Great video! Clear and concise. Love the way you explain everything. In fact I saw your truck heading the other way on 80 a few days ago. Thought the hood and side logo were supposed to be something like a shield out of Harry Potter lol A few things to note here: -In order to get downtime pay, the truck MUST not be able to drive. Batteries, tires, comfort systems (heat, A/C etc.) etc are NOT eligible to be covered. In other words, if the truck has to be towed, you're 99% likely to be covered under downtime pay. -The warranty coverage can either be really simple or really difficult. I've had instances where they took the total out of my check and reimbursed me once the warranty came through months later. Hopefully that WON'T be your case, and likely not since it seems to be warrantied directly from Freightliner. I had to fight for my warranty reimbursement, and even then it took over 4 months to finally get paid back. -I was stuck in Salt Lake City for over a week when my truck was getting repaired. I know you're trying to save money, but I would definitely look into maybe getting a rental car next time you're stuck. I try to stay away from the terminal as much as possible, and an economy car cost me about $23.00/day which was definitely worth my freedom to explore and take care of things where i didn't have to rely on uber or the shuttle. - Iv'e had nothing but bad luck from the Pete's. Multiple times in the shop for the same issue, not to mention they take forever to pull the truck in. Over 4 weeks total I would say sitting around waiting for repairs. It was insane. Anyway, sorry for the long post and keep up the good videos!! :)

For bad luck, you ended up with a lot of good luck making the bad a whole lot less bad. :~) To me, you get HUGE credit for being a disciplined businessman in terms of finances; consistently saving money so when bad things happen you have the reserves to handle the situation. It goes without saying (at least to someone with some business knowledge), especially in the truck leasing/owning business, that working capitol is crucial. Without it and a little bad luck and your situation could have been devastating, so kudos on a keen sense to accrue and maintain that capitol, I'm sure I don't have to tell you to keep it up. Also, The price of that suite was extremely good. I've been in rooms half that size and twice as much. One other item, I didn't see where you got back on it, but what was the deal with the fuel filter replacement? The company I'm headed to has Freightliners and Internationals and I'm hoping I don't have these issues so soon. The problem with all these new fuel systems is not with the truck - the problem is with the lack of lubricity in the diesel fuel. The fuel pumps get their lubrication from the diesel they are pumping and the crap the government makes the refiners produce for road fuel is a recipe for expensive disaster- if you want ur equipment to live put about a gallon of oil in each tank when you fill up. And it gets even worse up north in the winter when they start running #1 diesel. Good luck
@kirostar124 жыл бұрын
Never put a gallon of oil in your tank in engines after 2007 model. You can do so on engines before the 2008 year model. The new engines are built to operate on low sulfur fuel only! If you don't go to California you can buy a used truck 2007 model or before and forget about an engine or DEF troubles forever!

When you add back in the benefits, which are incredible, that lease drivers don't have and then add in the 5% extra company drivers make on the 401k match they actually make the same amount. People see dollar signs and automatically think its,the better decision. I did company 2 years averaged 1600 - 1800 a week, after taxes, including home time when you factor in my benefits and 401k program match. Never owed Prime a dime or went into the hole. After 2 years I now financed a brand new truck and it's my title. No one is taking this truck from me. Im not paying over $1000/week just to pay off the truck off for Prime before thet turn around and sell it for a,huge profit. Your doing them a huge favor and saving on their taxes and benefits. But yeah you make so much more money than a company driver so it's way worth it. Keep in mind we are all doing the same work out here. We are all just truck drivers trying to make a,living. No one,position is better or worse determined by the money it makes. Stay safe driver.

@@JJtheTrucker for sure. Thanks for not taking it the wrong way. A lot of drivers take it personally when you offer advice or wisdom. But yeah keep doing what your doing. Saving up your money and eventually when you finish the lease you can finance your own truck. I think your a perfect fit for owner op with your work ethic and attitude. I suggest that you don't fall into the cycle a lot of Lease drivers do and jump from lease to lease to lease. By the end of it all you will have nothing to show for it. Go get your own truck and lease on with Prime or do what I did and move to a company that treats you like a professional and gives you access to an actual load board. @JJtheTrucker4 жыл бұрын
Good question. I don't have any dry van experience, so my answer will be one-sided. Ive heard you get in and out of the shippers/receivers faster and without an appointment with dry vans (haven't confirmed this though). With reefer, some are drop and hook while some are by appointment only. BUT, with reefer, you can haul anything that'll fit. Refrigerated, frozen, temperature controlled such as chocolate or medications, as well as dry goods. So there's more loads available to you and less down time.

How long did you have to train with a trainer? I am ready to sign up for prime.
@JJtheTrucker3 жыл бұрын
50,000 team miles. I started orientation in mid-August and finished all Training at the end of December. I got my own truck on January 3rd.

Great Video @JJ. So, did Freightliner clarify the source of the problem? Was it due to a manufacturing defect of the fuel pump or was it a design issue?
@JJtheTrucker4 жыл бұрын
They didn't say. I didn't ask. Too interested in the newly added part and the missing fuel.
@samishg4 жыл бұрын
@@JJtheTrucker Thanks for the reply. That brings me to the second question. Why did they have to drain the fuel tank? If they suspect it to be contaminated with metal shavings, so should be the fuel lines delivering to the engine and also the combustion chamber. Did they clean that too? Apologies for being inquisitive. 🙏
@JJtheTrucker4 жыл бұрын
yeah they had to flush everything including the injectors. This video goes into a little more detail about it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqfEq2qPq8xmp5Y

No lemon. Im shopping for a truck and upon reviewing mechanical hjstories for these trucks 300k miles plus well you guessed it! More of the same/similar major problems in ALL of these trucks!

The tow itself was around $2500, and I've heard those fuel pumps and replacement is around $6000, but that's not confirmed.

As someone who is looking to start with Prime Inc next year, do you have any tips?
@JJtheTrucker4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Research, research, research. There are a lot of good companies. Make sure Prime fits YOUR needs. They fit mine like a glove but different people need different things, ya know? Then, look into both company side and lease side to see what's best for you and your family. They each have benefits and drawbacks. Also look into which division you'd prefer. Prime has 4 divisions. Reefer (most popular, pays well, least physical work), flatbed (pays better, more physical work), tanker (pays a little better, but harder to drive, a little more physical than Reefer) or Intermodal (more regional and more home time opportunities, but hardest to get into, and limited areas). Other companies may offer dry van (tons of miles and hours, good money, easy but may sit longer between loads) as well as others that are out there. Once you decide, contact a recruiter and find out what the next steps and time lines are. Do this in advance so as to not run into any last minute surprises (such as if they don't hire out of your area). Finally, watch plenty of vids from us KZbinrs and ask us questions. We're all here to help (and to earn your referral). 👍

JJ might try a hotel booking app. I use booking.com and can get some decent deals at times. I looked in the app for salt lake and there were some good deals. Sure it isn't the same time frame but it might be helpful in the future if another breakdown or if you just want to get out of the truck for a day or two. Even if you only use it one time it is worth it. Can save boatloads.

The funny part is they are made from the same components. Same axle manufacturer. Same transmission manufacturer. Computer is probably from Bosch. You just go through their catalog and pick which one you want to make your truck.
