Tbh, i used merchant at early game more for gaining money to keep equipment up-to-date. Especially if you travel from Anchheim to Florem you have enough encounters to make a good amount of buck.

Ah, the humble Merchant. my least favorite job in the game despite being one of the best supports. I have a bad history rolling 3-4 of these for my randomized job runs. 1 is great, 2 is a crowd, 3 is already too many cooks, and 4 is just a bad team comp. Something to note is the power of Low Leverage: there are a handful of "power" jobs that hit the damage cap early, and start to "struggle" later one as the more midrange jobs catch up. Since low leverage halves all outgoing damage, that wasted "overcap" issue becomes a huge plus- in a kind of weird "unlock damage cap" if you squint hard enough. Basically, if youre doing so much damage that youre hitting 9999 after being halved, theres no drawback to low leverage. and not every dedicated damage job does that freely. In any case, though it hurts your own damage, taking half damage and halving the cost of abilities cannot be overstated. It kind of falls into the same "cheesy" category as stillness, but it takes a bit more legwork to make work. On the flip side, Full leverage had it's incredibly niche use that is..... very dead in current year. Full Leverage under bravely second is incredibly silly, and alot of people used that to send absolutely absurd damage numbers. It's still useful if youre phishing for that bravely second 1-shot, but thats kind of a different minigame. and sending is... well... yeah. most everything else in merchant's kit is very situational. which isnt a negative- thats the definition of utility. but with the foundation of costing pg, its just an outright inferior option to anything else- even red magic (why PAY for an x-potion you might have forgotten when you can just cast cura?). Pay to play is really where merchant's big hurrah is- critical rate up is a pretty hard stat to come by, and even harder to stack to the degree merchant can- and those can get nasty. Merchant CAN be worth slotting over other supports for that alone. It's presented as kind of a jokey-ish style job option, but it's legitimately really great.

Yeah, once you start fine tuning endgame builds Low Leverage effectively becomes both Free Damage and Free Mitigation, what with allowing DRK to attack 20 times for the damage cap.

As someone who left the Big Pharma loop running all day one time, I have one piece of advice. Don't(?) I did it one time, and I ended up coming back to the game apparently having crashed, and this has happened more than once, so it looks consistent. Seems like the game doesn't like it if you keep that going for too long.

I knew Big Pharma could be a bit finicky, but in all the times I've done the strat I've never had the game crash before! I've also never left the auto battle going for more than like 3 hours before, so maybe it's tied to the amount of time in combat? Thank you for posting and bringing this to attention though! Now I'm curious if anyone else has had their game crash during Big Pharma farming before. I might have to look into that...

@@Jadersgames Yeah, when I did it, I left it running while I went to school, so that was maybe, what, 6 to 7 hours? I doubt many others have left it going anywhere near that long. I don't know when exactly it had crashed, just that I was on the Home Screen when I came back and there was some kinda message about the software closing from an error. Maybe I should try to replicate it.

What about Merchant for bravely second? Is it any better?

Merchant got hit pretty hard in Bravely Second, as a lot of the utility it brought was either adjusted or removed completely. It can still provide useful buffs, but it doesn't bring anything all that groundbreaking to the team.

Upon consideration, Merchant truly is p2w, isn't it...
