Being from Czech Republic, it's always nice to hear that someone outside CZ, even Europe, recognizes the manufacturing history of CZ. There's less and less such companies that have the history and we must appreciate every single of them. Just a tip on the pronunciation of the "c" letter, it's always "ts", not "k" in Czech. So, for example, Vaclav is "Vatslav", not "Vaklav" 🙂 Thanks for all the tips, it's always nice to see a new video from you in the feed.

Ahoj! That's really good to know about the pronunciation! My Girlfriend and I are studying Czech in preparation for our trip to Czechia in the Fall, and we did not know this. Thank you. ( as you can see, my name is Czech, originally "Pijacek", and we are going to the place of my ancestry in Moravia). Cheers! BTW, we thought the "c" with a ^ over it was the way to indicate the "ch" sound.

Great video. I have the "other manufacturer's" Grabber pushblock and completely agree with your evaluation. If anyone has ever grimaced when pushing a sketchy piece through the saw blade, this tool will give you greater confidence in the cut. It really is great and falls into the category of "cheap insurance". I also have the DustRight vac adapters and the Narex chisels. One caveat I have found concerns the DustRight hose. It is super-flexible and stretchy. So, when it's connect to the shop vac, the small adapter causes some restriction and the hose collapses on itself. So, I use a different hose with the small adapter. I have used all these tools daily for years with great success and don't regret buying any of them. Thanks.

I’m drooling over the chisels. But I hardly ever use chisels and I have a cheap set. It doesn’t hold the edges long. But for the one or two times I use them, takes seconds to sharpen b4 use. It’s hard to justify buying something so nice that I don’t use much. I learned the chisel sharpening technique from Stumpy, it’s super helpful. With a Diamond stone, I can get it razor sharp when I need to use it (even with cheap chisels).

The Richters are actually worth every cent even at the current price. I got a six pack when it was about a hundred bucks cheaper a couple years ago and I feel like I robbed Taytools at that price. They do sell them individually if you want to ease into the cost, though. Maybe pick up your favorite 2 or 3 sizes over time. Treat yo'self.

I'm 67 too and have been a carpenter forever and so been using a portable saw all this time. I couldn't afford a Saw Stop so I just bought a Delta contractor's saw. I LOVE having a solid shop saw now! (the saw stop is also to large and heavy for me since we are renters and may have to move it now and then. Plus the Delta is on wheels, which is great for my small space).

I've had the flexi kit for a short while, the hose is somewhat heavy and the coiling is stiff to the point it can pull a small sheet sander off the bench. Any suggestions out there, do I need to break-in the hose by stretching it out to the limit and keeping it extended for a couple hours to help relax the wire coils?

I'm currently using an early generation Dewalt contractor saw I got for free and that SawStop pretty much has every feature I would like to see mine have for regular use, including the actual cartridge. I cannot justify the cost to buy one (several thousand here in Canada) but if I ever get another table saw it a SawStop is the only choice. Really other companies should be working with them to get the cartridge into more saws, and if they ever release a system to retrofit an older saw I would get it in an instant. In the meantime that GrabberPRO looks like a great safety upgrade for my workflow with smaller pieces of lumber.

Dewalt has one that has many of the same features, including the fence system. It looks like this one copied those features. The Dewalt also has the ability to accept dado sets. This one has some advantages, mainly the safety features and the zero clearance ability on the blade without having to make your own inserts. The build quality on this one may be better too, it's hard to say from the video.
@Nick-iz9zo
@Nick-iz9zo Жыл бұрын
@@kstangent but the DeWalt doesn't have the safety system... For me personally, I'd rather have the added safety. The job site pro saw that sawstop makes can take a dado set but the compact one is too light weight to safely stop the dado stack fast enough. There are also other saws with the same style fence, not just DeWalt.

Stumpy, how does the SawStop CTS table flatness compare to the JSS? I have the JSS and am looking for a small saw but with a better build quality. I really like the idea of the rack and pinion fence compared to the JSS fence. Too bad we can't get the Festool/SawStop TKS 80 in the States...

That little sawstop looks awesome. I love the fact that it uses trunnions. Not having to change that table insert for different blade angles is huge. Not supporting a dado stack wouldnt bother me at all. Never used one. Always used a router if I need a dado.

@@williamstead6354 Better look at some of the reviews on YT. Whether this thing will work for you depends on what you plan to do with it, some people are happy with it. The two issues that have me worried: 1) No rail in the table for crosscut sleds or feather boards. 2) It uses a proprietary fence system, that some have found to be something of a pain to set up and maintain in alignment. Well, that and the price tag. Though keep in mind I haven't done enough research on it yet either, I just watched a few reviews

The rack and pinion and flip fence are taken directly from the Dewalt range of jobsite and benchtop saws. I'm a huge fan of those features. On the Dewalt, you don't have to rotate the knob to move the fence; instead, grab the fence and push it left or right. It works smoothly.

Hi Stumpy I appreciate your channel and do respect your professionalism but I miss the humor of days gone by. I purchased the sawstop job site saw (thank you very much) but before purchasing it, I contacted the company and ask them if they had arriving knife to be used with a thin curved blade. They said they didn't recommend then curved blades with their saws. It's my assumption that it has to do with the breaking forces. Maybe it's different for that new compact saw but I thought I would mention this. Keep up the good work and I hope the characters of days gone by are still in the shop.

I saw the video where there appeared to be lot of sag in the fence rails at full extension. It seemed to me that the cams on his fence rails were simply out of adjustment, based upon a video Ron Paulk about his. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5zKfZKtf96eg9U) I am not sure why the SawStop rep did not explain that when he called, but the saw did just come out and it is possible the rep wasn't familiar enough with it..... Keep in mind, this is a portable table saw. It is not going to be as rock solid as a cabinet saw. (I don't have a Dewalt, but others have said that there is some movement in it's fence at full extension, as well, which does not affect it's accuracy.) That's one of the compromises you make for a less expensive tool, and you should consider that before making any purchase. I found the accuracy of this saw to be consistent with the type of saw it is, and apparently, so did Ron Paulk.

How does the Sawstop's dust-collection compare with that of the Dewalt 7491 or the larger Sawstop jobsite saw, which have a small dust port up on the blade guard as well as down below on the shroud? Did Sawstop offer any reason for not putting a blade-guard dust-port on the Compact while offering it on their larger jobsite saw? Its lack of dust collection is the only reason I'm thinking of upgrading my 8" Delta Homecraft.
@StumpyNubs
@StumpyNubs Жыл бұрын
Any saw that has a dust collection hook-up on the blade guard itself will perform better. However, the people who tend to buy jobsite saws (contractors) are the least likely to leave the blade guards on, so it is often a moot point... I think SawStop opted against upper dust collection so they could make a guard that provided higher visibility in the hopes that more people would leave it on.
@timromano7085
@timromano7085 Жыл бұрын
@@StumpyNubs A shame they made that decision. Dewalt and Sawstop have reputation for precise/accurate cut rivaling "woodworking" saws. Jobsite saws are the only contemporary option for hobbyist woodworkers with limited shop space who want accuracy, dust-containment, as well as modern safety features like a riving knife in a compact package. Nobody makes a modern version of the 1950s-era entry-level cast-iron-table contractor saw that comes without wings and without a long cabinet-saw-style fence. It's jobsite or nothing.

@@timromano7085 You'd be surprised how many people (not just contractors) say they remove the blade guard for better visibility (a total crock of BS in my opinion).
