I still use my phone for an alarm but I have a rule that it isn't allowed in the bedroom so in the evening I plug it in to the place in the living room that I have dedicated to electronics and just put the alarm on loud. This gives the added benefit of getting immediately out of bed.

Great subject....I rock my phone completely on silent and have zero social media....if fact the comment section here on KZbin is probably the closest thing I have. It's not practical for everyone to do this but for me, it's so liberating. I don't think that people realize how attached they are. Technology doesn't know how we feel about it but we definitely know how we feel about technology.

I swear to god; making the phone black and white seriously makes a huge difference; all the sudden you find yourself unlocking it & then remembering that there is nothing to do here. So then closing it back up & keeping on going along with your day.. this seems to be life-changing. Let's hope this effect doesn't wear off. I have already found myself wanting to turn the effect off, because "I would want to see this in color"; but once you realize that that urge is exactly what you are trying to fight against it actually seems a little scary..

Watching you is like looking at a mirror to myself. I have never expected to find someone who is soooo similar to me with a lot of same interests and habits. It is great to find some one like you on KZbin. (I even use the same phone that you have damn it). Oh my goodness, I am still shocked. Currently learning meditation I use a running app Doing yoga (exercises + Meditation) Learning a language Learning how to journal Learning more about how to explore my inner being. Learning how to be present by reading "The Power Of Now". I am trying not to lose track and be more consistent I am dieting I am a minimalist, (I don't have much material needs) I suffer from anxiety and depression. I am trying to cut down things while not feeling burned out. I am a very work oriented person and sometimes, if I don't connect with people, I think it's totally fine for me, as long as I am doing something that I am interested in. This feels so weird. The only difference that we have is that I am Asian I am in the LGBT community I am currently not making videos but planning to after I move to Germany I don't have the level of confidence or experience that you have. I still procrastinate. I had a mentor who had guided me. I am interested in reincarnation and the book "Seth speaks"

This is really cool, as a computer science major I wrote a short essay about digital well being and our negative relationship with technology. I found some research that actually shows that phones reduce our attention spans, so we can't really concentrate on one task as easily and engage in deep learning. We also read differently than we used to, in more of an "F" pattern where we scan for useful information in reading instead of losing ourselves in the material.

Good tips. I'm currently doing 40 days without my phone until easter. At the beginning, it was difficult to organize myself when I wanted to meet up with friends (writing emails with the computer was the solution - as it is not that natural to us than WhatsApp, you use it only for the really necessary parts of the conversation) and also when I was heading for an unknown place (figuring it out before going and/or asking real people on the street than google maps). But it really helped me to see that I don't need a phone for my daily life: in the first week, there was this urge to be connected, to be looking at the phone screen just to see if I've got any messages or notifications. This urge has completely disappeared. It makes me conscious of how I'm spending my time and that I want to spend it doing things where I see more meaning to it

I delete the apps off my phone before bed, and then re-download, delete mid-day. That's become like its own addiction, as well as placing the apps in different folders, changing the order of the screens, etc. Because although I "should" have self-control, like you said, it's practically muscle memory to just go to my phone, swipe over, open app. It's 100% an addiction!

I see the need for constant contact with my phones as a type of addiction that requires my detox SNS. If I spend too much time on my phone, obsessively checking the internet, social media, mail, or messages, it makes my feel bad…these things kind of message releases dopamine into my brains, making me feel not bad, and want more…. But I sure feel better when the person I am with looks at me instead of their phone…❤️💖😘

I'd also recommend to control all of the notifications that comes to your phone. I turned off all the sounds, badges, messages on lock screen and banners from social media apps. So now it's me to decide when I want to chat, when I want to be lazy and entertain myself. Also I’d recommend to turn off ALL the notifications that you don’t ever need. By doing so you kill all the distractions that your phone can bring to you. Most of the time I found myself picking up my smartphone every time I get message or any other unnecessary notification from the app I rarely use. So if you also raise your phone way more often than you want to, try to manage your notifications

A tool that I use a lot and it's really useful and rewarding is an app called 'Forest' you set the time that you want to be WITHOUT your phone, and in the meanwhile the app let a digital tree grow up, if you use your phone the tree dies so I think its a really cute way to get you away from your phone, and also if you plant enough of those trees you can plant a real tree in Africa, look it up, it's amazing, i've been using it for the last month and it really helps out

Deleted all my social media apps from my phone, set timers using the "screen time" feature built into iPhone, and downloaded the Freedom app (which blocks time waster websites on the safari app for whatever time frame you set it to). When I'm on my computer (which is where a decent amount of my KZbin time wasting happens), I use the Cold Turkey App that I recently downloaded (which does the same thing as the Freedom app on my phone, but it's completely permanent for the time frame (so once you set the timer for an allotted time, you can't get around it until it's over). I might try rearranging the order of apps on my phone as well...that's a good idea.

