It is so interesting to watch how people react to this show. People sympathize with Walt and Jessie so much... but they deal in poison that completely destroys lives. This ain't pot we're talking about. It is a true testament to the quality of the writing and acting.

Right!! Which is why we're always stuck in conflict with our love for these characters and our morality whenever something happens to them D:

@@kyuujinreacts Its without a doubt one of my favorite shows... but from the moment that Walt decided to cook that poison in episode 1, my sympathy for his situation waned. Cancer is horrible and it has hit my family, but I can't see helping to destroy other people's lives just to benefit my own. Maybe I've just seen too many episodes of Intervention on A&E.

It's ok, I don't think the show runners truly wanted us to agree with his choice (heck even HE doesn't....at least not at first!)

@sincerelyzee521 No, I wouldn't. Try taking a walk through Kensington Philadelphia and tell me that meth isn't bad.

This episode is always rough, even on rewatch. One of my biggest fears is homelessness. There's something terrifying about the possibility of not having a way forward and losing everything you own, especially if you have no support from family or friends on top of it. I think that, to some extent, it's probably a fear that lots of people have if they aren't living comfortably. It's a very real thing that people end up in dire situations and lose all the things that give them comfort and safety, and that's just a horrible reality. Thankfully for the characters of the show, a fortune is just a few hours of meth-cooking away, but still...
@kyuujinreacts5 жыл бұрын
It's one if not THE lowest point you can reach when it comes to comfort imo...it's the loss of a safe place, the loss of everything that you know D: it's terrible that Jesse had to go through that in this episode (it was a really tough one to watch)

I also think its odd that Walt doesn't realize or ever worry that Skyler can see right through his bs. I always felt like that kinda said a lot about him as a person.
@83gemm5 жыл бұрын
Matt Majcan Part of Walt’s issue is denial. He sort of convinces himself that his lies are true so he can continue to see himself as the good guy. It is why he’s always so shocked and kind of insulted when anyone calls him out. If he was facing things, he’d have realized, “Ok, my wife isn’t dumb and she is a tad controlling. I cannot possibly keep this from her.”

So Jesse's mom is fine with telling him about his carelessness but can't face her own mistakes (which from Jesse's words sound alot worse) 5:47 _"Don't start with me"_ I just hate it when people are armchair critics

She's also embarrassed about what the neighbours think when Hank shows up, even though he said Jesse's in no trouble and just looking for his brother in law, but that threat to her keeping up appearances is what kicks her into action rather than being worried about her son. She wishes he'd turn his life around so he's no longer a point of shame for her, not out of caring for his wellbeing. She makes him homeless even though that makes it near impossible to get his life together.
@kyuujinreacts5 жыл бұрын
Exactly! That single episode really cleared a few things up when it comes to Jesse's parents and it's just real sad to see they care more about the opinion of others than their own son ):

Jessie would have ended up in prison without Walt... Crazy 8 even turned in his own cousin to the DEA/Hank. He would have turned in Jessie. It was only blind luck that Jessie wasn't arrested earlier. He was away at the neighbor's house having sex when Hank's team busted his lab... Walt has put Jessie in much more danger, but Jessie wasn't living a life without bad risks before Walt teamed up with him.
@kyuujinreacts5 жыл бұрын
Ooh I agree!! His choices led him down that road to begin with (the more we advance in the show though and the more I think prison might not have been the worst that could happen to him D:)

Last episode when you started going on about how you felt for Jesse, and how you really didn't like seeing bad things happening to him, well, no two ways about it, this was going to be a rough one for you. You didn't show any of or talk about the Cold Open this time. Those recurring Black & White cold opens this season are foreshadowing something that will eventually be revealed. Also, you're very right, this episode is called "Down" for a reason. For a couple of different reasons, in fact.
