Well, yes... but what you don't see is that there are other whales in the area breaching. All of a sudden the entire social unit started jumping out of the water. This one happened to be close to the boat, while the others were scattered in other directions and further away.

I paused the video to see if I could identify the whale. It's our talkative friendly young lady with the piece missing from her right flipper.

It's not normal for a sperm to breach like that. I wonder if there's underwater noise it's trying to escape.

To my surprise, they do breach more than you might imagine. The whales from this social group began leaping out of the water when the wind changed suddenly, which can often induce a lively bout of breaching. We have seen them perform this activity in conjunction with sudden changes in the wind often enough to draw a correlation.

I've never seen a sperm whale breach that high, so amazing. Do blue whale breach high too or they are too heavy

It is rare for a blue whale to breach, but it does happen. It is my understanding that they do not breach very high out of the water (as you say) due to their enormous mass.

I had not seen it very often, but on that particular trip there were several days when they just started jumping!
