One of the most thorough ssb guides out there, thank you. My gym has the rogue and elitefts bars, the rogue bar just collects dust. It's pretty terrible.

Phenomenal video. I ordered the Titan SSB. Very thorough explanations. Thank you!

To me, Hatfields actually felt like much less fatigue as I ensured to use only one or two fingers as support while allowing me to stay in a less leaned position than a regular squat or SSB squat. Similar concept to a belt squat. I'll add that most people use their hands far too much during belt squats, resulting in the same issue you mentioned.
@BrazosValleyStrength2 жыл бұрын
I would agree with your take here and actually one of the reasons I like the SSB overall. It does add this option when people don't have access to other machines. My thoughts in the video, as you said, were about the most common use I see of people trying to "overload" near maximal weights.

Personally Hatfield squat is what keeps me squatting. Regular squat is really hard on my back and cause right hip pain due to an imbalance I have somewhere. I kept letting it heal and work on it but nothing seems to work. My but tends to move on the left at the bottom of squat. Idk why. So when I do Hatfield squat it doesn’t happen and just use my arms when needed for balance I squat pain free. It can be more fatigue since I can put a little bit more weight on because I have more stability from the arms, however I can squat with no pain. I tried the pushing up handle squat variation as well. It works and pain free, also I feels the quad a little more, however my shoulders and arm get a little tired while doing so and I get slightly weaker for my push workout the next day.

I can actually 1rm 22lb more with a SSB than my regular high bar back squat, which I find strange as most accounts seem to suggest that a SSB should be more difficult. I dont do anything specific with the handles, pulling up or down etc, and my regular front squat is about 60lb lower than my back squat. not sure whats going on with that.

3:20 I would like to add that the Kabuki Transformer Bar handles are way too fucking long and unless you have a stance as wide as David Woolson's the handles will hit your legs. I'd rather have an option to remove the handles than have a Goblet Squat setting in my SSB.
@johnmichaelperez5 ай бұрын
Amazing video! Very curious if you’ve ever researched bailing on a SSB? I don’t plan to need to bail, but I work out alone and you never know. I saw one video showing that bailing forward prevents the handles from scraping your back. Any thoughts?

In what situations do you think the safety bar squat can benefit the competition squat? - what aspects does the SB adress, or in what situations of the comp squat faults/weaknesses/difficulties is the SB a good choice? I hope my question makes sense! I really love your content.

@@BrazosValleyStrength everything, and a few times actually. I understand the "fighting" against the bar, but I guess I'm a little confused of in what situations of the comp squat errors this is a good option

I may be a little lost in the weak back/strong legs and vice versa thoughts. I think I'm interested of knowing when the SB is a good choice to adress a specific weakness other than onloading the elbows and wrists
@BrazosValleyStrength2 жыл бұрын
Well I guess the issue here is that both of those questions don’t have easy answers. And this is why you see a lot of different coaching strategies work for people. So the way I might apply these concepts may be different than another coach would. So I’m trying to lay out concepts on how the SSB can be used for people. The specifics need to fit for the individual and are hard to nail down precisely for a wide audience

Great video. Anyone have experience with the Spud Inc. straps that attach to a standard bar to replicate an SSB? I've been using it, it's decent. Just wondering if anyone else had opinions and or experience.

Any chance you could make a video on scenarios where it would be appropriate to use a deadlift change card and explain when and why to use one? I've only had to use my cards once time but my coach did everything behind the scenes so I didn't really follow how it worked.
