It's about respect for bread. Bread has a special meaning in Europe. Respect for bread symbolizes respect for food, which was sometimes lacking in various parts of Europe due to wars or crop failures. Turning the bread upside down it is like about turning a sacred image face up to the wall.

I have many friends who moved to Rockland County . Its a stones throw and much more affordable . taxes aren't as high as long island either and certainly not as high as Westchester County
