I also liked the reflection of Mike's grievances and analysis of Walt because of his overall stupidity and delusion that he could accomplish anything. You remember, right? The scene where Walt is being chewed out by Mike when he delivers him his money just before Mike tries to lam it? Mike points out Walt's inherent arrogance and nativity in his actions, as well the conceit that everything can go his way because of the empire Walt built. Hank honors this same criticism and heartbreaking realization to Walt trying to reason with Jack for Hank's life when he delivers the line, "You're the smartest man I ever met, and you're too stupid to see, he made up his mind 5 minutes ago". I loved this show because it depicted the perfect tragic downfall of a man with enough intellect to achieve more than most people, but becomes consumed and eventually taken by that same level of thought. It's no happy ending in this episode, and Walt practically loses everything he's worked, suffered and caused others to suffer for. Fantastic show, and what fantastic writers.

@ghani6666 жыл бұрын
George Parkinson To at least half of SW fans, he nailed that world as well. To me, Breaking Bad is so amazing because of its complex symbolism, metaphors, character depth and refusal to adhere to convention. Granted, that's not what Star Wars is known for, but having a dose of that after almost thirty years of bullshit was truly refreshing. I was worried we'd never see a Star Wars movie for adults ever again. TLJ (for all its faults) succeeds for the same reasons that Breaking Bad succeeds: it treats the material (and the audience) like adults. Which means the most Rian Johnson is guilty of is overestimating the SW fandom.

I remember the first time that I had watched Breaking Bad last year. When I got to the scene where Walter and Skyler fight over the knife and Walter leaves the house with Holly, I had a very intense panic attack watching it and I was left numb after it for about an hour. The reason why I had the panic attack to begin with is because I had pictured my mother and father as Skyler and Walter respectively. I don't know how they had popped into my head watching the scene, but they did, and when they did, I was sucked in and I could not get out. The only conclusion I can come to from that panic attack is that the acting in that scene was so raw, and Bryan Cranston and Anna Gunn had showcased a series of mixed emotions when they were filming it, that it felt too real for me to call it acting. If I had watched that scene first and knew nothing about Breaking Bad, then chances are that I wouldn't have been drawn to it at all, I would have watched something else entirely. But at that point, I knew the characters well enough, and I knew about the disgusting stuff that Walter had done at that point, so I was sucked in and I kept going deeper and deeper. Too deep for my own comfort to be honest.

The episode is the culmination of everything the series was leading towards. Everything in Walt's world falls apart and it is incredibly tragic but also so satisfying. The direction and acting is particularly top-notch in the episode, and no time is wasted. Everything from the two phone calls made at the beginning and end of the episode done in brilliant fashion, to the incredible final moments of Hank, to the family being figuratively destroyed for good.
