Kaka on this one he is not lying. The first time I agree with him. I went to UoN in 1984-87, Ruto joined UoN in 1987. He was in Chiromo 1987 when I was in my 3rd year BSc. I got scholarship for 3 years tuition but for accommodations we got 13000 per year. When I finished I owed 46000 shillings loan. I did master at Chiromo which I finished in 1990 and left for the USA to do a citrate. In 1997 wanting to change my visa in the USA I was asked to get a letter from Kenya Government saying they have no objection for me doing so. The question asked me by the Kenya Government was, “did you ever have loan when attending UoN?” If yes, please bring a certificate of payment from help before the government can issue the letter I requested. I paid 55k to settle my loan. So, just know the loans we had were for accommodation and they were eventually transferred to HeLB after it was established.

@@4custaywithme I cannot proof WSR’s loan, but I can only speak of my reality which is as explained above. I paid my loans in 1997 and paid them in full to HELB despite that body having only created a few years earlier. In the 1980s we signed for the bursaries and loan at the same time during registration at the start of the academic year. The loans were disbursed partly to USAB (University Student Accommodation Board) and the remainder given directly to students in what used to be called Boom. It was never free money but a loan, however it was the best equalizer. Poor or rich it helped students but normal human beings instead of paupers.

During boom days - (loan) before Helb - university students used to get free food and free accommodation and free tuition - at the university & the meals from breakfast, lunch and dinner it was buffet menu - the boom was ya kujienjoy pocket money 😅

1980s we had a bonding component were graduates were to work on subsidized salary of Ksh4,800. 1995 the HELB loan component kicked in to replace the bonding component The new Universities funding model is replacing the HELB loan with the family household component...

The loans were there but there was also BOOM. The parents paid nothing. You just walked 5:54 to the registration desk. Got yourself a room and used the BOOM for books, self upkeep and entertainment. The loans came though National Bank. Apparently for the first time in his life he is not lying but he got the facility wrong.

Fee was introduced for the 1st time in 1990 and it sparked massive campus riots across the country. You know how much that was? 6k... then they introduced the PAYE( Pay As You Eat) system where students could only access meals after paying. I even recall my uncle attended Asumbi Teacher's College in the early 80s and he didn't pay a coin for the period he was training as a P1 teacher. Got it? ...so Ruto is a freaking liar...got it?