Yeah! Very nice solution but what I do is in my phone (samsung) Full day I've "on" the dark mode. And also I use dim or non stimulated theme so, it really help me from damaging my eye from bright screen. I use bedtime setting which available in my phone I set from10 pm to 5am it turn my phone into black and white mode and "on" the "don't disturb" mode(as you mentioned in your video). And there is one more setting my phone called "eye comfort shield" I've set the timer of this setting from 7 pm to 7am as we all know bright light is big lead cause to damage our eye and it named as light pollution. Apart from this I use and install only those apps which very helpful as a degree student I'm very super conscious about the apps what I'm using.. and puts the apps in folder with respect categories so it creates less distraction. So these is the way I use to keep myself less distract and healthy physically and mentally. Hope this idea will help someone 🙏🏻😊

To turn grayscale on iphone 1- go to settings 2- go to general 3- go to Accessibility 4- go to display Accommodations 5- click on color filters turn the toggle on , automatically it is going to got to grayscale mode but if it didn’t their are choices available down where you can pick ( they become available only when you turn the toggle switch on )

I have done the same thing with my desktop. I put everything which can distract me in a folder. Like my games. You shouldnt even see the icon of your games/distraction programs. Also when studying and lets say you really want to watch something on youtube, use incognito mode. That way the youtube algorithm resets and doesnt know your weak spots to steal your attention. Recommended videos will be easier to ignore that way.

I log out of all social media and have turned off the “remember me “ option. So each time I subconsciously pull up Instagram or fb I’ve to enter the info and for me that serves as reminder for if I really need to get on it or not. Not full proof but works most of the times

I find the HelpMe Focus App very useful in being less distracted when working. It blocks certain apps that you identified as a distraction in a selected timespan. Thanks to this app i am so much more productive

I am an iPhone user and I should recognize it’s the first time an android phone looked visually appealing to me by the way you arranged those apps on your screen 👏thank you for the video, I’ve used before greyscale on my phone and it’s definitely life changing when you want to get some proper work done, most probably I should apply it more often

Great stuff. I actually talked about social media and phone usage in one of my public speaking classes. Think it is a huge issue in our society right how much time we spend with our phones and the kind of mindset many people (especially teens) have with their social media. I liked this video a lot. I won’t be doing “Do Not Disturb” though. My girlfriend is about to be living 4 hours away. Ouch for me

I turned off the notifications of certain apps like Instagram or WhatsApp, I noticed that I spent way less time on these apps. Because as soon as I got a message or sth, I felt like I HAVE TO check it. Now I only go on These apps, when I REALLY feel like it, not because my mind thinks I have to.

I have done it before. It doesnt worked out, because of my lack of dicipline. I tend to turn off the grayscale option when its on. I change the wind down setting for instagram, as soon as the digital wellbeing said it's time off. Ah, all I need is consistency. Anyway, your video was very helpful. Keep rockin, bro!

In this time of pandemic and people stay more time at home, you can't help but looking to your cellphones and spent all time to it....addiction obviously developed.

I'm also using Pixel 3 and I find the digital wellbeing feature as a must have especially if you're spending too much time on social media. 'Flip to Shhh' is also hands down the best feature, where you place your pixel 3 face down and it automatically activates Do Not Disturb

That's it! Goodbye, KZbin! I gotta stop wasting life's most valuable resource, time. I deleted so many time trap apps and reorganized my home page. Also, I gotta say, your music choice is very pristine. Ever since I saw your cold showers video, I've gotten hooked on French music. Thank you for the inspiration!

if you are an iPhone user, try putting all of your apps into one folder. but don't open the folder. Anytime you want to use an app, swipe down and search type in the app you want to use. This forces you to use your phone more intentionally
