xEazy420 Personally, I wouldn't have this scene any other way. Jesse gives Walter an honest smile. Not one that's over the top or goofy; but a smile that ensures an everlasting friendship and that everything will be okay. Think of it this way... Hank said it himself when they were determining who killed Gale. Steve asked if he could see Jesse as a killer... Hank said that would be a surprise. But I believe Jesse killed Gale because the first time since he was kicked out of his house, he actually had someone caring about him. All that time, he didn't want to lose the only person that cared. Even if it meant doing the unthinkable to save said person.

When words can't express all the conflicted feelings coming up, these nods were more powerful than any word. Walt finally let Jesse go free, he's not claiming ownership on him anymore, he knows that saving doesn't make reparation, but in the same time Jesse didn't bring himself to kill him, which was also a beautifool demnonstration of him finally making his own choices. Jesse expressing full forgiveness would have been a betrayal to Jane, Brock, Andrea, Mike, etc. But for that final moment, all that toxicity spoiling their relation had gone, all the darkest lies were out since long, there was no more secret between them. Allowing them to find what remained of genuine in their broken bond. Jesse was his own man, Walt wasn't using him anymore, even admiting to Jesse that asking him to kill him was his own wanted script. And it was not Jesse's script. After all the shit between them, they were at least able to admit withouth a word, that they mattered to each other. Jesse waiting for the last good by, was kind of unhoped, a gift rewarding this genuine moment between them. And Walt was able to show "the special love he had for him" in that moment, giving a caring glance at him, the nod was telling "go, I wish you the best" with a point of "why did it have to to turn to shit this much". And Jesse who made only sad smile he could give, was aknowledging the feeling too, giving a broken goodbye to M.White, feeling a mix of relief and pain. That was the end, the perfect end. These two.

The unspoken word exchange was brilliant for these two. The glance was the realisation that without the other, neither would have survived. It was a glance of appreciation or respect or perhaps some type of love. View it how you may, that's probably what the director wanted his audience to do. Predict what sort of relationship they had. It was a crazy one, that's all I can say. But I do believe Walt loved Jesse - people say he loved him like a son, but I wouldn't say a son. That's the thing about their relationship, you can't compare it to existing relationships. They weren't friends, enemies or just business partners. There's something quite deeper there. Something external. Jesse and Walt created a relationship of their own, twisted with love and hatred, pain and ease. It's a twisted one, but not a common one.

It was actually a father/son kind of relationship. Jesse always felt distant and unappreciated by his parents (who threw all their attention on Jesse's little brother) Jesse felt jealous, he felt that his parents did not love him nor believe in him. But Walter on the other hand did, he saw Jesse's potential, he respected him, made him feel valued and for at many situations was very protective of him. This all made Jesse to grow love towards Walt, that's why even after all the shit that Walt made him go through, he still continued to try and please Walt. In one scene where Jesse refuses to listen to Walt's demand. Walt simply just hugs Jesse and Jesse bursts in tears, I thought that was one of the most powerful scenes in the show. When Jesse was about to shoot Walt, he notices the gunshot on Walt's side and realizes that Walt, once again risked his own life to protect Jesse from the gunshot.
@hatiahbegum56598 жыл бұрын
It kinds of reminds me of Arya and the Hound in Game of Thrones. If you haven't watched past season 4, don't read on for spoilers. This scene between Jesse and Walt mirrors the scene between Arya and the Hound because both Walt and the Hound are dying, and the only solace they can find is to have their counterpart kill them quick. Neither Jesse or Arya fulfill their desires, but in the end Jesse still cared for Walt as Arya cared for the Hound (she removed him from her list). Perhaps they left them in hope that the other would find a way to survive. Perhaps Arya and Jesse liked the idea of being ignorant of the dead, by clinging onto a little ray of hope that they might still be out there, not dead. The ambiguity of it all kind of presents their love-hate relationship, it's really open for interpretation. No one will ever know what the relationship was or meant to them. But I do agree, father/son is definitely an almost certain type of adoration Walt and Jesse had.

