I had to live in Brighton Beach for about a year and a half (over ten years ago). It's another planet. It's not just a neighborhood, it almost feels like another country. You see people that you never see in Manhattan or in other areas. Some of the residents never really leave Brighton Beach, and don't speak any English at all. It was A TRIP living there! I can't even tell you how many times people would just start speaking to me in Russian, assuming I was Russian too. Every single day! (I was sorry to disappoint! haha!) I look forward to seeing this film just for the personal nostalgia factor as well as the movie itself!

The best film of the year so far in my opinion. It accomplished being euphoric and heartbreaking, and subverts expectations in a devastating way in both the story and character arcs. I sat in the theater in a daze for about ten minutes after it ended, and I sobbed all the way home. It’s rare for a film to cause that kind of reaction, and I think that’s a sign of great art.

I didn't know this was a 2-1/2 hr movie when I walked in and it didn't feel like it. I was so caught up in the story. And all actors were superb. Mikey was very very brave to do those scenes. I think they could have cut the runtime because there was a time in the movie when I got "porn" fatigue. I mean, we know she's a stripper/escort that's her job and I felt those strip club scenes went on too long. That's where they could have cut about 15 minutes out.

I want to talk about the mansion. I have no idea why but having a big open space in your home equates to wealth. Wealthy people in america think that big open floor plans are luxurious. I cannot stand an open floor plan. You cant watch a movie when the voices in the kitchen are echoing thru the entire house. I feel like the space in a house loses purpose with big open floor plans. If I ever become wealthy beyond belief, My mansion will have a million rooms, The kitchen will be closed off from the living room. Dining room too Glass furniture is another fallacy of wealth. People think having glass furniture opens up the space but in reality glass furniture is a hazard. Kids or no kids glass furniture is so dangerous to keep around. When I saw that glass coffee table in film, I knew some one was going thru it lol. Also glass tables are noisy. placing any kind of dishware on the glass table just irritates my senses. wood is so much better bc it is warm and soft. I am sure Sean Baker feels the same way I do and the choices to include these things were intentional to show the disconnect from reality. Anora was an amazing film I am so happy to have finally seen it at my local theater

@dthill96Ай бұрын
4.5/5 for me. Sean Baker is a filmmaker that always delivers. This is the biggest budgets he’s worked with and it shows with the locations he shoots in & the clothing the actors are given to wear. The 🌎 these characters are in feels real, the performances are incredible (Vanya is one of the biggest if not the biggest asshole you’ll see in a 🎥 this year 😂) and like pretty much every 🎥 he’s made it ends at a point where you’re like “IT’S OVER?!!!” Because you wanna see what happens to these characters (in “Red Rocket” you shouldn’t give a flying fuck about Mikey Saber but you wanna see if he can get himself out of various predicaments). Now you’re probably wondering why it’s not a 5/5. I’d say the final two acts are much stronger than the first because they’re filled with so much humor and suspense. Because of that there’s moments where it feels a little long but similar to “Challengers” earlier this year I couldn’t think of a scene Sean could’ve taken out. Idk what his next project is but I’d love one day to see a $15-20 million Sean Baker 🎥 by a major studio (the only studios I could think of that’d let him do what he wants to do are probably Universal & Amazon MGM).
