Towards the end they did. Her father seemed to be a bit more kinder to her then her mother. They changed though as years went by. At the beginning this wasnt close to the relationship they had at the beginning

This is one one of the most badass clips of any drama. Each and every character was crafted, executed, and choreographed perfectly. From costumes, armor, swords, facial expressions, and fighting/sword fighting. Niao Niao has grown into the badass heroine she was meant to be. She is a general by her own merit. Still a mystery to me why the family was scared to have Ling Buyi added to the family. He truly adores Niao Niao and is a perfect fit. They are a kingdom/clan of warriors worth having. The Emperor should be proud that they are on his side. There really needs to be a part 2 to see the next generation/progeny. I suspect they will be worthy of their parents and grandparents and more intrigue. This family could handle an apocalypse all on their own. For Ling Buyi to trust his Niao Niao to defend and repress the enemy on her own is absofreakenlutely the best compliment! She is a mate worthy of him..but he already knew that.

Nearly every chinese drama ends with a wedding. This here is interesting, because its ending with a deeper meaning. You know it, if you look exactly. There are many moments in this drama which are life meaning and philosophical. Together with the ectraordinary acting and music this makes it to a masterpiece I enjoyed not only once.

Cheng Family is the goat tbh 😂❤ If you think about it, the grandmother may be materialistic but she is fierce when it comes to protecting her sons. She mentioned that she raised them during difficult times and those sons managed to be a general, scholar, and a county magistrate. She may be of poor background but she raised excellent men with good intentions. SS's parents are both meritorious generals. Her mother's sworn sister is a warrior, too. Her eldest brother is a scholar and the other two are warriors. Even her sister-in-law/bff came from a warrior family and a warrior herself. Yangyang is no longer a damsel in distress. She's very eloquent and intelligent the whole time. She even married a sole heir of an influential family who's ready to go to the battlefield with her. SS, I think, has also forged an influence being a lady nurtured by the late empress and emperor. With LBY added, only stupid people would dare try to offend them. 😭

Honestly one of my favourite things about this scene, other than her family rallying around her and them listening to her when she told them what to do, is that no-one in the family was treated as useless. In so many drama's a family either praises the strong fighters or the charming politicians and whichever didn't fit the mould that was raised up was cast aside. In this scene we see the strong fighters cutting down the enemy and protecting the non-fighters who are equally as useful working to protect the fire from spreading and decimating the crop. Everyone has their part to play and the do it. Even Yang Yang who, in many other families wouldn't even *be* there because she's seen as a delicate female, is not only with everyone else, but is equally pulling her weight to help. For some reason that just really stuck out to me, that their family might be renowned for their military prowess, but even the ones that don't fight will still get stuck in and help when they can and that feels like a different kind of wonderful to me for some reason.

I thoroughly enjoyed this romance series, but I couldn’t help but wonder about the political subtext. We have the very likeable, kindly and farseeing Emperor working steadfastly with his officials to establish a firm foundation for the nation, root out corruption and protect the People from malign forces. I would imagine this series was given a big tick by whatever senior Party officials had a say in its production. A bit heavy handed maybe? But putting that aside, a very enjoyable series. Well done.

One thing i always get curious on is abt the military/ state ranks revolving the characters, like between general cheng, general wan, general yuan, general ling/ huo, is there any difference? Also abt the marquis rank? Shaoshang brother’s rank was later mentioned as a general too, it seems they aren’t on the same rank/position we can see that from the troops they had, their duty and their armor, but just how different is their rank? Why call them in the same rank as a general and marquis then?

Well, there were liberties taken on the adaptation of the original novel into this drama. I’m sure the novel made clear the delineation of ranks between generals and marquis. The ranks of generals here seem to be based on nobility or noble families. General Huo or Ling Buyi is high ranking because of being part of a noble family related to the royal family. The Cheng however aren’t nobility per se. They earned their ranks and noble status thru military achievements. Marquis seemed to be the scholar class and they’re also nobles. Their ranks are usually based on the test results administered by the palace. But these are just my conjectures though. The novel is set on a fictitious kingdom so I don’t think it follows hierarchy in ancient Chinese history.
