The death of William Wallace sent shockwaves all around Scottish cities. Many believed he was a god, never to be slain. Yet, he was captured, tortured, hang, quartered and his body was sent to different parts of the island.
Devastated, undermanned, and overwhelmed by the English, the Scots were ready to surrender... But Robert the Bruce had other plans! He mobilized his army and decided to attack the English. The Scots again did the unthinkable and managed to carve a great victory out of very little odds! Although this scene is historically inaccurate, it gives us the vibes and great war screams. That's what we came for!

About the Battle of Bannockburn (From Wikipedia)
The Scottish army was divided into three divisions of schiltrons commanded by Bruce, his brother Edward Bruce, and his nephew, the Earl of Moray. After Robert Bruce killed Sir Henry de Bohun on the first day of the battle, the English were forced to withdraw for the night. Sir Alexander Seton, a Scottish noble serving in Edward's army, defected to the Scottish side and informed them of the English camp's position and low morale. Robert Bruce decided to launch a full-scale attack on the English forces and to use his schiltrons again as offensive units, a strategy his predecessor William Wallace had not used. The English army was defeated in a pitched battle which resulted in the deaths of several prominent commanders, including the Earl of Gloucester and Sir Robert Clifford, and capture of many others.
FROM IMDB PAGE
William Wallace is a Scottish rebel who leads an uprising against the cruel English ruler Edward the Longshanks, who wishes to inherit the crown of Scotland for himself. When he was a young boy, William Wallace's father and brother, along with many others, lost their lives trying to free Scotland. Once he loses another of his loved ones, William Wallace begins his long quest to make Scotland free once and for all, along with the assistance of Robert the Bruce.
---
Young William Wallace witnesses Longshanks` treachery, survives the deaths of his father and brother and is taken abroad on a pilgrimage throughout Europe by his paternal Uncle Argyle, where he is educated. Longshanks orders his son Prince Edward to stop Wallace by any means necessary. Wallace leads his army to victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge and then destroys the city of York, killing Longshanks` nephew and sending his severed head to the king. Worried by the threat of the rebellion, Longshanks sends his son`s wife Isabella of France to try to negotiate with Wallace as a distraction for the landing of another invasion force in Scotland.
Warned of the coming invasion by Isabella, Wallace implores the Scottish nobility to take immediate action to counter the threat and take back the country. Leading the English army himself, Longshanks confronts the Scots at Falkirk where noblemen Lochlan and Mornay, having been bribed by Longshanks, betray Wallace, causing the Scots to lose the battle. As Wallace charges toward the departing Longshanks on horseback, he is intercepted by one of the king`s lancers, who turns out to be Robert the Bruce but filled with remorse, Bruce gets Wallace to safety before the English can capture him. Wallace kills Lochlan and Mornay for their betrayal, and wages a guerrilla war against the English for the next seven years, assisted by Isabella, with whom he eventually has an affair.
Isabella exacts revenge on the now terminally ill Longshanks by telling him that his bloodline will be destroyed upon his death as she is now pregnant with Wallace`s child. In 1314, Robert, now Scotland`s king, leads a Scottish army before a ceremonial line of English troops on the fields of Bannockburn, where he is to formally accept English rule. Robert then leads his army into battle against the stunned English, winning the Scots their freedom.

No ano de nosso senhor de 1314 patriotas escoceses famintos e em desvantagem lutaram nos campos de Bannockburn, eles lutaram como poetas guerreiros, lutaram como escoceses e ganharam a liberdade.

I've learned more about the actual history behind the film since I first watched it, and have a much less enthusiastic view of it now, but James Horner's score was, is and remains absolutely fantastic.

That last phrase from the movie still sends shivers down my spine ...almost 30 years after I've first seen it. Historically accurate or not - nobody gives a damn! - Gibson knows how to tell a story.

Somewhat. All movies are changed and embellished in some capacity for dramatic effect. But they clobbered the English in this scene here, that's for sure.

I'm a strong willed man, but always weep when this scene plays. The look on Robert's men as he takes out Wallace's rag just fills my eyes up. The Scots faught with honour. Shame they still suck at football.

As a Scotsman and a military historian who has had several papers published on the early part of this war I kick myself whenever I see it.....I KNOW blue faces were long out of fashion and tartan had her to come in. Most people at the time would have seen little difference between a soldier fighting for Bruce and one for Longshanks in fact. Plus "war of independence" , I mean,REALLY.....I think the best description would be part squabble with many claimants for the throne of Scotland and part another front for the Anglo-French wars raging on and off at the time. And STILL,I love this scene. I kick myself for it,but it's a great scene.

A lot of people saying this film is very historically incorrect which is partly true however the scots did in fact win this battle (Bannockburn) irl under Robert the Bruce which makes this scene even better

Ah yes, the battle of Bannockburn, where Robert The Bruce lured the English into a trap crossing the River, not engaging them in the open field like this at all.
@JonnyContagious
@JonnyContagious Ай бұрын
In reality Bannockburn had f*ck all to do with Wallace. He had been dead for nine years. Bruce's life of a man who saw every angle and played both sides before claiming the crown, suffering defeats and great personal loss before reclaiming the kingdom castle by castle in the lead up to Bannockburn is the infinitely more compelling story. Grossly outnumbered his victory at Bannockburn is nothing short of miraculous. The only thing more ballsy than that was petitioning the Pope to recognise Scotland's independence. For all his efforts Wallace changed nothing. Bruce changed everything.
