Great... We got our guy back, does he have the talent of the 2019 D-line? We , BTW, we, as a team, DID learn a lot from Wilkes, even though HE did not so much learn as much as he needed to about blitzing, mixing LB coverages and even just " getting ur hands" up on the D-line ( notice how well Orem Burke did that last week for Philly).. We don't near the tipped balls that we could. WE, as a defensive backfield learned a lot more schemes and playing off each other as DBs , and 49ers produced a lot more INTs under Wilkes,. Secondary gpt much better. So, our LBs were slow in understanding WHERE a play was going , allowing the opposing team's O-line to get to the second level. We needed a quick , explosive LB, to read and "shoot his gun". ( shout out Tim Ryan) . Like a Patrick Queen, Roquan Smith, Matt Milano. Dee winters, Jalen Graham, Tatum Bethune, all later round picks were not up to it... Yes, I KNOW we need Greenlaw back, but BOTH our topo LBs need a good third LB. Maybe one of those late rounders can take a step up. If I were the Niners, I wouldn't bet on it-- draft, trade, sign a top Third LB.

Here is what is really back: confidence. This year I knew the niners would lose even when leading going into the 4th quarter. The team themselves didn't look confident they were winning. When it rained, it poured. That's not going to happen in 2025. That Dre Greenlaw tackle that clinched the top seed was vintage Saleh on the field. That's what we're going to see next year. When you have a defense that keeps you in the game, the confidence is going to carry over to offense. I can't wait.

David. Love your stuff. I have to challenge you on. Rocks season though. His stats may be good, but his situational awareness and performance at pivotal moments this season were game changing too often in the worst way. Also let’s be honest about separation stats. If you’re only looking at separation at the catch point, you’re missing the rest of the receivers. I think it’s more indicative of where the QB is throwing. It doesn’t necessarily mean all of the receivers on the play are not separating. There were plenty of wide open check downs he passes up to force the ball down the field to blanketed receivers multiple times at crucial junctures in games. Many off those could have kept the team in the W column. I’m NOT saying he’s the reason they lost this season, there was plenty of blame to go around. However, he absolutely could have been the reason they won a number of those games and he too often contributed in a major way to losses trying to push too hard when he could have taken what the D gave him. He needs to know when to be aggressive and when to just live to the next play.
