Byron Rich after betraying yo partner and selling out he snitched got dame, gotiti, suge and j prince distribution collaboration deal scrapped he came up off the backs of selling out his brothers or shall I say the others who were business minded and declining masters scraps from the table wanting to eat of their own merit leave wealth that multiple families could inherit rather than just his pockets being lined with bills dirtier than Harriet than how they replaced the original Harriet with the light skin lady u know Winslow ... or he put for them dead presidents big dividends like how they swapped out aunt Vivian from the fresh prince .. they flipping formulas the original cast just made more sense. But clearly right or wrong is irrelevant in terms of dollars and cents loyalty gets lost when checks being cut and they hacking percents 💸

I remember watching Jay Z on a Howard Stern interview when I was young and saying to myself, "okay now this guy is different and I want to see what he does over the next 10 years." In the interview he basically sat down and told everyone what he was about to do with his past music career and maybe it was farfetched but he convinced me. Don't get me wrong I like Jay's music, IMO he is the best at the style of wordplay he does but I have never followed him and his career to see what new song is about to drop. I'm proud to say I'm more a fan of the man than the music.

10:20 Jay literally explaining how he became famous. This what Jay did , Jay sat in the background , lurked in the shadows of New York , no one seen him as competition or a threat, cause he held everything close to the chest, quiet, just doing nothing but studying , plottin, sittin there, behind Biggie Smalls, KRS1 , Nas , Big L , Jaz , etc, and he stayed quiet, and learned from all them, while watching what works and what doesnt, taking the best from each of them , and fuse it all together to make an ultimate style to rep all of NY as a whole , best from each borough meshed , he waited for his time , sat quiet , and when the moment came he struck, and never looked back, them people blink and all of a sudden he passin them all up.

The whole culture kind of changed and Jay was smart enough to be ahead of the curb and see where it was headed, like Jay couldnt have been able to hang in that era with G-Rap and Kane , but Jay knew how to work the buisness and how to reach a larger audience. Like I still feel that Nas is a much better lyricist, storyteller, and has more pure pen skills than Jay , but when you speak that deep stuff , street stuff , thought provoking stuff , you are only speaking to a specific group of people , not everyone relates. Jay recognized that if you made songs more broad an more universal , you could attract a larger audience. See that street shit , was only felt by those in the streets , that New York shit you would only connect with if you lived there and knew what they were talking about. Jay saw how a hit song is a hit song and can span across multiple different walks of life , he saw how popular hip-hop was becoming and it was no longer just for the New York streets , he foresaw it going corporate and commercialized, so Jay even admits to dumbing down his lyrics in order to reach a broader audience. People criticize him for it , but the results have been him being one of the most paid rappers of all time, and married to Beyonce... So I would guess he doesnt really worry about the critics that much. Thats Jays genius , that even though he might not be as good of a rapper as G-Rap, Rakim, or Kane , Rza Gza Ghostface, etc , his awareness of the buisness and marketing, made it possible for him to be exponentially more successful than all of them and make more money than they could have even imagined possible.

I agree you cant listen to an album & review it all within a day, I personally have to listen to an album at least 3 times to get a gist on instrumentation/sound, the vibe of the album, emotions in the songs, word play etc. It takes me a good couple or few weeks to really confirm if I actually like or dislike an album. Now within 24 hours I can tell if I love a song or not like as soon as I heard Beyonce- Plastic off the Sofa I fell immediately in love, I tend to do that with albums tho one or two (non-single ) song(s) I connect with instantly!

Jay earned his stripes. Check his catalog he never sold less than 1m. People have to understand. Jay got into rap to escape old life. He was too good, that rap opened other doors for him.
