Haven't watched it yet, because I just joined moments ago, BUT... I'll volunteer to help with this. (I do the same for other organizations, AND I produced 77 cable TV programs 30 years ago.)

I loved this - at a time when many feel hopeless, this is hopefulness epitomized. 330M do need to look at the 538 and say we've had enough. We are more purple! Thank you Braver Angels. I can't wait to get more involved.

Because he was a "successful" business man and gave it up to be president. He paid for his campaign and is donating his salary.

@@GRAVESGGS He paid his own estates for being there, his family profited big from his presidency and he just made somewhat 200+ millions in donations to “fight the steal“. This man does many things... but just “giving something up“ isn't one of them.

I want to be a part of this. Have hoped to start something like this, and felt overwhelmed to do it. Relieved to see it and will find out how to get involved. I am a certified facilitator & would love to become certified in facilitating for Braver Angels also. This brings back hope and a reminder we are all human and connected.

It's a good first step, but I feel like a lot of people were holding back. Andrew specifically was bringing up some good points about hating gay people and they used the typical "we aren't afraid of gay people, we just don't understand it." It's not that difficult to understand and some of these people do need their hidden biases tested more than just thinking a guy on the other side of the line isn't all bad.

But this is how it starts, Phobos. It starts here and it starts with all of us. All we can change is ourselves and to be open to having our own biases tested, too. And then, as one of the participants aptly suggested, take steps ourselves beyond the workshop and get involved. It's hard work, but if more of us step up to do it, we can do so much better.

“Testing” your biases fades away in importance once you meet and get to know someone of that group, whatever that group may be. In this case we’re talking gay, but it could be black, or trans, or drag performers. Whatever

I laughed at the term because it's so 🤔 anti immigration isn't about not letting people into the u.s it's about keeping people in war torn countries.

Comment from u/TheWaystone on Reddit: "So these types of programs used to be very popular in the 90s. There are still quite a few around though they've often adapted how they operate. They're sometimes called something like "encounter" programs and they operate using contact theory/contact hypothesis. From the wikipedia entry: " the contact hypothesis suggests that intergroup contact under appropriate conditions can effectively reduce prejudice between majority and minority group members." However, this type of work is getting pretty controversial because there's some evidence it may benefit the more privileged people in the group far more than the less privileged or that it may even have more negative effects than positive. Another real drawback is that it requires sustained meaningful contact. One-offs are showy but don't really result in changed attitudes. These programs, like a lot of similar programs (like deprogramming) are incredibly expensive and need to be handled by skilled facilitators or they'll backfire. I worked on one for young people that has been studied pretty extensively but struggles (they work on major issues like Israel/Palestine, racism, sexism, homophobia, orthodox religious adherence vs outsiders) because the cost is so high. I'm not a theory person but I've done the best I can explaining it in a nutshell. I worked more on the safety side of things, I'm sure someone trained in this approach could tell you more."

" there's some evidence it may benefit the more privileged people in the group far more than the less privileged or that it may even have more negative effects than positive." translation - when we actually pit republicans against democrats without a leash republicans tend to win and we don't like that

Go look at the social media posts of these people, especially since the 2020 election and you will see they were not moved by this meeting, but in fact, seem more divided than ever.
