Mexicans been cooking like this for ever glad its catching on in U.S....disco means disc in Spanish.....I have a big 24 inch disco that I had made for me at a black Smith shop in Tijuana I live in San Diego about 25 years ago its deeper then this one which allows me to deep fry....I can make some killer fried Chicken on it and super crispy batter fried fish and shrimp for fish and shrimp tacos.....I had the black Smith weld three 12 inch rebar legs on it so I can put it directly over a fire when I go camping.....also have the propane burner for it.....get your self one I recommend the deeper one so you can fry with out spilling oil or grease.

We used whole chicken legs with skin on only. Canola oil heated to 160. No seasoning or flour batter. We add seasoning after chicken is fried up like you would do with french fries.

the name disco dish make me think of 1970's music like KC and the Sunshine "That's the Way I Like it" and Manteca (grease or Lard) the Afro-Cuban Jazz piece with Dizzy Gillespie and Chano Pozo named "Mateca". kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJmWe4F8rcmGZ5Y on 3:48 we see Steve Turre master trombonist of Mexican / Northern Italian heritage get down with sea shells....Bad to the bone.

Is the disco cast iron ?
@thediscodish39125 ай бұрын
Great question! I really don't know...anyone out there know what type of steel or metal a disco is made of? I will find out and let everyone know!
@kerrymower13214 ай бұрын
@@thediscodish3912No, not cast iron. Cast iron is pure iron. Plow discs are made of steel, which is iron with some carbon mixed. Cast iron is brittle. Steel is malleable. Many discos are made from old plow disks after they are replaced.

I’m a disc newbie. Thinking of buying one. Don’t think I have time or tools to make my own like some people I’ve seen. I’m debating on a Southwest Disk or a Tembo Tusk skottle. I don’t mind paying more if it is truly worth it. Please let me know what y’all think! And I’m a new subscriber! Love the video and miss the southwest chilies! Harder to find now that I’m in FL.
@velardechile2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you for watching and subscribing! For mobility the skittles is a bit lighter and is packaged well. A southwest disc and burner set up is a more robust setup. Still mobile, but a bit heavier. Keep on kooking!

what size is this discada ? and what thickness do you suggest ? I am looking at making one out of 1/4" thick 24" diameter... dose that sound like a good choice ?
@thediscodish39123 жыл бұрын
That would make a great disco! My original disco is 3/16" thick at the bottom, and thins out to 1/16" at the edges. I have different diameters as well. the one used in this video is 22" I believe. Have a great day! TM

@@thediscodish3912 cool thanks for the info! I see in your other videos you have several hanging up 👍🏽 I am definitely going to make one now. Might do wood insulated handles. And I am open to any other design ideas you might want to pass along.?. I also read someone’s comment that said discada is a mixed meat dish popular in the North Mexican cuisine that is cooked on a dish and not the dish it self, so, sorry for me using incorrect terminology. Disco is cooler anyway:) I love outdoor cooking and your videos are great, You got my attention (subbed)!Thank you so much for the awesome videos and inspiration!
