One of the best stories about the Brazilian army was during the Second World War, in the Montese theater of operations. When one cold night, with a terrible snowfall, the soldiers lit a large bonfire inside the trenches. The command, when informed by superiors, did not believe the story, claiming that no one would be crazy to light a bonfire during it, as this would give away their position. On the German side they thought the same thing, that no one would give away their position with a bonfire and that it must be a trap, to expose the artillery position. As a result, the soldiers spent the night comfortably warmed by the fire because no one believed that someone would be capable of doing something crazy like that.

What we do is different. The mug is separate from the canteen, so to avoid making a mess when preparing it, you make a small hole in the rice to let oxygen in, then crush the rice packet with your hand so that it separates. After that, you heat both packets in the water in the mug of your canteen. Once they are hot, you pour the rice from the rice packet into the other packet and mix it, so you don't make a mess or dirty your equipment. You asked about our knife, there are several, the standard one is the IA2 bayonet. Fighters who use FAL usually carry more than one knife, we operate in dense and tropical forests, fire, knives and ropes are important to us.

i dont know in the army, but being all honest, you ate most of it right, me personaly, i dont think there is wrong way to eat food, you eat as is more pleasing for you, on the guava jelly bar for example, i eat a thin slice, because is very sweet and sugary, i preferrer farofa instead of farinha (wich is the seasoned one) and thats it, i saw some comments talking about not eat with your hands, dont think that really matters, i imagine that as a soldier, i would eat as i can and problably as fast as i can, anyways nice content keep it up ps: brazil has a lot of cutural difference between south and northen, im from the south, we have a lot of european and some spanic influences (since had most european imigrants) and even more in between

It's really cool to see that you're not bothered by the amount of suggar in drinks because you know it's supposed to be like that. Although it's not exactly healthy, soldiers need calories to do their job and that's exactly what's this is all about. Nutrients come from meals. By the way, we do love our farinha/farofa but we don't really add it to every single dish 😂 You can use it at your own discretion! Also for the movies recommendation: You mentioned Elite Squad but I don't know if you watched Elite Squad 2, it's another masterpiece and very relatable. Great video man 👍👍

Idk if it's something that brazillians are just used to, but we don't usually put our bare hand on food. The bananinha or the goiabinha bars, we open and we hold them with the wrapper, same goes for any other food like hamburguers, coxinha, pão de queijo, we use napkins or some sort of wrapper to hold the food, the only exceptions i can think are pizza and fries, and even so, most of the people use knife and fork to eat those, very rarely you will se someone put their bare hands on food around here.

Nice! This time i can say these are staples food in my country, rice, beans, cassava flour and some kind of meat are the everyday lunch for almost every Brazilian (mon to fri meals) the stroganoff is also very common in Brazilian houses (it tends to be very different from the original russian beef stroganoff), we usually eat with shredded fried potatoes, not cassava flour. These are dishes you will find in any Brazilian house. It's also cool that you are learning about other countries reviewing their MREs and reading the comment's, getting more knowledgeable each time. Keep the amazing work! The issued knives to Brazillan army are various imbel knives model. However many carreer officers and NCOs carry zakharov knives (machete like) with animals on the pommel, and the animal on the pommel is usually related to courses they go through, for instance jungle warriors (go through CIGS) have a jaguar on their knifes, Caatinga warriors have a Carcará (hawk) and so on...

About the food scene in Elite Squad, that is things that special forces or military had to endure during training. All brazilians male at 18 must enlist and the Armed Forces choose those that are fit to fill the numbers, the choosen will receive military training during 1 year, sometimes including survival in the wild. I was dismissed due to excess of personel, but i wished to serve. I heard stories of seargents bringing a bunny or a chicken and making every recruit pet the animal, then anouncing they must prepare the meal theirselfves. By the way the army teaches that the jungle is a market and you machete is a credit card.

On top of that we usually have another type of protein, some kind of vegetable and a salad. This is the every day lunch and dinner we eat. And the strogonoff is a brazilian version, like we do with every food that comes from another country. An interesting fact about the wild is that your chance of survival is like 20 to 80 where the 20 is you, as the majority of the wild animals living there can pose a deadly encounter toward you and your family. Also, almost none carries a HAM radio programmed to emergency channels or rangers in the area - hunters. The other thing they miss is that apex predators are like serial killers or psychopaths they always hide, not only in the physical world but also inside their mind - like the super subconscious mind and through it sneak up on their victims on their subconscious mind that why they are undetectable, so when you feel comfortable with that part of your psyche it is most probably already too late. When you camp also spray some ammonia around your camp on the ground and stay away from the woods as that is their comfort zone, they have to stay hidden and yes you`ll be exposed in the open, but so they are and to them, it is a threat to survival. An electric fence is also a must if you decide to take your 20 percent survival chances and enter such an area, that is suicide in my opinion. Motion detector alarms with warning flashes are also a must around your campsite, you can also program your HAM radio to nearby amateur radio frequencies to be sure you can ask for help also setting acts as a transmitter so you can extend the range of other frequencies users staying in the area, and a GPS device with SOS mode is also a must. If guns are available you have to have them too, preferably a larger caliber with high grain bullets 140gr and up, and you should be able to use them when have to, so practice is a must. Out in the wild survival is key and dominance is a key to survival. For a bear on foot due to its length a 20 feet path takes about 1.5 sec, so prepare to face death and be able to act on it accordingly.

City of God and Elite Squad are awesome movies, brazillian classics right there, really shows a "hidden" part of life in the country An interesting fact about Elite Squad, Captain Nascimento was supposed to be a villain-like character, in the movie, meant to be seen as someone so dehumanized by the system that they end up doing bad things, however the effect was in fact the opposite, he ended up being seen as a hero by the majority of the people that watched the movie Anyways glad you enjoyed our stuff again! Someone already pointed out that the company that makes our knives for the military is called 'Imbel', though I can't really say much about the quality of the equipment, because like it shows on the overall quality of the ration, the military isn't exactly very well funded, though they do try to make sure everything works. 30:08 Yeah there's a lot of variation on how we use farinha, the country is crazy big! Some people put very little, some like a lot of it, some only use it on certain meals, it's certainly a "add however much you want, if you want it" type of deal 43:36 someone also already pointed this out, but we usually don't just take the bars out of the packet like that, we open the top half and eat while holding It with it's own wrapper😂 maybe this is just a cultural thing

12:00 this is Feijão Carioca (carioca beans) with linguiça (sausage). Rice and beams plus some meat is the basis of brazilian meals, so you are eating like we do in every lunch.

40:40 Yes, goiabada is eaten alone but no problem if you wish to eat it along with a cracker. Here we also eat Goiabada along with Minas cheese, and its called Romeu and Juliet.

There's a movie called ''Intervenção'' by the same director of Elite Squad, Rodrigo Pimentel. It's just s really really good movie, talking about the situation of the UPPs (Pacification Polices that were place in the middle of Rio De Janeiro favelas) It's the dry reality of it.
