@Mike Mike it is culture that helped them to locate their ancestral home. This is a great lesson to the African people that exalt other cultures above theirs Through their believe and culture it was very easy. Some people here in Nigeria don't even want their children to speak Yoruba.

Religion evolved from Culture, Yoruba Religion now is practice all over the World, with over One hundred millions People, is fifty World largest Religion movement. But Yoruba in Nigeria abandon their Sources, that predate Christianity and Islam. Because Christianity and Islam are Religions of Conquest and defeats

When I see this video, I think of the yoruba slaves that had to go through Opressive conditions, adversity and demoralizing Situation with respect to their humanity. Working on those plantations, yet they still found genuine ways to pass down their culture and tradition through the centuries so that their progenitors would not lose their history and identity. Think of the guts it takes to do that. Passing our history from one generation to another. More power to them.

Yoruba empire has never being subdued or conquer by any other tribe not when the white people arrive with gun powder and guns. I am so proud to have come from this proud tribe who has so much respect for others than any tribe in the world. Oduduwa agbe wa.

Wonderful things I ever seen ..why African are abandoned their culture and heritage ..
@Eniola0ne5 жыл бұрын
Colonialism contributed to reasons why African abandon their heritage, to Control People, you have to destroyed their way of life, their heritage, this quality I mention is closed to human spirits and Soul. And taking away African tongue, allowed African to develop, more affinity to their colonial oppressors. But when you aways from home, then you start to question, the value of identity.

But the Odó òjé (mistranslated as the Silver mortar) is not the oldest temple in Bahia. The oldest is the Ile ase Ayira'n'tile (if i'm not mistaken) also known as the Casa branca (White house).
@princeifatayo41116 жыл бұрын
ochocritico, you are wrong, bahia government can never made mistake to recognise the oldest temple in salvador since it was documented by the authorities of the state, before casa branca the slaves only worship in churches with mixure of african believes that is where the slaves started worship their ancestors, it was after slavery that casa branca were established as the first temple of orisha in salvador.
@olhocritico6 жыл бұрын
I'm not wrong. First: studies show that before the existence of the so called Ile ase 'Iya Naso oka' (former Ile Ayirantile) there were other 'candombles' as they used to call the terreiros (yards where people use to worship not only orisa, but vodun and nkisi that were prior to imole in Brazilian land). But, still the White house is considered to be oldest Yoruba temple of Brazil. They say it was created, among others, by an alleged Iya Naso (I don't believe that) and inherited by Marcelina Obatosin (she was Yoruba) that returned to Yorubaland around 1837 and later came back. The Odo oje was founded in 1963! by a great-great-grandson of Bangbose Obitiko, that was a famous onisango of the XIX c. So the Bahia government might not be so accurate saying that the visited place was the oldest. May be I got wrong the name of the visited temple. BUT... as far as I know the Ooni didn't visit the Casa Branca, nor the Gantois or Alaketu (that some people say was created in the XVII c., which I don't believe also), not even the Opo Afonja. So...
@princeifatayo41116 жыл бұрын
olhocritico, all the houses of orisha and their representives were presents and pay homenage to Ooni, since Alaafin oyo visited them about six years ago, it isn´t neccesary for ooni to visited them again according to yoruba traditional institution, the temple of Bamgbose has represented the rest of orisha or the house of orisha sited in Bahia deu to an agreements among them.

@ Alf Alfred... Your annoyance of the kingship in this Yoruba, even with the igbos.. To dispense of this kingship, you must develop alternatives.... I used to feel like you, however, I realised there is immense and unique role our Obas can played in the 21st century; As the custodians of our cultural values. i.e the visit of the Oni to Brazil, To bridge the gap that was broken by the same Queen of England that you emulating.Does she represent to you as the mother country... England still represent the mother racist country.The British monarch was absolute monarch before the Parliament gradually whittle away her political influence..Alf Alfred, what do want to replace the kingship in Yoruba... The fact that you're Omo ato un rinwa..... (visitor to the Yoruba land... putting it mildly)

Another detail: this Oodua song was not kept in Brazil by the Yoruba people brought there, but was introduced in 1990 by Baba King, a person from Abeokuta, that opened a temple - called Oduduwa - in the São Paulo littoral. Brazilian know little about Oodua Atewonro sife. They, basically, do not worship Him.
@princeifatayo41116 жыл бұрын
olhocritico, they might not known how to worshipped and song for oduduwa but they had the spirits of oduduwa that accompanied them bofore the arrival of the baba king.

Boya! N o mo! Candomble people do have songs for Oodua, but in little number. The fact is that this was a 'performance'. Not an expression of the roots that they certainly have.

Even the Great Britain that colonised you still keep their culture (monarchy). Take away the British monarchy from Britain and you'll realise how less prominent they are as a nation. Many European nations also still retain their monarchs, so I wonder why you advocate that ours be scrapped. We are Yoruba and proud of ours.

Alf Alfred Do you know why you will never disrespect the Queen of England by telling her and her Entourage to go get a job? It is because she owns you. You are her Subject. And because Oni of Ife doesn't own you, you're free to run your mouth. And yes, I agree that the freedom of speech permits you do just that.
@alfalfred87226 жыл бұрын
C Naijastan ....I don't worship the Queen neither. I only believe in free societies like the USA and Canada have. All these kingships and queenships are rubbish! My king is God in heaven. One imbecile will become your king by virtue of being borne into a particular family. Let the world be free please!
@naijanistan6 жыл бұрын
Alf Alfred I acknowledge your point. They are valid. But this King is seizing this platform to foster unity among his people in the diaspora. That's why I'm in support of this African culture and some other cultures. However, In Canada and in the USA that you have cited as an example, the groups that form these two nations come from different cultural heritages. And every group has a background such as this. For instance, the Asians, the Middle Easterners, the Europeans and others do have their own different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, I urge you my Brother, not to get pissed at what you're witnessing in this video. You are free not to partake in the process, but hey, you do not have the authority to ban anyone from exercising their cultural activities. However, you do have the freedom of speech that covers you to verbally and or in writing condemn those who believe highly in exercising their cultural beliefs.

Alf Alfred . I think you are the most myopic dude of the 21st century. How can you free yourself from mental slavery when you still answer to your slave names (Alf Alfred)? It's God that crowned a king as Saul was the 1st king of Israel in the Bible. However Jesus Christ is the King of all kings. The Ooni of Ife is a devoted Christian. I know you don't know your history because your forefathers were sold into slavery but you can still educate yourself. "A country without the knowledge of it past history is like a tree without no roots" - Marcus Garvey of Jamaica.