Such a perfect ending to a perfect show.

I think in this scene Walter was not Heisenberg anymore. The change back happened after he saw that TV broadcast about Gray Matter, where Gretchen said that Heisenberg was not the Walter everyone knew and loved (or something among those lines). Walter realized what he had become, and did everything he could to fix the damage he had caused, fully understanding that he was the bad guy: >Donating his reamining money to his family via Gray Matter, since he understood that his family hated him too much to accept a direct offer from him >Giving the coordinates for Hank's body >Telling Skyler that he did all the bad things for himself (might actually be a lie, since by saying this he knew that Skyler wouldn't miss him nearly as much when he's gone.) >This scene >This fucking scene Walter offered Jesse the chance to kill him, since he understood that he had caused unbearable suffering to the only person who could be considered his true friend. He wanted to offer Jesse the only thing he could to make up for his actions: the chance to kill a man who had ruined his life. Even at this point, Jesse did not kill Walter, even when he knew the truth about Jane's fate. Even after seeing Andrea die, Jesse was unable to kill his former partner. Out of respect he still had, or because he knew that shooting Walter would be the "easiest way out" for him? I don't know. This is the most powerful scene in the whole series for me.

+Liiba Laaba I can't say I'm fully on board with this. Walter White does not go into a neo-Nazi compound with an M-40 in his trunk rigged to kill the entire gang. That's very much a Heisenberg thing. Threatening the very lives of Gretchen and Eliot, even if the threat was empty, was a Heisenberg thing. Poisoning Lydia was a Heisenberg thing. I highly doubt that the frustrated, dumpy chem teacher named Walter White would do these things. The scene where Eliot writes off White's contribution to Grey Matter is, I think, almost the reverse of what you describe. Walter White is almost prepared to give himself up and face jail. He's giving up on life at this point, which is pretty much what Walter White did when he bailed out of Grey Matter and found that he had to sacrifice his personal goals to keep his son's physical therapy going. Then, when Eliot lies about him on TV, the theme music to the show comes up, as does the prideful, contemptuous scowl, and he is Heisenberg again. One of the essential differences between White and Heisenberg is that White gives up; Heisenberg does not. Heisenberg does crazy crap like call the police on a traceable phone and just not be there when they show up. The difference is that Walter was, more or less, in control of Heisenberg for the last go round. He had, in fact, learned something from his mistakes; this was made clear in his confession to his wife, "I did it for me."; he was then being honest for the first time with his wife and with himself. He accepts that he deserves the hatred of his wife and son, but goes about to do what he can to set that right by blackmailing the Schwartzes. One of the most delicious ironies of the program is that Walt's ego-fueld rage begins with his resentment against Eliot for his not acknowledging him, and it ends with his voluntarily ceding credit to Eliot for Flynn's inheritance. If anything, Walter and Heisenberg, at the very end, seemed to have achieved a synthesis; they became a unified, coherent person (and it should not pass without mention that this occurs when he has yet a third identity: Mr. Lambert). It is very important that Lambert shot Uncle Jack without caring a bit for the money he was hiding. Heisenberg would have never done that; he came undone from overweening greed as much as pride. Lambert understands this, and finally lets the money go; he understands also that it's too late. And he finally resolved his chaotic relationship with Jesse, understands that he wronged him monstrously. Heisenberg was also undone by a tendency towards irrational and uncontrollable rage. In his rage he would lose his perspective, do and say things that he would later regret, like killing Jesse and Mike. Lambert has resolved this rage problem. He sees himself and Jesse in the big picture: two partners in crime, who did horrible things, but who had also been to hell and back together. It was this acknowledgment that gave such poignancy to that ending. Walt setting things right, Walt facing the truth about himself and his work, and the small dose of redemption that came with that, was what ultimately made this a 'happy' ending. Walt's death is of no significance; that was set in stone from the opening scenes of the series. Walt's crimes do not go unpunished. Not only does he die prematurely, but he loses the love of his family and dies alone, in disgrace. But in his last days, he strives to turn Heisenberg into a force for good, and he succeeds. It was perfect.

