I absolutely agree with no phones at the table. We also don’t watch tv while eating unless it’s a “movie night” during the hours of 2-6 I put my phone up. My daughter gets home from school around 2 and by 6 we’ve eaten dinner. Now I am definitely guilty of strolling through a ton at night and keeping myself up sometimes from it.

I love the idea of creating a shot list ahead of time - that’s not one I’ve heard before! I’m a chronic too-many-picture-taker and feel overwhelmed by the amount I have. I Tru to go back and delete photos, but it would be much more effective to simply take fewer photos in the first place. This will be especially important with Google Photos moving to paid storage in June. I’m going to try this one out!!

Thanks for these tips! I feel like part of the reason I feel the need to carry my phone around the house with me is because I leave it on silent - so it it’s not right next to me I’ll miss calls and texts. So why don’t I just turn the ringer on?? So simple but like you said once you have a habit in place you need to be really mindful to change it. I also have an alarm clock for the very reason you said here but have procrastinated setting it up. Maybe now I will!

For example, while I am studying in the living room I leave my phone in my bedroom, so I have to get up to get it. Also, if you use your computer for work, try to do some of the things you do on your phone there, like WhatsApp, it one less reason for you to pick up your phpne

I would add books and magazines to the list of analogue counterparts of the phone. Since we often use phones out of boredom, it’s a good idea to always have a captivating book or magazine at home. There are so many great titles out there that are way more interesting than funny videos on KZbin or another meme that I’m sure you will all prefer reading a book rather than scrolling down Facebook before going to sleep or while eating your lunch.

In short, return to old school ways of doing things like we did when I was growing up. We had clocks (and still do) in each room in the house, including analog clocks (oh, the horror! Can't believe how many people don't know how to read an analog clock), wrote important appointments and such on the wall calendar or carried a pocket calendar in our purses. Still do. The only thing outside of our mom we had to wake us up for school was an alarm clock. There was no snooze button, and if you really had a tough time waking up, you could place it on a tin pie plate. You bolted up in bed when it went off and you were wide awake! When we wanted a recipe, we opened a cookbook. When we wanted to take a picture, we used our Polaroid instant camera, which was super hightech at that time, or windup film cameras that came along later. Everything you described in this video is exactly the way we used to do things, which was better in so many ways. We talked to each other at mealtime instead of staring at a screen and we used more of our cognitive mind skills by writing by hand instead of typing all the time. People are finding that those older methods of doing things were much better for us in the long run, says the writing who is typing all of this on her computer. LOL Thanks for the tips and the great video.
