves and wants. Proves again we are ALL THE SAME. Great looking ladies too i have to add! Thank you for sharing.

Well done on a nice honest reaction. You should do the Outlaw King next which shows part of the story of King Robert the Bruce leading up to Bannockburn. Braveheart kind of compresses a lot of the actual history, and mixes in a fair amount of fiction, but the Outlaw King is related to the story of Braveheart.

Great reaction, Ladies! 'Braveheart' is one of my favorite movies and I still shed a tear or two at the end. I love the character of Steven, he was a loyal friend and warrior to Sir William Wallace. And I'll be looking forward to your next movie reaction, thanks! 📽️🍿😊