@abrahamlincoln62119 жыл бұрын
Michael Heard No, actually the reason why Jesse didn't shoot Walt, is because he realized that Walter had been fatally wounded from a bullet. You can see that Jesse notices the wound when he looks at Walter's stomach, and then he subsequently lowers the gun. He was going to kill Walt and grant him his death wish as a form of "thank you" for freeing me, but he didn't want to do it, evidenced by when he said "say you want this!", because Jesse couldn't bring himself to kill Walt unless Walter wanted it (which is why this scene is so fucking sad). But once Jesse noticed the fatal wound, he realized that Walter would get his death wish, and Jesse could avoid killing Walt and not have to add that to the many things he'll have to live with for the rest of his life. This scene (and the entire series) took the bar for "good television" and absolutely shattered it. I don't know if I want anything better to come out. This scene still makes me cry just thinking about it!!!!

@TTFMjock8 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Ridosko Walt loved Jesse, but he also manipulated him and allowed those close to him to die, to control him. He also loved his family, but relentlessly lied to them and manipulated them. Walt did much of this out of desperation, but much of it was pure calculation; he simply thought that he could do whatever the hell he wanted, he had no real respect for other people, including his family, and acknowledged almost no hard limits on his behavior to others. He was monstrously greedy, monstrously arrogant, resentful, angry, and entitled. He thought he could just make the rules for himself (and everyone else) as he went along. A lot of this was just extreme narcissism. He told himself that he was doing what he was doing for others, and he had to keep reinforcing that story for himself. He had to make himself believe it, so the one thing he couldn't do was what so many who supposedly does things 'for others' curiously forget to do: ask these others if they want or need his services. The resounding no he would have heard would have crushed his rationalizations. In real life, people who behave this way, and there are loads of them, end up hurting their families in much less cinematic ways. Their kids just get killed in the crossfire one day, or held hostage. But there was a core of humanity to Walt that he never truly lost. He did care for his family in spite of all this, but he cared in such a selfish way that it all ended in a massive tragedy.

What a complicated relationship they had, by far the best tv series I have ever watched. There was definitely a few different reasons why Jesse choose not to kill Walt, mainly because I think deep down Jesse loved him as a father but also because Jesse thinks Walt had always kept him alive because he needed to use him for his own gains. In the end Walt shielded him and took the bullet for Jesse even though he had no use for him anymore and Jesse realised it was out of genuine love for him. Also Jesse is not a killer and every time you see Jesse kill someone in the series he is racked with guilt and destroys a small part of Jesse as a person. On the other hand Walt spares Jesse as one final act of kindness to Jesse and redemption for himself. He realises he has become a monster and destroyed the only person who has shown him undying loyalty and respect. Giving Jesse the opportunity to kill Walt is the ultimate sacrifice he can make to ensure Jesse has his vengeance. "I am the one who knocks"

I love how throughout Breaking Bad and El Camino there are literally so many glimpses of Jesse seeming to truly care about Walt. and then you see it with Walter too; some comments say Jesse was like a son to Walt, which seemingly is true because he trained Jesse in chemistry as a cook and it's almost like a father teaching his kid something. Walt commits some terrible acts, but he did it all to protect himself, selfishly; but it also shows that he wants Jesse to be on his side no matter what. thats why he had Jesse off Gale and Walter killed Gus, or early on when those gangbangers killed the child Tomas, whom was related to Andrea. Walt Ran those guys over to protect Jesse. Despite everything. they had each others back. like a father and son should. beautiful television show alongside with Better Call Saul

Personally, I wouldn't have this scene any other way.
